  • sad but in 2012..lyrics are gone

  • 1 DISLIKE? he was fucked by eminem...

  • lil wayne could learn from this.

  • We dont love each other....like we used to do!!!

  • Long Live the Tribe!

  • I love this tribe

  • Gotta love the sample,"Running away" by ROY Ayers.....thats HIP-HOP!!!I had this when it first came out...I use to play the hell out of this...lol,good Album..Raw Hip-Hop..AFRO CENTRIC!!!!

  • One of the greatest hip-hop albums in history

  • This reminds me of summer of 1990 riding the F train From Church ave to Coney Island with my big ass walkman that only had a rewind and play button lol. Been living down in Miami the past 12 years But ill never lose the vibe of Tribe called quest. Somethings will never be as good as they use to be, but in memory they will always be. One.

  • Theres a facebook group called "I hate hip hop". Basically a bunch if fools being foolish. I linked this to their page.

  • This and Award Tour has to be one of the greatest songs.

  • you know you got confidence in your beat when you let it run for the last 3 minutes of the song! my shit!

  • One of the best beats in hip hop. Has a dnb type of sound to it and I love it. This song isn't unpopular for A tribe Called Quest but I thought this one would be a top hit!

  • Back when hip-hop was hip-hop.

  • I'm 24 so I was like only 4 years old when this came out and I didn't really like hiphop when I was that young but started to in my teens... I enjoy this older hiphop more than the newer shit..

  • "who would love a woman turn around and abuse her!??".......a fool..pro-women used to be the theme..

  • the true art of hiphop music! *****

    Missu

  • This was one of my cutz!! I jammed this entire album in 1990-1; my senior graduation year (Western Hills H.S.-Cincinnati, OH). This is my favorite hip-hop group. I couldn't get enough of them!!

  • slick rick rhyme influenced

  • sagacious rhymes!

  • Comment removed

  • first time i've heard this song from tribe... no wonder this is part of their original 5 song sampler. sick shit.. gosh darn it i am IN LOVE WITH A TRIBE CALLED QUEST!!!!! HOLLA IF YOU ARE FEELIN' ME!

  • such an ill track.

the best of this album in my opinion.

I'm not saying hip-hop is dead, but no one makes shit like this anymore

  • @ruma17 I hear ya. Such a tune. The whole album is bangin' though, even if it did come out in what... 1990? 21 years :O

  • @kadiebeex That's a Sly & The Family Stone song off of "There's A Riot Goin' On". It's either called Running Away or Get Away... Great song off a very heady album. Just like the video above.

  • @wkramlin running away by roy ayers

  • @jerrymill89 Yeah, that's the main sample. The "a-ha-ha" part is Sly though.

  • @wkramlin Runnin Away by Roy Ayres

  • @erickliddell I'll repeat this once more. Yes, that is the main instrumental sample. But the "A-ha-ha-ha" part is Running Away by Sly & The Family Stone, which Kadiebeex was originally wondering about.

  • someone PLEASE help me out here.... the bit where it sounds like someone is saying 'a-ha-ha-ha-ha' that is repeated throughout the whole song.. i heard the song on the radio the other day but wasnt able to catch the name!! x

  • this song saved my life

  • the girl i talked to she's sort of neurotic (yeah)

her crazy ex-boyfriend is really psychotic (uh-huh)

  • tip's flow on the track is sick

  • Even though Tip is awesome on every track he is, the instrumental part is more than awesome.

  • haven't heard this one in a long time, classic track

  • ali shaheed went for the throat with this one

  • Roy Ayers - Running Away

  • one person is freaking deaf

  • @feraloner

no thye're just really depressed because they're isn't a video for this song.....that's what I think at least.

  • anyone know the group they sampled for this song?

  • this is a cool song but this was when atcq was trying to find their own sound this sounds kind of like something the jungle brothers would had used for done by the forces of nature album (look it up) but this is still a good song

  • New jacks cant see this .

  • omfg jesus can yall just shut up about wat hip-hop has come 2 now a days please? i mean there are some songs i dnt really reall disagree with but you cant blame them for underrating hip-hop it's not hip-hop. the more you hate the more they get famous i mean rap has a genre ppl learn that i feel that the fans who like materialistic music get it more than you guys do.

  • @jhammaster stfu hip-hop wasn't built of of materialism its a form of expressing yourself and a form of art

  • @cogreene wow you got the answer but ur theory was wrong. u see buddy music is a form of expressing yourself in anyway or any shape possible. u see the insane clown posse express themselves through horrocore u dnt attack them for it. materialism is a way of expressing yourself, an arrogant one but a way nonetheless. it's put on the market because u hear them in clubs im sure ppl want to dance right?

  • @cogreene but wait, theres more, genre has a way of expressing themselves and its art. example, gansta rap, hardcore rap, horrorcore, acid rap, golden age hip-hop, g-funk, underground hip-hop, materialism, crunk music, and trap musik, etc. 1 thing u dnt notice is that music has a repetition, theres a reason y lil changes his rapping, and i think nobody notices.

  • @jhammaster idk. it sounds like shit and the original purpose of rap was for friends to hang, have fun, and joke around....while expressing themselves. materialsim isnt expressin yourself its ignorant arrogance. all you things can be takin from you in an instant bro

  • @cogreene yeeeeeeeeeah u kno u just proved my point again right?

  • @cogreene but hey lets not argue about this lol this song is great and i would prefer this over the music industry now

  • just enjoy the music people. No need to analyze. it speaks for itself

  • Im turning 13 and today, I got all my mainstream cd's and took a hammer and broke them. I changed the people I was hanging with also. Im honestly just tired of the word nigga and a swear after every word. The music I listened to and the people I was hanging with definetly caused my grades to drop. It just made me not really care anymore. But this music just makes me feel like going to school and doing work and just working hard and enjoying life and the great music it comes with. :)

  • @tekknking good for you! the industry has always been terrible... soon it will crumble, for all the good musicians are going to the independent labels, and it will overpower the big ones.

  • @Milkshakeguy Haha yea, i realy dont get some artists in the game today. Lil wayne just mumbles some words lol. Drake used to be alright but some artists really dont know how to rap. Anybody can make a song after a dumb dance these days.

  • @tekknking I know exactly what you mean man, im 14 and almost feel the same way, ATCQ music is just so uplifting and motivational, right on brother :)

  • @tekknking

Continue to learn about great music young one! If you want any recs just ask!

  • @tekknking We support you. I hope you stayed on this path.

  • i just noticed there are alot of words on the album cover hahahaha still a good album but DAMMm thats just silly

  • the tribe called quest but at classic after classic, real hip hop!!!!!

  • Roy Ayers - Running Away (1977).

  • Man i love how the rapping ends and leaves you with an endless and classic beat.. Shits mad good.

  • @ddrruummmmeerr i was totally just going to post the same thing.. end of the rap.. then 2.5 minutes of one of the sickest beats ever, goes on and on.. i wish every good track had a big coda like that..

  • @maTRsss And you understand everything, shut up you zeek. Shouldnt you be listening to top 10 radio hits.

  • great song but... the rap ends at 2:37? in a 5:42. nothing wrong with the beat but it leaves the song feeling incomplete in my opinion

  • @danthedonHBB This song was made during the heavy house music movement in NYC so that gap was done on purpose. This is a house beat and I think your a little to young to remember that era but people who are old enough can relate..

  • @SparkWater yeh im not old enough. wots the idea/purpose of the gap?

  • RRoy Ayers, ... timeless!!!

  • one of the best beats ATCQ has ever done.. love this song

  • i LOVE this beat!!

  • This Is Boom Bap! Know This Yute!!!

  • damn forgot about this one this was the time use to have the coldest b-sides of they 12'inches too and i only bought they 12'

becuase of this i mean the b sides were better than THe ORIGINAL featured single you were supposed to buy the record for says uzipolo king of decatur

  • I wish I could go to the club and hear this song playing, I would start dancing right away and rapping I like I wrote the song.

  • gotta love the outro drums on this tribe track.

  • real hip hop now its cool to be a fool im 17 and there is a song one hit wonder""get silly""" fuck this new weak rap out now..i love the legends

  • @thesouthrapsucks i notice your username is the south rap sucks look we dont have the same lifestyles ppl have in the west the east the midwest or the north all are raps are different learn what rap genre is please.

  • @thesouthrapsucks Now that is amazing to here that someone from the younger crowd say they love hip hop from back in the days. I'm 31 and I was in Jr. High at the time during this era of the Culture and it was great. Rap City and Yo MTV Raps was bagging back then. Hip Hop had so much soul you could not denied it. Productions and Marketing was much better but today it has fallen off of it blue print. It will be up to you the younger crowd to help bring it back. You all got The Juice. Peace

  • @KrazyDave1978

he's no the only one except I was alive when this was made

I like new Hip Hop but you have to search hard to find anything good these days, it's not the same but it's good enough for me :)

  • @thesouthrapsucks I am the same age and I have the same perspective on this issue haha

  • @thesouthrapsucks why does it matter how old you are.......?

  • @jesuisdesmontagnes because most people our age are growing up to like the radio bullshit... duh

  • MMM....good stuff!

  • REALLY FEELING THIS 2DAY!!! FOOOOOL

  • Still own this cassette tape suckas!

  • ha!

  • I remember listening to this album over and over when I was a 14 yr old... that's when I fell in love with Hip-Hop.

  • I actually lol'd

  • LOVING THIS

  • the beat was raw.i like how flip the roy ayers beat.

  • this was the first tribe song i really got into, i love them now... great fn track right here

really curious - anyone else think the line "whats the matter with you boy" pays homage to the same line in the rolling stones song "miss you"?

  • Lmao, I was thinkin that too.

But most people wouldn't make that connection between the two genres.

Cool to find someone who notices that kinda shit too.

  • this beat goes hard, who has a song w/immortal technique q-tip or mos def ?

  • im trying to find a house music called descreption

    this shitt is fucked up

  • Janeshe 2 says: love um love um

forget him, don't you know he's a loser"

who would love a woman turn around and abuse her"

tell dis ish 2 chris brown..........

  • MCing on point, Scratching on point and the Beat is on point. It's Hip Hop at it's finest. I just thank the heavens that I grew up listening to this instead of what kids today have to listen to.

  • My favorite group forever!

Most fun songs and mad talent!

  • The vocals the drums are a combination of and elaborate illuminate tone.. this pro. is CRAZY anyone know where i can get the instrumental?

I wish i had the LP man but im 19 i wasnt even born when this came out

  • well, the original sample may be the closest you ll get, check out roy ayers running away 12" version for that smoothed out groove ;)

  • For All Those That Don't Know, Slick Rick & Pete Rock Used The Same Sample For Their Unreleased Joint Called "World Reknown". Check That One Too As Well.

Cause It Will Make You Play This Tribe Classic Right Here So You Can Keep That Real Hip Hop Vibe Going, Peace...

  • Tribes some of the best music ever madee

  • very cool

  • That beat is so funky.

Damn if only ATCQ was still rappin.

My God i love them with a passion.

  • This song reminds me of the Chris Brown situation.

  • @cjwboy Chris Brown was a puppy when this song came out....LOL

  • I like this shit crusing around on the backroads at night

  • i love listenin to this shit on a spring day in the city!!

  • oh yeah!

  • "You're a fool of many in society"

    Ain't that the truth!

  • Today's music represents nothing. No matter what time period good music was made in, you can always claim it as new because music like this is TIMELESS!!!

  • "Earth to your brain... is anyone home?"

Gotta love the closing minutes of pure beat... great for you freestylers and dancers.

  • WORD!

  • Hip-Hop is miss you, where have you gone, why don't you make music like this anymore? I hope you come back someday and make songs like this one.

  • Roy ayers running away. This was one of my favorite cuts on tribe first album plus I'm a big Roy Ayers fan.

  • I'm French i'm 18 and surrounded by all those bullshits we hear on radio today. I'm so sad that I couldn't live this period when hip hop sounded so good! Plus I can't find those classic rap albums in france. Fuck all'em non-sense rap songs by TI lil wayne t pain etc

  • that boy Ali Shaheed Muhammad is a monsta!

  • y cant rap be like this today??

  • good song great album

  • This tune is a banger!

  • The Tribe is one of the greatest and most influemtial music groups of all time.

I hate all this perverted and annoying "pop hop" that's all over the radio and the media nowadays(like Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne...ugh)The sad thing is that people actually like that BS.

These days you really have to dig deep to find REAL Hip Hop like A Tribe Called Quest once did.Real music for life.

  • Definetely, please listen to Strange Fruit Project-Good Vibes. They are a group from Texas and really have that tribe sound.

    Real Hip Hop

  • the girl I talk to she such of neurotic her crazy ex girlfriend is really psychotic there's a girl by threatening her life said girl your dead if your not my wife. beater in public, beats her in private tried round me almost a riot said forget him don't you know hes a loser, whowouldloveawomanturnaroundandabuseher.

  • ROY AYERS "RUNNIN AWAY"

  • "like grodzilla from the twilight zone

  • q-tip said, "like rod serling, not grodzilla.

    still great song

  • more like 10/10

  • my jam!

  • wow, takes me way back--i was 12 at the time, tight beats, slick samples, rhymes that flow like honey. upbeat, positive, timeless...atcq=true hip hop. i remember when new joints were droppin' every other day; there was so much coming out of nyc at that time. 4 train, 9 bus, fordham road, the boogie down, good times. thanks for the post

  • what a hip hop song, early 90's style

  • This was the 1989 album. I was 12 at the time and I remember everything in life at the time: Detroit won the NBA title; Arsenio Hall Show first came on; hip-hop was at its best. Damn this is my childhood and life. The music back then was a great soundtrack of all of our lives. No good music today and it's sick music has died.

  • damn.. that's a tight ass story..

  • You dont know nothing about this good shit young buck.

  • 7/10

  • roy ayers is related to me...heheee

  • this is hip hop at it's purest form...i still bump this song in my ride today even though it was made in 1989

  • Good music is timeless.

  • Damn good. Roy Ayers and Ubiquity FTW!!!

  • Referring to the sample of the track, BTW.

  • greatest group ever

  • Can anyone upload "Footprints"???? The track is from this very same album...

  • ROY AYERS SAMPLE

  • tight joint by ATCQ

  • I had this in 1990 , this was my shit, I still think low end theroy was the best this was second though, it was very thoughtfull, I miss real hip hop where everybody aint gangsters, HIP HOP is DEAD like that Dela soul album back in 91. Man i miss real hip hop.

  • This is real hip hop... and hip hop is dying right now :(

  • "Low End Theory" always gets mentioned when people speak of the greatness of the Tribe, but this album deserves mentioning too when speaking of Tribe's greatness. Like "Low End Theory", this is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made. Truly a timeless classic!

  • I loved every song on this album, but I loved this song as well (especially the end). When I had this album back in the day, I didn't really understand what I had (One of the greatest hip hop albums ever) but I was like 15, 16 and gangsta rap was in. Still, I dug every song here, though. I loved how unique the album was at the time, heck, it still is.
