I was given his book by a friend of mine, and have read most of it at this point. To say that it's a wake up call for liberals is a reach. I do agree with him in that modern republicans are not true conservatives, however he writes in the same style as one would interpret the bible. He likes to pick and choose events in the past to fit his needs and leaves out part of history that shows conservatism to be weak. In other words, you get a conservative's point of view.

In Jon 2:13 Jesus felt so strongly that the temple should be used as "a house of prayer" and not be involved in material matters at all (even though the livestock was being sold for religious sacrifice and the money changers were there so foreigners could pay the temple tax), he resorted to physical violence. This is the only recorded incident of Jesus using physical violence. Again, he separates church & state!

I was given his book by a friend of mine, and have read most of it at this point. To say that it's a wake up call for liberals is a reach. I do agree with him in that modern republicans are not true conservatives, however he writes in the same style as one would interpret the bible. He likes to pick and choose events in the past to fit his needs and leaves out part of history that shows conservatism to be weak. In other words, you get a conservative's point of view.

To go on, I only read most of his book as a promise to a friend, a friend who keeps trying to convince me that I 'haven't seen the light". After reading it, I still haven't seen the light that he is refering to, only self serving opinions of the other side. It was a good way to get to sleep at night though.....yawn.

It's nuts like you who want to enforce YOUR beliefs. Jesus was clearly in favor of separation of church & state. Few things in the Bible are more certain. His teaching was spiritual & he had no interest in this world. His disinterest in the governments of this world the world itself is profound. Read John 2:1316. Matthew 22:1922 Examples

@lthom33 What in the world are you talking about? Neither of the two scriptures pertain to anything You stated. Jon 2:13 talks about the actual business dealings inside the church being blasphemous. I have no idea how Matthew 22:19-22 paying taxes to Caeser has anything to do with "church and state". Kind of vague, don't you think? Stop trying to get Scripture off the internet, buy yourself a Bible and READ IT!

@inkydinkydooky It's not my fault you think you know what you're talking about. In Jon 2:13 Jesus felt so strongly that the temple should be used as "a house of prayer" and not be involved in material matters at all (even though the livestock was being sold for religious sacrifice and the money changers were there so foreigners could pay the temple tax), he resorted to physical violence. This is the only recorded incident of Jesus using physical violence. Again, he separates church & state!

To answer THIS question, I think a Christian is someone who accepts Jesus as their personal savior. However there's much more to it than just that. Christians grow everyday. We learn to forgive people. To help people who need it. To share and love those who have nothing. Health care reform is the right thing to do but you can't see that. I'm baffled

And although it is true there really isn't anything about the separation of church as state, there was allot about respecting others with differing opinions from yourself. And Jesus said "love thy enemy". Also you will find things about living with and attempting to understand other cultures. Your religion tells you to be kind and treat others as you wish to be treated, please remember that.

Jesus believed in a society where every individual cared for each other, and not being judgemental or deliberated on personal profit. He believed in a society where profit was not a system of existence, and preferred collective struggle and unilateral cooperation for every individual's welfare.

@inkydinkydooky I can state that Jesus' last commandment was "Love thy brothers as I have loved you." That means everyone including gays. It's easy to claim yourself to be Christian but you're suppose to discern evil men & you're not able to do that. It's a concern because you talk the talk but you clearly don't walk the walk. How can you claim to be a Christian but not know Jesus? I don't get that.
