  • This woman KILLS me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Loves you Nina Simone!! Chills ran through me when i first heard this.

    This is singing!

I love to get drunk to this song...like, right now lol

    Oh Nina, you rule!!!

  • Love you TO

  • @MrSpongetufty I would like to know to this too. I have every album of hers (I think) but I can't find this particular live version on any of them. This is the best version by far so it's driving me crazy! The track on Little Girl Blue is different than this.

  • This isn't even 'music' anymore, it's pure waves of soul. And I don't mean "R&B"; I mean someone's innermost soul. Nina and the band are channeling the divine here. Hats off too to George Gershwin for conceiving this American operetta.

  • This is the MOST beautiful version of "I loves you Porgy" I ever heard; unmatchable performance.

  • One of the top most exquisitely beautiful performances of all time. MOVES ME

  • ...She then began playing in a small club in Philadelphia to fund her continuing musical education to become a classical pianist and was required to sing as well...

  • its a great melody - why not sing it

  • Don't let'em take me... et le piano, prolongement de son coeur, prend la suite et nous emporte sur le grand fleuve de l'Amour. Nina, toute jeune et déjà si savante...

  • Is this version on CD anywhere ?

  • @MrSpongetufty Yup! On "Little Girl Blue."

  • No one has ever sang "I Loves You Porgy" better than Nina.

This is the music I expect to hear in Heaven.

  • God why can't people EVER just enjoy the song? Both Nina and Christina did an amazing job. I am a huge Christina fan but I'm pretty sick of people fighting on YouTube. Christina, Nina, Adele, Beyonce. They're all amazing. The world has enough silly little battles. To each his/her own. Love! Merry Xmas! :D

  • Whiteman got a lot of pay back comming!

  • Beautiful piano and fantastic voice!

  • Wow! I'm crying now. lol ... Beautiful music, beautiful voice. Classic!

  • @SouBrazil

Muito obrigado por dividir comigo. Está nos meus favoritos e acabei de postá-la na Multimidia do dia do blog Luis Nassif Online, site advivo.com.br.

    Abraço do lucianohortencio.

  • @SouBrazil Lindaaaa!

Vou add em magajazz. Bjussss e feliz semana,

    ❤ ℳѦḠÅ ℒ€€:-))

  • this song feels like long soft silky angellic tresses passing over my face .....m soooooooo in love with it..

  • the way she doesn't emphasize "Porgy" at 1:12 - pretty wicked, as in sick, as in wow - as for what follows...take your pick. thank you, miss nina simone.

  • I saw a later production of Porgy and Bess at the Theater in McCormick Pace sometimes in the 80s. On one of the scenes the curtains opened and the sun rose and for a moment, I thought it was the real sun...it was an awesome play. I loved this from the time of my youth until this day and respected the unique works of the legend Ms. Simone. RIP. When they made you, they broke the mold, as the old folks used to say. Believe that!

  • @calvin60616 I'm a grown man as well and i'm right there with you buddy. Beautifully said

  • clearly there are 13 people who are dire need of education

on what constitutes good music !

  • This is part of a duet from the opera "Porgy and Bess" by George and Ira Gershwin. Both Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, two more of jazz's greatest voices, have recorded it.

  • Woman got soul

  • Strawberry Woman / Crab Man / I Loves You Porgy

  • Not tearing up FAIL.

  • WOW! Thank You.

  • can anyone tell me what album "theys so fresh and fine" is on?

  • Comment removed

  • This is the type of music that makes you cry because it's sooooo beautiful and I'm a grown man. I'm sitting here tearing up because music just isn't how it used to be. God rest your precious soul Nina Simone, you are truly an unparalleled and unique treasure to the music World and an Angel here on Earth! I'm literally sitting here with goosebumps for God's sake...

  • @calvin60616 why do they all die so early. Maybe they come and go back

  • @calvin60616 Hai ragione.. per fortuna c'è chi ancora sa percepire emozioni come queste..

  • @calvin60616 I couldn't agree more bro!!! Well spoken!!

  • @calvin60616 I agree with you Calvin. I am also a grown man, and not much can make me cry...but Nina's voice and her sexy, yet elegant, piano makes me weep like a baby. You can tell that she really feels. And really feeling is something that lacks from the the music world of today. End of 2011.

  • Wow, you just don't hear stuff like this anymore. So classy! Music today has nothing on this!

  • no words of gratitude and love will ever do this great artist, this beautiful woman justice!

  • Nina The Bugga With The Sugar! Forever!

  • essa mulher é simplesmente perfeita- Abraços do Brazil !

  • Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone on the penthouse floor. Everyone else in the lobby. Incredible!

  • A question for spoiledbritt86, Please the two songs are I loves you Porgy and...?

    Thanks.

  • Brilliant,,, really Brilliant,,,,,,

I look forward to meeting this legend when I get to heaven........

  • This always puts a smile on my face no matter how crappy my life's goin

  • Overused word perhaps, but genius is the only one that suits.

  • I cant find the lyrics for thing song!!! someone please help me! thank u

  • @ultimatefight3rr Google it! Its there. Of course Nina does add lib quite a bit so the rest will have to be transcribed. Cheers! :)

  • To bad so-called "artists" like Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson don't have what Nina had.

  • So wonderful...! Ahhh , thanks for posting!

  • composing while between two songs, is classic performance.

  • Just beautiful. Don't know what else to say. :D

  • Nina linda.

  • She puts so much emotion into this song. Knowing the context of this song and her performance, it brings tears to the eyes.

  • @cbs2don me too, for my sweet Daddy, and my baby, and my sugar...

  • uffffffff.. no words

  • when that curtain opens, and these people got together, do you you think they realised the MAGIC they created.?? What real class; the peak of perfection.

  • Nina you keep amazing me, this is the most soothing ballad ever, timeless.

  • I loves you Nina

  • So that was genuinely beautiful. I keep forgetting Nina Simone is a goddess, then I come back and listen to her stuff and get blown away :D

  • This was just so beautiful. Just speechless!!

  • I can't believe 12 people doesn't like it. Bah... To me she is perfection.

  • Thanks for this, I listen to it often

  • 貴方の歌に、ピアノにも偽り無き魂が!~絶品ニーナ・シモン~I LOVE YOU PORGY~唸る! #jazzm

  • for a moment there the world is hauntingly beautiful, captivating, for this moment in time

  • But really though at the end of the day, Xtina truly doesnt even fall in the same ball park as Nina who =soul and the exploration of it. Xtina is a shallow illusion with pretty blue eyes and nice vocal cords. Not Comparable just because she sings a song the the lyrics we are beautiful...takes more than that, its something that she'll never be able to know...

  • I think the argument below just lessens the beauty of the song. its nonsense. This is Gods love painted for you and me through music and Nina Simone is just the brush. She was a wonderful woman whose voice and musical genius was a tool to deliver a deeper more soul filled message. She was just the messenger. So take that for what it is, a beautiful message of unadulturated love.

  • @TheMah1986 Nina Simone was a passionate, soul baring perfectionist and an incredibly intelligent woman. She was therefore MUCH more than just a messenger or a brush. As the song deals with oppression it is hardly religious or god driven; it is quite the opposite in my mind.

  • @123jsbach I respect that you have an opinion. I am a Nina fan myself. I've educated myself about her struggle and drive to simply be able play the music she loved and wanted to play as a pianist, for the civil rights movement and her peers as they were slowly assassinated or left the movement out of fear, and I also know of her frustration with this country and fear for her own life in choosing to leave. I am well versed on Nina. However, I respectfully feel you are missing my point...cont.

  • @123jsbach She is "praying" to be with who/what she knows/loves and not taken from "him", not to be exploited for "him", not to be used and abused by "him". This is a great song b/c it has taken on a different mood for each artist that has done their own version. The thing to remember here is she is BEGGING (its in her tone) not to be taken from her love. God literally IS love my friend, he is in you, and me, and everyone. NO ONE is greater than he who is ALL. Not even the impeccable Nina.

  • @TheMah1986 Your argument here is quite different in style to previously where you where you were insulting everybody connected to the previous conversation, which had deviated greatly from whence it came. It is of course very kind of you to respect that I have an opinion. God IS love - IF you believe in him. Not everybody does.

  • @TheMah1986 . I understand that a religious person would want to regard any experience of pain as some sort of penance or something that draws them closer to God (suffer little children) or believe that people automatically turn to God in their hour of need. I know I do, but not everybody does. You should understand that the assumption is a pain in the arse for many.

  • @123jsbach Ok, I'm leaving this convo alone with this...When I say God IS Love...I mean that quite literally. The two words are interchangeable. Whatever name you have for it...a warm memory, a sunset, a kiss from your spouse or child, a belly aching laugh...all of those inexplicable wonders and emotions are synonymous with the maker. I'm not saying people should believe in what society has told them God is...(for sadly there is man made perversion in all organized religion) however...cont.

  • @123jsbach an individual's one on one relationship with the extraordinary..again I say God, you may say love for my child...that is something that is pure and can only be appreciated when you've explored that relationship for yourself...Therefore, if you don't believe in God than how can you believe in LOVE? People don't have to believe in MY God but don't confuse semantics..which only blur the lines with language. cont..

  • @123jsbach I don't mean to imply that Nina is singing or crying out for God as a "crutch", which I agree happens in times of sincere despair. On the contrary this is an incredibly pain FILLED song...however you cannot have hurt if you don’t have love. And as painful as life can be, that's a reflection of how MUCH you love. At the end of the day, as my original comment stated, this song IS a beautiful song of love...surfaced by hurt... And it is in that hurt where the beauty of LOVE/God lies....

  • @123jsbach ...and just to clarify...I'm not sure if there is a misunderstanding...my original 2 posts were not referring to your convo, I wrote the "discussion below"...meaning the people cursing and arguing about Christina Aguilera v. Nina. I was not saying your discussion was irrelevant...FYI. just went and looked at my post and saw you were directly below me and may have misunderstood.

  • @TheMah1986 Yeah I did think it was a sweeping statement, so thanks for clearing that up. Not sure about the whole God thing-been around the angles lots this year re religion and god so much that my head spins, but am now very aware of how condescending god talk can be to people who do not revere such matters. I do believe that love is inherent in all we do and that music is a fundamental expression of our lives and therefore love. Whatever it is, may it be with you. x

  • the dislikes are souless beasts sulking in the drudgery that is their lives

  • Billie...

  • A melhor Porgy de todas, seguida, pertinho , da Billy .

    Meu Deus, obrigada .

  • Warning about listening to this song and drinking wine: Don't do it or you will reach a soulful, deep hidden part of you that you didn't even remember you had. And even have a tear in your eye remembering your own personal "Porgy"... Love you Nina! Evoking deep emotion all these years. All hail, High Priestess of Soul.

  • @choster2033 you are so right... didn"t even know i would end up here... god love nina

  • @choster2033 you hit the nail on the head. i had some white wine, thought of an old flame, and am tearing up...

  • @choster2033 i'm right there..

  • @choster2033 That is an excellent comment.

  • cdngo and joetj: get a room!

  • This is her song.

  • Does anyone realize that she's alternating between playing two songs, while singing 2 songs, and making up a song?!

    0,0

This woman is amazing, absolutely AMAZING!

  • @spoiledbritt86 On one of her vids, she plays in a classical style on a soul/rnb tune, "Four Women." Yes, the lady was amazing!! I wished I could have caught her live before she died. Another wonderful element of history, Jazz, RnB or otherwise. . . .

  • so beautiful... i particularly love the piano part from 1:53-2:28 :)

  • Nothing beats Nina's emotion, but I have a recording where she sticks a little more strictly to the melody and I think I prefer that. Though I might just be more used to it.

  • Christina did the song justice...

  • @Mikeawesome04 saw that video. While she has a very good voice, it was well below Ms. Simone in terms of greatness.

  • Very close to the original of Gershwin.I heard a stage performance of "Porgy and Bess" with the same personel of debut on theatre, she brought back most of the original spirit and added a lot, precious!

  • I love it. Song never gets old.

  • I love Billie Holiday and all, but her version just can't compare to Nina's.

  • And Bruno Mars's grandfather is on the guitar!

  • I have been watchign this video non since for the last 2 days now. Wow I haven't heard something this beautiful and classy in such a long time. God truely blessed Nina, she is so humble and pretty. Such a sweet thing :-)

  • @CMcCail Non stop*

  • doesn't matter where i am or what i'm doing, this woman makes me weep like a child every time

  • i have a question about this, it deviates from all the known tracks on her CDs substantially so is this the original taken literally from the opera by the gershwins? or is nina ad libbing?

  • @earlakanik adlib from the top of the song to the very end lol

  • someone punch that stupid drummer in the face and make him lay off the cymbal

  • 10 people dont like music....

  • Christina Aguilera did a perfect version of this song. I love it

  • @joetj a perfect version? Christina can't hold a candle to Nina Simone's voice.

  • @cdngo Um yes Christina can. You should be glad Christina looks up to her and is inspired by her. If it wasn't for Christina I along with alot of others wouldn't even know who Nina is let alone look her up on youtube. Christina is a white girl with soul and loves alot of black singers and has them as her inspiration.

  • @joetj okay. It doesn't change my opinion though. By the way, Adele blows Christina Aguilara out of the water in every category.

  • @cdngo sorry I don't care about Adele's fat ass and no she doesn't blow Christina out of the water. You may like her voice better but she'll never be on Christina's level and she'll never be called "The Voice of our Generation" like Christina. Deal with it. Hate on Christina all you want but it doesn't change the FACT that Christina is regarded as one of the best singers of our time ever.

  • @joetj easy big fella. No need to get nasty. If you can't even acknowledge Adele's incredible talent, resorting to commentary on her body, saying "hate on" like an ignorant fool, telling someone to "deal with it," you have other issues to be concerned about. As Adele's smoothe, powerful, and soulful voice continues to amaze more and more people around the world, I hope you don't still have blinders on, holding your hands over your ears, saying " I can't hear you.....I can't hear you."

  • @cdngo Adele DOES NOT BLOW CHRISTINA OUT OF THE WATER IN EVERY CATEGORY. Statements like that are just as ignorant as me calling Adele a fat ass which she actually is. Exactly how is saying "hate on" or "deal with it" mean I have issues. That was also stupid to say and actually funny since you base those too non-relevant phrases as to someone having issues lol. Get it together buddy. Still doesn't change the FACTS of what I said about Christina and they are indeed facts.

  • @joetj i wish you hadn't have found out about nina simone, it would have been better here if you had never showed up! pfft, christina? really? cmon....shes got nothing!

  • @TheJourneyAgent how bout you just stfu cause like I said cause of Christina more people know who Nina is. You're stupid to say Christina's got nothing...that's an ignorant statement

  • @joetj Soulless technique doesn't mean anything, never has & never will, it's only impressive to superficial people with no taste & discernment. Nina Simone was an aspiring classical piano player who only became a singer out of necessity & discovered that her expression was uniquely valuable to & deeply affected lots of people. Chet Baker was a virtuoso trumpet player who could barely sing but his version of "My Funny Valentine" is still considered THE classic version. Soul & feel trumps all.

  • @metamorphosis67 And yet, go to any conservatoire of music and it’s the soul destroying drill which encapsulates the teaching, because that is the way they were taught, and you can’t teach someone to exploit their soul in their art if they don’t have it. Or maybe it’s extinguished before it’s allowed to ignite properly. A few rebels like Nina will survive, and are the notable exceptions that are worth listening to, because they have had to fight to be heard, and have had the strength to do so.

  • ...for my Daddy, my sweet Daddy, and my baby, and my sugar, and my...Porgy. This dude Porgy must have been quite a happy fellow

  • does this have such a magic feeling on anyone else other than me? It connects my inner-being with all that is good about being a human being

  • when I hear this I feel ike i'm dreaming...it's an awesome feeling...what a beautiful rendition...it is like being spellbound in a fantasy world...my soul soars when I hear this, life is wonderful!

  • Pure amazing-ness- I love Nina.

  • George Michael's Song Of The Day - 24/3/2011

    And it's a beauty.

  • 10 people accidently pressed the dislike button. take more care next time please.

  • The weight of this version is same as full version of Porgy and Bess.

  • in what cd or compliation or "best of" can i find this version, please? thanks

  • listening to Arturo Sandoval, who covers this song. Love, can't find his horn version on youtube, but love Nina Simone

  • So sad, the oppression against women, the brutality against black women through the rage of oppressed black men, we should all unite and fight the capitalist gaolers

  • what are the lyrics when she goes back into "Dey's So Fresh and Fine" at the end?

  • I get chills every time I listen to her voice.

  • One of my favorite jazz pieces. Brava Maestra Simone.

To think, she once faced racial discrimination despite holding a doctorate from Julliard.

  • Always a Nina Simone version of any song is Magnificent, what a wonderful performer from her youth to her last...

  • I thought I had heard this song and understood it, but when I Saw this and Nina's version...I feel like this is the FIRST TIME I'VE EVER HEARD this song and the emotions it evokes is so powerful. This is the Best rendition i have EVER heard. It brought tears to my eyes. This is music. I love you Nina Simone. Thank you for making me HEAR music again.

  • i just cant get enough of that

  • I must confess. The first time I heard Nina Simone I thought she was a man. Her voice is so mellow.

  • I come to tears whenever I hear this version...no matter where I am

  • I come to tears wherever I am when I here this version playing

  • I agree, this is an OMG moment for sheer, unique artistry and interpretation. I love how she's phrasing outside the traditional line. Better than even "Frank" or "Billie" at their best. I believe this is from the CD/DVD "I Loves You Porgy: Live 1962-1963." If someone sees the mp3 on line (I use Rhapsody) please note!

  • wow, i feel all warm inside.

    this is love

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • I love her tone!!!!

  • As a Nina Simone enthusiast I find this rendition of this song to be so beautiful even in reference to the original. Her expressive semi operatic delivery of this song along with the precision of her expert piano playing makes this piece a treasure. Although I don't feel like Nina's voice is haunting as much as it is emotionally charged I agree with the earlier comment that when I discovered Nina i discover the music as well!!!

  • That VOICE! - PLUS THE FACT THAT SHE PLAYED THAT PIANO FOR ALL IT WAS WORTH!

  • ten people are stone cold deaf!

  • Can this version be found on any of her albums?

  • never heard of Nina before... just happened to find her while browsing. this is definitive talent and we need more of that in this world today. i will be learning more about Nina and her music in days to come

  • Very few artists can make you happy and sad at the same time.....she is one.

  • Stunning and Haunting. I can see why Keith Jarrett covered this song

  • @gillboy69brum Well... Hers is a cover too, you know.

  • 10 people are theoretically dumb.

  • @TheSonie13 theoretically and literally

  • Love this performance, does anyone know where it is from?
