I find the whole thing kind of sad - species after species, males always trying to get the females to do something the females don't really want to do.

Well, yeah. That's a part of it to. Look at the ratio of effort in this video, though. Whatever, though, that's life. Fucking, shitting, talking, sleeping. All that so we don't get bored. Boredom is dreaded by life even more than death.
