It is great fun to drive but I got a really stiff back and knees from the awkward lean forward knees bend possition of driving on a raised track with a tender loco that I have never done before- this is the first tender loco I have ever driven!!!
those contain the springs that hold the safety valve closed, when the steam pressure is high enough to overcome the spring the safety valve opens to prevent the pressure getting any higher, there are two safety valves fitted, incase one should fail to open, there are adjusters above the springs/casings to preload/set the release pressure.hope that helps
I am terribly sorry, I though I had posted the answer about a week ago but obviously something went wrong! Thank you silver760, the two safety valves are set to go off at slighlty different pressures so that more steam is let out at the highjer pressure.

It looks almost too small to ride on! Very cool.

That looks like great fun! It must be great to know you have created something so like the real thing!

What are the two vertical tubes on either side of the pressure gauge? Where can I find more information on early steam locomotive?
