religion is the desease of the weak , the poor, and the followers of our time. time on the other hand, is starting to cure that desease.20 000 religions why cant people think for themselves and see this rubbish for what it is. one other thing, if such a god appeared before me,hed be in for one hell of a beating for the pain he has caused, followed by the detonation of my suicide back pack. a taste of his own medicine would certainly have to be in order.
I never get tired of hearing, or for that matter watching, the point Hitchens drives home with a sledgehammer that begins at about 0:50. It's the story of how the imagined god stands idly by, arms folded with an intent stare down at the earth (and no doubt mentally twiddling his thumbs) for 97 THOUSAND years before saying... 'can't let this go on, we'll have to intervene'. Hitch has told this at several debates and meets, and for me, it is just as funny every time. Truth hurts hilariously.
Great point. . . why would an omnipotent god, who demands absolute belief and worship of himself, above all else, reveal himself only to a handful of iron age people in the middle east? He could save all his beloved people from the eternal suffering of a horrendous hell he himself created (because he created everything) by simply revealing himself to EVERYONE. So why the hell has he not made himself obvious?!? Why bury his existence in ancient texts of dubious validity, and leave it at that?
@ggliddy Its like a stew of perfectly formed logical orguments. Hitchens plus a shave of Dennett and then simmer over Harris for 2 hours and then, just to really kick it, throw in some Dawkins spice; just to make sure you sear their taste buds.
@BillKiernan It's not Hitchens who needs new arguments; it's those on the side of religion, who posit nothing but "... because it says so in the [Bible] [Koran] [etc.] ... ." Hitchens gives no new arguments because no new arguments are given by the other side. Plus, how much more truthful could he be than he already is? ;)
true. also, it's a simple matter of me listening to too many of his debates, he probably didn't expect someone to be seeing so many of them. either way, he never lets me down with theist ownage.
Why does Hitchens remind me of Chief inspector Dreyfuss from the Pink Panther movies?
