acualy most beginer coppters are harder them coaxal since microcoppter will gernaly take off in one direction since thiers no coaxal adjustment and most of the time you wase most the batter fixxind the trim and just end up going around in a circle where a coaxl heli wont just spiral unconrolable and the user has no troble as long as it stays in houver
Nice Vid BUT You seem to knock regular flying Rc heli's as far as how they handle in a crash....Yes they will break when crashed however you said thr Quad on fell from 7 ft...& only minor danage.........If that thing fell from 35-40 ft....guaranteed you'd have as much damage as the heli's.......Please post Vid after 50 flights.I'd love to see the condition of how this thing really holds up...Thanks Rob-
Great vid and good job on the canopy.. your vids encouraged me to build a 450 heli over a year ago.. now I have 12 of them... This video now makes me want to try a Quad.. Keep up the great work!.
The canopy attachment is a really great idea. I also have a lot of difficulty with vehicle orientation when it gets a distance from me. What is your opinion on the Feytech Fy-91Q controller? I have one but it seems like it doesn't have nearly the capabilities of the quadrino.
Hey Will. Got a quick question. My whitespy quad the rear left motor goes full speed all the time every time I power up. That would be a defective speed control right. Or is there an adjustment that I must make.
@fofunable Sounds like it but I'm no expert on these particular ESC's. Best would be to just send an email to hoverthings and ask. Did this start to happen after a crash?
@MikeysRC Hey Will, Thanks for the quick reply. Luckily it did not happen after a crash. I noticed during my last flight that it started to flutter a little bit. After putting another battery in it, the one motor on the left rear just goes full speed all the time even with just a little throttle. I tried calling and emailing hoverthings, but they do not respond. Not sure what to do.
@fofunable Hmmm bummer. Well if you get no response in a couple days maybe send a request for a replacement ESC. Since you want them to all be matched you prob want to get it from hoverthings. Unfortunately sometimes electronics just go bad. If you tell them you want to buy a spare ESC you might get a quicker response.
Hey! Those are our birds he's talking about! Cool! If you want to see quads flying over burning buildings, sprint boat races and other sundry mayhem, check us out!
Set it up correct next time because i think you will find that the orange nose ball indicates the FRONT of the aircraft and you have placed your heli canopy on its tail
which explains to me why you were using back elevator control to fly this quad forward hmmm
puzzeling. nice quad though no stock left am waiting for fresh stock will order straight away.
@MandurahRC Yes I'm aware of how OTHER people place the ball. My methods often differ from the conventional. It's a habit of mine to think outside the box. I find it easier to fly with a larger shape in the front of my quad. Weird that it looked like I was using back elevator to fly forward as the easy to see helicopter canopy is mounted on the front of the quad.
Is there any way to fly that thing in real time, by using an extra onboard camera as a viewfinder/extra pair of eyes, so that you can see exactly where you're going, and yet be able to watch what you're filming, with the GoPro camera?
That would add a whole new dimension, to filming...
Mikey, if you're so awsome, pulls some moves with this thing!! Hovering is chill but do a bank around yourself. Drop some altitude into a strong forward acceleration. No guts no glory bra.
Who gets an F-22 just to do flow flying passes....nobody who knows what they;re doing
one thing I'm concerned about is putting Go Pro on there and how to get blades and head of copter outa shot with it still flying good- I really appreciate your vid and would like to know how to set up FPV or what is needed in all
Hey Will, I have a question for you. I bought the 450 quad (whitspy) and I am not sure that the auto gyro is working properly. Am I supposed to set up the radio a specific way for that to work, and if so, can you tell me what settings you have changed on the radio and what those setting are. I have the DX-6 i radio. My disc that the company sent me does not work with my computer. Appreciate the help. John (Fofunable)
That is awesome. I will definitely have to get that for my kids because the RC plane I originally tried with did a nose dive into pieces... This is way easier for us beginners. Where did you get a canopy from? Great video. Thanks.
@KarlBrkr Hi. The canopy was from an old heli I had lying around. It's just a typical 450 size canopy. While the quadcopter is very stable is't not necessarily good for beginners. I'd recommend practicing with a 4 channel coaxial OR fixed pitch helicopter first.
@MikeysRC My 8 year old son already flies that smaller Mini RC yellow Copters that are 6" long for over a year inside the house. He is very good at it and can hover and fly around the room with no crashes.... So I'm thinking he is probably good for this larger model for outside.

@MikeysRC Hey Mike, Please ceck the video of this guy " Beautiful HD FPV - "Reflections"" . I fallow his contruction moddel, only that I' buy a KKopter board control , before this guy start to sell it.

Btw....before to fly this, I' tried to buil one of Your plane. Have a nice Christmas .
Great video. I tried to watch it on my iPhone in Mexico but the wireless was too slow. I've been waiting for someone to recommend a good quad. I was glad to get home so I could watch your video. I totally dig the BNF concept for this quad because I've got too many plane builds on the go. For FPV, would a move up to their 550 size be smart? Also, I wonder if they would do a 550 size BNF version? In any event, your channel and website rocks. Merry Christmas!
@rgthd007 I asked them the same question about the 550 and if I remember corectly id doens't matter too much they fly pretty similarly. I'm planning on using the 450 for FPV too. I'm sure it's plenty capable.
@MikeysRC Thanks for replying. For FPV, I would have thought bigger is better. If they did the 550 as a BNF I'd jump on it. Thanks again, keep up the great "work".
Hey Will. Love the vid. I ordered one and I'm waiting to get it. How many channels does the receiver have on it. Can't wait for your new videos on this neat little bird.
@starcraftluver62 Who said $700. It's like $450. If you were looking on their website and saw $700 that might be the one they sell with a SPEKTRUM TX. If you don't want thTX just email them and tell them you already have your own transmitter.
Dude you are awesome!!! I was just watching videos on this copter when I saw one of your comments on the manufactures channel. I immediately came here and your videos are AWESOME answered all my questions. Thank you for you help.
One more thing, watch the price on the various controller boards. Over the past year the prices have been dropping almost as fast as Obama's approval rating.
FWIW...I think $450 is a little steep too. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but for me, I like the build part of this hobby. You can build your own for a lot less than $450...probably won't be as slick as this one...and probably won't last too long either as it definitely won't "work right out of the box"...lol. If you need something to work right out of the box, I suppose you'll have to pay for it.
I've never flown a quad but I've built 3 tricopters (using a KK board and OpenPilot CC board). I don't know why I'm drawn to tri's rather than quads. Maybe I'll build a quad next. Thanks for the vid!
Why leave negative comments on peoples videos. If you dont like what they are doing then dont watch them. Keep up the good work Will. Looking forward to the next Mikeys RC project.
Mikey: What is the Payload of this particular quad copter? I am asking because when you put the transmitter/FPV camera/ Gopro and etc it add some weight, also can you put bigger lipos for longer times?
@wwmilanl As I showed later in this video. I had two 2200mah bats at about 190 grams each and about 160 more grams of camera equip on it. So with two 2200mah bats, and 160-200 more grams of weight you should still be able to get about 7-8 min flight and not be gettign close to lipo cut off. If you flew more agressivly that time might be less.
@SvenOkonomi If you don't like my vids then why do you watch them and take the time to leave negative comments?? O, maybe it's to stroke your own ego I guess. I'm not sponsored by hoverthings.
Mike, nice to see you've discovered quads. This Hoverthings one is nice, I2C,and multi-wii compatible. I built mine using Arducopter board, with a scratch built frame. You know I discovered that you can just balance an object in the middle without any velcro or glue, and the quad actually automatically balances it. Check out my video, when you get a chance:
I'm interested in opinions as to why quadcopters don't scale up to a size where they could carry a man. Or perhaps they do, and I just haven't heard about it.
@NOLAMarathon2010 People are attempting to carry people. The problems needed to be solved are battery life, getting counter and clockwise propellers in the size that you need. Also when the mass starts to increase, the use of motor torque to control yaw, reduces in effectiveness. But I'd say battery life is the major obstacle to practical human lifting, beyond just prototypes.
@honda125 COOL! I hope to get the set up video out maaaaayyybe late next week. But they do send you a DVD-ROM with video instructions, PDF manuals and more. But you can also set up a time to call my phone for more help. My number is listed on my website contact page.
@pstarxxx78 I think 5-7 biz days.....can't remember for sure but I got the standard shipping from them. I hope to do the set up vide soon but they do send you a DVD-ROM with videos and PDF manuals.
There was a company called decent devial that made brushless Carbon fiber co-axails that were designed for outside flying only. They had to have advanced gyro's to help them fight the wind though.....
Your paying for more than just a quadcopter and you act like they are all the same. If you want a 200 dollar quad, then go get some aluminum, a kk board, and cheap shit youll have it for yourself. If you want a nice quad with a nice controller, good components and Bind N Fly then your going to pay for it. Thats life bud, this is an excellent quad.
Yes, Quadcopters are the way to go. I´ve flown (built) a dozen of diferent Multicopters with different Controling Boards like HK, KK, FlyCam, Fytech but this one compared to it´s price seemes a great deal. Ordered on to build it first in my Y3 Copter and then in my X-Quad.
Than we see how good it performes.
The Keida Motors are not always good quality, order 6 if you need 4. But when you are lucky they are a good deal.
I have this frame, (Not the FC) and can attest to its near indestructibility and I love it so much I bought 2 more, hoverthings is a great place to get gear, and you can now get that gear in Canada too at a place called flitelab dot com!
Switching to quadcopter was the best thing ive ever done on FPV. But 450 dollars? You must be absolutely out of your mind. No offense, but you got scammed. Something 200 dollars worth would already be enough for FPV, but for 300 you can make one that out preforms this thing in every possible way. But apparently it sells for 450, maybe I should get into the business of slapping cheap hobbyking bits together as well and make a mint off of you. ;)
@SvenOkonomi "Scapped"...shesh dude,...shop around a little. Get some facts before you make a statement like that. I'd bet some good money thats this quad would blow a KK board quad out of the water for stability and other features. Dunno what you are talking about Go check out the tech. specs for this board. Like I said in the video this quad is bind and fly. I dont' have to do ANY assemply, soldering, programing, yada yada yada. I wanted a qualty product and that's what I got.
@SvenOkonomi Slapping together cheap hobbyking parts and comparing it to the quad I got is like comparing a grade schooler to a college student. WOW someone sure left a big negative comment on your profile. I wonder what you said that made them upset? Funny, I haven't seen a comment form you for a looooong time on my vids and then you post a negative one. If memory serves me the last one you left was negative too. A trend perhaps?
I'd love to see what you get when you mount the camera in a way that DOESN"T show any part of the craft. That's what we filmmakers need. We need a stable platform that can get footage with no jello in the image.
Very cool. What battery and how long are the flight times? What camera are you using? What receiver is it? Can I bind it to a dx8? Impressive! I've been looking for a good quad that wasnt a million dollars.
@jon780 On one 2200mah 3 cell about 7-8 min of hover. WIth the 2 2200mah 3 cells in parallel AND my HD camera mounted on it I still flew for about 8 min and the bats were at 11.5V so maybe I hand another minuet.
The frame is probably one of the best out there. Sturdy and now is available with other style plates that make FPV even easier. They are actually easy to put together if you want to save money. Just buy your frame from Hoverthings. Tom is one of the best persons in the business that truely cares about his customers. You can order the board from him also or use a different board. KK, CC etc. several out there. Read the threads and you'll get suggestions for motors.
Great video Will and i'm looking forward to watching the set-up video to the quad copter to see whats involved ;-) i went to that website last time you mentioned them and they were out of stock then and again today but i did see what you said to another one of your subscribers,so when i'm ready to look at buying one in the new year i'll just shoot them an email if there out of stock,so thanks for sharing mate. thumbs up.
Crap. I thought the future of FPV was special co-axails. They too can go straight up, hover and go froward/spin around. They are also a LOT cheaper. I guess the forward flight isn't fast enough plus it can't do accrobatics, but as for FPV, and shooting video of something, CO-axail is more stable.
@flyingphoenix113 Just try to fly any size "beginner" coaxial heli in the wind and you wills ee how your idea won't fly (pun intneded).A quad CAN actually do fast forward flight where a beginner coaxial can not. Quad copter for the win =). A quad copter will also be more stable.
@honda125 hello. thank you for your interest. Frames are getting made now, and the quads are getting built and tested this weekend. we will be in stock very soon. you can also use the " contact us" to pre-order if you are interested
I understand the awesomeness of quadcopters for FPV, but just my opinion, they are only fun to the person flying them.. they are not fun to watch. I'll be waiting for more custom foamboard builds :) Not trying to be a downer though, I love the show!
Hey mikey! i know this is about quads but i wanted to kow something, is the 40 dollar Mini 4 ch heli from xheli's worth getting to start out with? i have flown 450's but never really got to the point of getting the sycklic stick down. I can hover it and get it to move but never did that, what do you think on thos?
This has been flagged as spam show
acualy most beginer coppters are harder them coaxal since microcoppter will gernaly take off in one direction since thiers no coaxal adjustment and most of the time you wase most the batter fixxind the trim and just end up going around in a circle where a coaxl heli wont just spiral unconrolable and the user has no troble as long as it stays in houver

@SvenOkonomi If you don't like my vids then why do you watch them and take the time to leave negative comments?? O, maybe it's to stroke your own ego I guess. I'm not sponsored by hoverthings.
MikeysRC 2 months ago
Mike, nice to see you've discovered quads. This Hoverthings one is nice, I2C,and multi-wii compatible. I built mine using Arducopter board, with a scratch built frame. You know I discovered that you can just balance an object in the middle without any velcro or glue, and the quad actually automatically balances it. Check out my video, when you get a chance:

I'm interested in opinions as to why quadcopters don't scale up to a size where they could carry a man. Or perhaps they do, and I just haven't heard about it.
NOLAMarathon2010 2 months ago
@NOLAMarathon2010 Yeah, actaully a team in Germany just did that!
MikeysRC 2 months ago
@NOLAMarathon2010 People are attempting to carry people. The problems needed to be solved are battery life, getting counter and clockwise propellers in the size that you need. Also when the mass starts to increase, the use of motor torque to control yaw, reduces in effectiveness. But I'd say battery life is the major obstacle to practical human lifting, beyond just prototypes.

There was a company called decent devial that made brushless Carbon fiber co-axails that were designed for outside flying only. They had to have advanced gyro's to help them fight the wind though.....
flyingphoenix113 2 months ago
Your paying for more than just a quadcopter and you act like they are all the same. If you want a 200 dollar quad, then go get some aluminum, a kk board, and cheap shit youll have it for yourself. If you want a nice quad with a nice controller, good components and Bind N Fly then your going to pay for it. Thats life bud, this is an excellent quad.
iFlyFPV 2 months ago

But apparently it sells for 450, maybe I should get into the business of slapping cheap hobbyking bits together as well and make a mint off of you. ;)
SvenOkonomi 2 months ago
@SvenOkonomi "Scapped"...shesh dude,...shop around a little. Get some facts before you make a statement like that. I'd bet some good money thats this quad would blow a KK board quad out of the water for stability and other features. Dunno what you are talking about Go check out the tech. specs for this board. Like I said in the video this quad is bind and fly. I dont' have to do ANY assemply, soldering, programing, yada yada yada. I wanted a qualty product and that's what I got.
MikeysRC 2 months ago
@SvenOkonomi Slapping together cheap hobbyking parts and comparing it to the quad I got is like comparing a grade schooler to a college student. WOW someone sure left a big negative comment on your profile. I wonder what you said that made them upset? Funny, I haven't seen a comment form you for a looooong time on my vids and then you post a negative one. If memory serves me the last one you left was negative too. A trend perhaps?

I'd love to see what you get when you mount the camera in a way that DOESN"T show any part of the craft. That's what we filmmakers need. We need a stable platform that can get footage with no jello in the image.

after a coaxial heli what do you think would be next before this? i dont want to spend a tone but something easy to fly
RCcrAzY1234 2 months ago
Nice review. The Hoverthings frames and Quadrino board are a great setup. We are selling these now in Canada at flitelab.com
schooner2000 2 months ago
Very cool. What battery and how long are the flight times? What camera are you using? What receiver is it? Can I bind it to a dx8? Impressive! I've been looking for a good quad that wasnt a million dollars.
jon780 2 months ago
@jon780 On one 2200mah 3 cell about 7-8 min of hover. WIth the 2 2200mah 3 cells in parallel AND my HD camera mounted on it I still flew for about 8 min and the bats were at 11.5V so maybe I hand another minuet.
MikeysRC 2 months ago
The frame is probably one of the best out there. Sturdy and now is available with other style plates that make FPV even easier. They are actually easy to put together if you want to save money. Just buy your frame from Hoverthings. Tom is one of the best persons in the business that truely cares about his customers. You can order the board from him also or use a different board. KK, CC etc. several out there. Read the threads and you'll get suggestions for motors.

Great video Will and i'm looking forward to watching the set-up video to the quad copter to see whats involved ;-) i went to that website last time you mentioned them and they were out of stock then and again today but i did see what you said to another one of your subscribers,so when i'm ready to look at buying one in the new year i'll just shoot them an email if there out of stock,so thanks for sharing mate. thumbs up.
startazz 2 months ago
Crap. I thought the future of FPV was special co-axails. They too can go straight up, hover and go froward/spin around. They are also a LOT cheaper. I guess the forward flight isn't fast enough plus it can't do accrobatics, but as for FPV, and shooting video of something, CO-axail is more stable.
flyingphoenix113 2 months ago
@flyingphoenix113 Just try to fly any size "beginner" coaxial heli in the wind and you wills ee how your idea won't fly (pun intneded).A quad CAN actually do fast forward flight where a beginner coaxial can not. Quad copter for the win =). A quad copter will also be more stable.

alexedit1 2 months ago
@alexedit1 about 8 -9 min. but I lso had about 130 frams of extra camera equip on there too. and 90% of the flight was just hovering.

I understand the awesomeness of quadcopters for FPV, but just my opinion, they are only fun to the person flying them.. they are not fun to watch. I'll be waiting for more custom foamboard builds :) Not trying to be a downer though, I love the show!

@steveshlacker Thanks, no worries I have many more scratch build ideas in the works.

Hey mikey! i know this is about quads but i wanted to kow something, is the 40 dollar Mini 4 ch heli from xheli's worth getting to start out with? i have flown 450's but never really got to the point of getting the sycklic stick down. I can hover it and get it to move but never did that, what do you think on thos?
