Either the developers are running out of ideas, or they're just going insane. Snake already joined the super samsh bros barlw, now they're combining sonic and mario. If it's about running, Mario has no chance against Sonic. But if it's about saving some princess over and over, mario has the advantage.

For it to be kind of realistic, in a race Sonic would have to be curled up, and ready to explode, and Mario would have to find a magic star from somewhere, (the ones's that allow him to run quicker). The it would be a fair(ish) race to see who is faster.

Also Tails v Luigi, there is only one winner there (tails). Knuckles is also pretty fast.
