  • thats whats wrong with america:) chinese teaching english

  • nazi bastard

  • @whocares09100 hey you stupid i said it because he has problems with pronouncing the words.

  • This is one very "political" video. =p

  • please put subtitles in english

  • Your video is a favorite on Kuwait City

  • all the students there fail so hard at English ...

  • wow, I liked it...

  • better teach them to count and not how to pronounce the words they will never use in their life!

  • @kmg550 pronunciation is more important than the concept of counting.

  • phonetics for phonetics sake.

  • can you write all words please and thank you

  • great work....chini

  • where time line locates word of "mou ikkai"?

I want to know the time.

  • some students are clearly japanese since he said "mou ikkai", which means "again" in the language. Anyway, IMO when it comes to pronunciation, Asian speaking English is easier to reproduce for Asian.

  • I want to see the cartoon :/

  • British= /'moubail/

    American=/'moubl/

  • An awesome way to help integration and ease the burdens of those that just want a better life.

  • he looks very sweet

  • nice job thanks mit

  • This professor has the patience of Saint Job!!!!

  • Really old teaching method

  • Comment removed

  • you better read it yourself, read poems etc

then do association with the words

you will never learn this way, look how dificult he makes it look

    it supposed to be fun...

His bodylanguage is eratic, too. I prefer a hot woman speaking in my ears (english courses on pc)

  • But where I can find what is on board?

  • Good video and the teacher is very good !! handsome!

  • Wonderful. I'm so getting my English up .

  • good video!

  • Gotham - Got ham!

     LOL!

  • He's a good teacher,I like his manner to teach.

  • His efforts much appreciated but his accent has a lot to be desired. I hated the way I was first introduced to the language in a very similar way. Wish all the students here better luck.

  • good teacher and he is cute too, hahaha

  • Good teacher...pronunciation is not English pronunciation, it is very different!

  • just wondering how they have managed to go to MIT while they can't even read these words?

  • @rottentwapple ahahahahhaha so true. i think every engineer has pronunciation problems......

  • @rottentwapple i think these are probably like international students...

  • @rottentwapple amazing brain power. Excellent math and physics students. More than likely they were the top of the top of the top of their country. Their English may have a heavy accent and they may stress the wrongs places of a word, but give them a Calculus exercise or a Physics problem and the accent is totally irrelevant. That is MIT.

  • Generalization, hospitalize :P

  • sounds like some of these words are from brave new world.

  • I feel like I am in this class... I'm an MIT student!

  • GAODUM!!!

  • Excellent teaching, thank you for providing this. I will definitely be adding your videos to ESL Toronto to benefit all the students who visit. Thanks!

  • CC Closed would be very helpful for all of us "English as a foreign language'

  • @europeandrifter

American English, the dialect of English spoken in the United States. Different from, but just as valid as, British English, Canadian English, Australian English, and any other dialect out there.

  • @eeeemeeee It is except the metric system. I don't think anyone else uses Fahrenheit, Miles, Feet/Inches, etc. In Canada everything has F and Celsius on it, with F being the first. Most of our stuff is from Wal-Marts and stuff though so.. what was my point? Oh yeah, I'm not sure if it is entirely valid in the scientific community.

  • They need to download Pronunciation Patterns, a software based on phonics, to help them.

  • very good... class, teacher, excerises, and things of studying

  • I like your teaching style.

I find when teaching it's easier for the students to write down their questions then speaking them out to the class. I used to ask the students "are there any questions?" Always dead silence....

  • In my opinion his pronunciation is good

  • too much RRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • chinese and taiwanese are learning American accent english.........

  • @tenddyson... May be you want say: Chinese and Taiwanese are TEACHING English Accent.

I'm learning English, but my work don't leave me go to School, so I study with the Course Ingles sin Barreras, and this guy have a teach funny and however he talk very clear without American

  • Even ESL is great at MIT. Well I'm going to hell for finding this video entertaining

  • us accent

  • There's music in stresses..he should clap the words and repeat them at least three times..the learning here is rushed...also he should try clapping a few words and make the class listen and guess what the word is...

  • I'm a native speaker of American English and I think that this teacher is very good!

  • I like this video, he's a brilliant teacher. I'm really learning a lot, and might be able to speak the way he does in just one day.

  • People use the american pronounciation for teaching mainly because it is much clearer, and follows the spelling of the word a bit more. Not only that, but once you learn the american pronounciation, you can then go on to british pronounciation.

  • I couldn't understand half the things this guy said and I'm a native speaker...

  • @tabber87 I'm an English teacher, and I think he's a good teacher and so is his pronunciation. The thing is that his accent is different to yours. I teach Phonetics and Phonolgy, and the phonetic symbols he's using are a bit distorted, I woul day. But it's very good teaching, in my opinion.

  • @tabber87

I understand his English. I started taking ESL classes before enrolling full time in college level classes at an American university.

  • Very American accent.... Every word almost is mispronounced...

  • not b4d !

  • good job.

  • good

  • sorry, I mean loud and clear.

  • wow the teacher pronoun sso cloud and clear. great video

  • teach me some chinese!

  • Greate Job

  • thanks alot for the great cooperation

  • thanks for free lessons! your a great teacher. good job

  • why he is spening so much time explaining the definition of compound?

  • dish washing machine, what the hell was that?

  • BIG help for me..

    thanks a lot!

    GOD bless

    ur d man prof.

  • Lol.Why did the super heros living in Ny??

  • Lol.. He got mad =))

  • Thanks for MIT Institute

governor !!! God Bless you !!!

It is valuable for those who are learning English !!!

I am looking forward to those lessons regarding with English Speaking and intonation !!!!

  • Good pronounciation, I like it but Why can't i see words? I'd like to see.

  • @financement Fear that the copyrighted material might bite MIT in the ass.

  • He is very good teacher. How good pronouciation he has!

  • @Bright695 shame about your grammar and spelling. (just being testy sorry hah)

  • @Bright695 ... for a Yank maybe... but its English he is teaching... not American !

  • @europeandrifter However, he's teaching English at an American university. :) So he's supposed to be teaching American English. And that is how we correctly pronounce those words in American English!

If he was teaching at a British English at a British university, it would be different. ;)

  • @eeeemeeee American English... WTF ?

  • @Bright695 pronunciation ---- correct your spelling .....lol

  • mit eh?

  • Hello - I am studying the value of educational videos on youtube. It will be great if you could provide input via a very short survey (will take less than 2 min). You can find a link to the survey from my youtube profile. Thanks for your time.

  • Even English is taken to the next level at MIT.

  • @gemaldon can you say... money.. how about... narcissism?

  • Professor Yoo is Great man. He is a Hero...

  • good

  • How can I get the list of words in the beginning of the lecture? Thank you a millions...

  • Its kind of cool watching this if english is your first language. I never realized how hard some of the pronunciation actually is to a new speaker

  • good teacher

  • Great!

    Thank you so much!

  • Repeat-repetion

  • nice

  • it is great, I love this!

  • nice video! :)

can someone please help me?! how many syllables are in words ceremonies, created, palaces, ideas, usually, period, cultivated and purposes?

  • ce*re*mo*nies, cre*a*ted, pal*a*ces, i*de*as, u*sua*lly, per*i*od, cul*ti*va*ted, pur*pos*es ... I think thats right. If not, you can look it up in the dictionary.

  • while i was watching this great vedio, just in 3 minutes i felt like i'm in the clas, it was a great feeling, he's really a very great teacher.

  • how i wish i could join this class, its verry interristing i really want to learn english.

  • looks like the teacher had kinda fun to teach this lesson :-) I'm looking for a similar video in french. does somebody knows one? thanks!

  • Respect!

  • 59:24 rocks!

  • And this lasts nearly one hour? Goodness!

  • I think it's cool that these universities will post free lectures. I did learn something from this lecture but I didn't not watch it all. Darkroom and Dark room are fundementally different, obviously this is a rule and I can now apply this to my papers and if I get hit I can argue logically why I did or did not combine words.

  • The teacher in this video is a perfect example of what makes a great educator. i have only spoken English, but this video was fun to watch.

  • Anybody knows which textbook these guys are using? nice teacher

  • I teach ESL in China. This is a great video, but you can tell this is a high level. These students have had to pass all of the testing to get into college in the States. So they are dealing with perfecting their English. Great video.

  • The best lesson of real English I've had in my life. I wish I have had that kind of teacher when I was learning English! It would have been less painful.

    Please post more!

  • 5:48 teacher says, "what?"

Wouldn't, "Pardon", or "Excuse me" be a better expression to use in front of these students?

Afterall, in a situation when a student encounters a native English speaker that they have difficulty understanding...

bellowing, "WHAT?" isn't going to be welcomed.

  • Thanks for posting - People need to improve their English

  • extremelly good teacher:>

  • I'm curious to know why they use blackboards, not white boards.

  • cute teacher, thanks for the free lesson its very timely...

  • very excellent teacher .

  • Nice teacher

  • I Love this Lecture and , Thanks a lot I have Imporve my English a lot... Great.
