I ought to be cautious making predictions about the future of Burma, but I do instinctively feel that Senator Webb's visit could be a first step in the long road towards a rapprochement between Burma and the West. It is a sign of pragmatic "Realpolitik" from both sides. Burma should try to become less dependent on its Big Brother China, since Burma is in China's "backyard" and it is a very unequal relationship (as history can tell). so it is good for Burma to open up to the rest of the world.
