They look like comb coils/twist, as the name suggests its done with a comb and gel. I started my locs this way but you dont have to loc with them they wash out!!

WHEN U USE A COMB THAT HAS THE SKINNIEST SIDE AND U APPLY THE TWIST AND LOCK CREME AND PLACE THE COMB AT THE STRAIGHT OF THE HAIR ROOT AND JUST TWIST THE CMB INTO THE HAIR AND PULL SLIGHTLY TIL U REACH THE END TRY NOT TO GET THE COMB TANGLED IN THE HAIR, THAT MAY HURT. I hope that was a lil helpful my bro. is a barber and thats the best way to do them they be real tight too.

on all my client (any texture or length) i use a light water based gel that doesnt have alcohol in it. that way their starter locks or hair that has already been locked won't be heavy or have any product build up and will be easy to clean.
