Thanks, MRspock for you observations. I played a 5 string for a while. the 5th string was a C string like on a viola. I believe I went back to 4 strings because I liked the feel when playing.
reminds me of dad. I grew up listening to him play. he played fiddle with a group of guys that played bluegrass festivals through the 60s an 70s this was one he played. and grandfathers clock, orange blossom special, waiting on a sun rise, to many to count. thanks for the memories! dad played a homemade 5 string fiddle with a barcus berry pickup through twin reverb amplifier, man did it sound good! the 5th string was the C string from a cello.
Hey Elan! I want to thank you again for sharing so much of these valuable lessons. I bought your book "43 Fiddle Tunes in Tabs" about 3yrs ago when i became discouraged with not getting the notation method of learning and ran across your method. I'm now in a bluegrass band and playing downtown at events and local nursing homes. Learning how to play was the best thing i could have ever done! Thanks again! Jeff - dallas tx
Thanks for your comment. When your book gets to tattered, send me a message and remind me about the pdf form of the book. I'll send it to you. Elan
