  • so uplifting

  • as a big football fan, I didn't see how this fits in before one of the most important tournaments... but it gets more and more epic :)

  • Peter Carrie kinda looks like Jeremy Irons

  • The number one and only Valjean is Colm Wilkinson.

  • Magnifique...divin !

  • Peater Karrie <3

  • Phil Cavill sounds like he might have grown a set of testicles from when he sang at the 10th Anniversary.

  • Deserves more views....

  • REINHARD BRUSSMAN gets my vote for most commanding of all the non-English speaking Valjeans. Javert says that Jean Valjean is a very strong man, who, all alone, is able to lift the runaway cart off the man trapped beneath it. Of all the actor-singers appearing here, only REINHARD BRUSSMAN looks as if he could really do that. Short, slim, tenors don't fill that bill. Colm Wilkinson does looks strong -- he's also a viable Jean Valjean.

  • Peter Karrie - one of the very best Valjeans.

  • God, Peter Karrie gets around doesn't he? Seeing this makes me feel very honoured to have seen Jeff Leyton (representing Scotland here) play Jean Valjean in Bristol

  • God, Peter Karrie gets around doesn't he? See this makes me feel very honoured to have seen Jeff Leyton (representing Scotland here) play Jean Valjean in Bristol

  • what are they chanting?

  • @ihatekollege Nothing worth understanding - those are ignorant hooligans.

  • Love it! Wow!!! Just Wow!!!

  • @superseacucumber, hi im from the netherlans and no he didnt wink he just blinked his eyes for a second like you normally do :) it was nothing really :)

  • jeff leyton tearin it up

  • all footballers are wankers, fancy chanting behined this lovely this fantastic performance, they are animals

  • I need to agree with Play179 - Colm Wilkinson IS Jean Valjean. But I need to admit the Austiran Reinhard Brussman and the Polish Krzysztof Stasierowski are very impressive too!

  • Hmm... is it just me or did that guy from the Netherlands wink at around 2:46?

  • Phil Cavill looks like a Shaolin monk LOL

  • lovely to see the power of this music. 80 000 ppl stopped chanting and listened!

  • It's exiting and touching in the same time to see how Jean Valjean just brings all those lands, all those people together. His soul realy came to live overthere

  • Some lands may have done some miscastings, Colm Wilkinson surely isn't when of those. He sounds just amazing. A nice surprise for me, was the Netherlands' Henk Poort! I enjoyed that voice. But no Belgian Jean Valjean... It can't exist that Belgium didn't take part in this event???? The shame! Maybe we Belgians just haven't such strongs voices :p

  • @yamifannetje The problem is this vid is from 1996 and the Belgian production first opened in 1998 with Hans Peter Janssens as Valjean

  • Seeing/Hearing all these people singing the part together is always so beautiful, it could just be the 15 year old stupidity I have, but I find this so amazing that I get goosebumps every time I hear this!

  • @Nerdynessocity Don't worry, that stupidity will last till you're 18 lol :)

  • @Nerdynessocity I hope, you will keep this kind of "stupidity" forever! It is called enthusiasm. :-) Many people lose this when they get older.

  • A good friend of mine sings it also very good !

    ;o)

  • Wales, Austria, Colm, Scotland and England are the best

  • @jondoe - Jeff Leyton is my fave JVJ ever - what a VOICE :)

  • go unc (jeff) , this is feckin brill, everytime i see this i realise how good you really are. johnny x

  • Reinhard Brussmann is the best !!!

  • They are ALL fantastic!

  • I like their vests. If some of these men sound better than they did in TAC it is because they are singing different parts of the piece. The wind blowing through the mikes spoils the effect but that is what always happens during outdoor concerts.

  • The crowd chanting ruins the start of this.

  • @VonBraunsky luckily Colm's voice is so strong it oversounds everything.

on the other hand , it was just a soft strofe he was singing so he couldn't give the maximum of his voice ...

  • This shows off these guys voices MUCH better than the finale from the TAC did. Phil Cavill has a better voice than I thought he did based on the TAC vid.

  • @play179

    Hell Yeah!

  • Jerzy Jeszke and Krzysztof Stasierowski

I am proud of you, beautifull singing BRAVO

    Best Regards from Dorota .

    Pozdrawiam Was serdecznie. Gratulacje

    Schönste Grüße. Ich gratuliere Euch-

    Wunderbare Event :-)))))))))))

  • you didnt think it meant "fuck the what" did you?

sorry guys but colm wilkinson will always be known as the original jean valjean. nobody beats him... ever

  • @play179 If you are talking to me, no I didn't think it stood for "fuck the what" loser.

  • A bit sensitive I see crocodile dundee. didn't mean to hurt your feelings in any way but you seem to be a prick so I take it back :)

  • @play179 that's because he literally was the first man to play Valjean in a production of Les Miserables...not that girls did it before him XD

  • @play179 Disagree massively. Phil Caville & Gary Morris smoke Colm imho

  • What does FTW mean?

  • For The Win!

  • where's the japanese :))

  • @martinpawpawpaw

japan is not part of Europe

  • Tommy Körberg Sweden FTW!!!

  • Jeff Leyton FTW.

  • I love it :D!

  • Is this available on video or DVD?

  • I know John Owen-Jones is amazing and all that but bloody hell what about Phil and Jeff! I love them!!!

  • John Owen Jones isn't that good.

  • i dont know i played jud in oklahoma and pretending to fall on my own knife was quite painful :)

  • They sound better in the 10th Anniversary Concert

  • ik denk zelf dat het nog beter was geweest als rene van kooten er had gestaan voor nederland maar helaas had hij toen die rol nog niet gespeeld

  • Definitely did not know that Wilkinson is from Ireland. I kind of hate ow people are chanting throughout it

  • football fans dont tend to care much for musicals :)

  • That's because nobody gets hurt in a musical.

  • I thought they were chanting "Les Mis"

  • Jeff Leyton is from Scotland. I was told that he played Jean Valjean for Ireland. I don't know if this is true or not.

  • omgahh. phil cavil gave me goosebumps.

correction: phil cavil gave me goosebumps, but they weren't anything compared to the ones i got when they all sang together. this is just amazing. :)

  • The most amazing thing is hearing each pair singing in their own language and ending the part together in one language. This is the spirit of true understanding among nations!

  • In this Jeff Leyton is listed as being from Scotland but in the 17 International Valjeans part of the Tenth Anniversary Concert he is listed as being from Ireland.

Can anybody clarify this switch in nationality?

  • Beautiful! This is our world!!

  • This is absolutely fantastic!

  • can sumoneplz tell me wot the song is whe phill cavill and rob marriien is singing?

  • Who am I?

  • it ent i found out its at before he turns himself in and revealsis identity, i is after "at the end of the day" but thankx anyway.

  • no, its valjeans soliloqui (what have i done) right BEFORE at the end of the day

  • he actually sings it twice. Once right before "atthe end of the day"and once when he's revealing ihs true identity

  • COLM WILKINSON IS AWEEEESOME!! all the other guys are really gud tho. The only guy i just CANNOT stand is the guy from wales that sings the high A in bring him home "how soon they fly on and on", i cringed.

  • Go Scotland!

  • colm wilkinson best ever :) congrats to the others :)

  • Go Scotland!

    Colm Wilkinson best there is!

  • COLM WILKINSON..

    The best..the only Jean Valjean!

  • ah you've got to love peter karrie <3 what a lovely guy

  • Karrie was good as the Phantom as well.

  • he was (:

  • waauw

    Henk Poort of course:D

but everyone sings very very beatifully

  • Sends chills up my spine. Beautiful.

  • Too bad all the world can't learn from this.

  • That is a difficult song to sing - impressive, but unfortunate that there was chanting in the background.

  • what was the crowd chanting.....

  • What a thrill...to listen to this beautiful song in multiple languages. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • What were the crowd shouting at the beginning?

  • think it is "Valjean "

  • if so then they were saying it like "Val-JEEN"

  • See Phil Cavill *before* he was famous (with hair!) in his band "Special Guests". Search in YouTube for "Phil Cavill Special Guests".

  • so many of them were in the 10th anniversary concert and look pretty different from then

  • Drew Sarich is the best although phil cavill is so effortless with those top notes

  • Phil Cavill sounded so effeminate at the 10th Anniversary concert. He certainly redeemed himself here.

  • I like all of them :)

  • wow i think that robert marien and phil cavill did the best!! anyone agree? amazingg performence!

  • Jan Jeszek is the best!!!

  • If this was the Euro Assembly, what was Israel doing there?????

  • Yeah, I may hate social studies/geography, but I know Israel isn't anywhere near Europe!

  • Israel competes in Euro competition because their Arab neighbors compete in Asia competition and those two places don't want to be in the same place at the same time or else there would be too much tension and trouble.

  • While you probably right (and thanks), it still sounds nuts. It's like saying we compete in a Eurpean Game in of a Pan-America game because of a beef with Cuba.

  • Comment removed

  • Not Quite. Israel's neighbors have a near-unilateral desire to wipe Israel from the map so they want to avoid that threat - just look at the 1976 Olympics

  • Still doesn't answer my question.

  • what is your question then?

  • What? You don't read? I asked why the hell would Israel be part of a presentation of the European Jean Vajeans celebrating the anniversary of Les Miz?

  • Because is close enough to Europe that if they want to participate in international events they can do so with Europe. And the reason they opt to do so is because the Middle East and Arab world doesn't exactly look at Israel in the kindest light.

  • That answer's crazy! Have you ever looked at a map? There are a lot of countries physically closer to Europe than Israel. As for political issues of a non-EU country, that couldn't have had anything to do with a celebration of Les Miz. Look, go answer someone else's post. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

  • Yes, there are countries closer than Israel to Europe, but Israel is still relatively close - a 45 minute boat ride to Cyprus (I've taken it). And politics plays a role in almost everything. But its more than politics - its a fear for the safety of its citizens. I think that as an Israeli citizen, I do know what I'm talking about.

  • What you've told me is a direct reflection of your opinion. I don't give a damn about your opinions, or your fears for that matter. When I originally asked MY question, I was hoping that someone, FROM EUROPE, who had read a news article in a European paper or watched a news report from a European news source that explained why would answer my question. If I'd wanted an opinion, I'd have made one up of my own. Go and bother someone else!

  • someones touchy

  • Yeah...you're probably right. That troll was starting to get on my nerves.

  • Well, they're probably not all that welcome in the Middle East equivalent of the Euro.

  • HEENKKK (l)

  • I sure wish I had an mp3 of this!

  • Oh man, this rocks too much face. My favorites are the Welsh and Polish guys, they are awesome, their languages are so cool! 2:30on it just starts getting super intense. :D

    I LOVE Les Mis.

  • lovely

  • That was . . . awsome. :D :D

  • jean valjean IS Colm wilkinson... but they are all amazing!! Jeff Leyton and Phil Cavill are incredible!!

  • congrats ! Lovely vid. 5*

  • so touching... I love this vid

  • muy buena aunque faltan paisanos míos

  • wow..i am Jean valjean and i have to do the play tomorrow but i am girl..but this is inspiring though

  • Phil Cavill from England ("this is all I have lived for, this is all I have known") is by far the best in my opinion. He has the most AMAZING ability to belt consistant high A's with the most pure tone out of any Valjean I have ever heard. Even more than Colm when he was first on Broadway.

  • Really Awesome!!!!; Amazing Voices (Reinhard Brussman and Robert Marien are GREAT!)

  • Wow...

  • I'm addicted to this vid. Thank you so much for posting it

  • great video - thanks for posting it from France

  • ¡maravilla!

  • I love this! Look at the guy not singing at 2:30 -- the joy on his face as he watches. I'll bet they all had a great time putting this together and performing it together :-) Thanks for posting!!!

  • this is really awesome!!! seeing different nationalities singing in one event!!!

  • I love Colm, Peter Karrie, and Jeff Leyton!

  • cxolm wilkonson is the best...the original j v j

  • Love how Dudu Fisher and Tommy Korberg's part actually sound like a duet and how Jerzy Jeske and Jan Jeszek's...well...does not. :) Colm Wilkinson is out of tune as usual.

  • Why do international Valjeans always have Gavrii as entourages?

Mm, I like Jeff Leyton. And Robert Marien, of COURSE. Colm will always be my Jean Jean, obviously. Though Henk Poort wins for most awesome-looking name. Closely tied by Dudu Fisher. No, wait, Dudu Fisher is funnier. I'm IMMATURE.

"I fed my vengeance at the meagre meals. This is all I have lived for. This is all I have known" made me WTF for a millisecond.

All in all, WIN and favvies.

  • someone have the video with simply red singing "we're in this together" in this ceremony??? please please if you have please please upload!!! i want see it!!!

    thanks!!!

  • Colm Wilkinson is by far the best Jean Val-Jean and is only bettered in musicals by Steve Balsamo

  • OMG! Yes! I so agree! Colm Wilkinson is by far my fave Valjean! Les Mis is my fave musical, but my sencond fave is Jesus Christ Superstar! Steve Balsamo is my fave Jesus!

  • Of the non-English speaking actors, I like Tommy Körberg and Reinhard Brussman. But really like hearing Phil Cavill sing.

It's amazing how hushed the crowd got after we first hear them chanting! Who knew Valjeans could do that at Wembley Stadium!

  • I've seen Jeff Layton several times in Les Mis and he has the best voice I have ever heard.

  • oh, without a doubt.

  • England And Scotland is totally the best i fink x

  • Peter Karrie is the best in my opinion! He's fab!

  • The wales dude... well I am almost sure he is drunk

  • love the welsh singer.

  • I wish Dudu Fisher took part in the Encore of the 10th Anniversary - I mean they had American, Irish, English, Australian and Canadian singers and they were all in English - they could have been a bit more diverse.

  • "I mean they had American, Irish, English, Australian and Canadian singers and they were all in English"? on the video? No those were all the European Jean Valjean's. There were no american, canadian or australian singers there? Unless i am confused by what you wrote.

  • No, I meant in the 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall. There were seventeen Valjeans and five English singers (from England, Canada, Australia, Ireland and American) there, and only twelve foreign (continental Europe singers). I meant I would have liked them to include Dudu Fisher (Israel) at the concert (not to mention a Spanish singer). Hope that cleared it up for you!

  • Oh there we go...haha sorry about that...i was just confused...and yes i agree with you there should have been more variety!

  • OMG, even the original hungarian Jean Valjean is there...

  • All great Valjeans! Ive only just found this! Many thanks for posting!

The BEST Jean Valjean IMHO from the UK is John Owen-Jones!

    Liz

  • Very Nice... I Enjoyed this...

  • Wow. I recently got to perform as Jean Valjean in May, and to even think of performing next to Colm Wilkinson...Id be overwhelmed. These men are all truly talented.

And yes, Colm Wilkinson is the best Jean Valjean ever to live, and always will be. He IS Jean Valjean.

  • why does the english guy sound american???

  • ok the guy on the Orestraiong cd is the best and its not Colm its sounds like him buts its not.

  • Wales was impressive. I can imagine him in the show.

  • i dont like phil. lauraisme1988 people can and will deny it, it just wont be true. also lol to mimibarthez about the football supports "les miz, les miz"

  • No one can deny it Colm Wilkinson, from Ireland is truely the best Jean ValJean no contest!

  • He actually said 15 and they were 14!!!

  • Henk Poort is the best one... that's the guy from the Netherlands

  • austria guy has some thing wrong cause he alwasy loks up when he sings into a microphone

  • he said 15 when their is only 14

  • ok its weird how this is like the year of the 10th anniversery concert and they all look different

  • welsh guy is good too

  • is there anymore with Phil Cavill longer/full songs

    great voice

  • How dare they chant haha.

  • Football supporters, so uncultured! :)

  • colm and jeff sound the same

  • Colm is overated - Phil Cavil is the best Jean

  • i agree want to see hear more with phil

  • This reinforces the belief that this music is some of the most beautiful ever written. Tears came to my eyes while listening to it, even in unfamiliar languages. This, to me, is incredible!

  • Wow! I LOVE IT! thanks for this video!

  • i saw the play yesterday and france and england is in the middle

  • Personally, I don't like Colm's voice. He sounds forced to me...

  • Peter Karrie looks like Jeremy Irons!

  • Saw Phil Cavill in London prodution, one of the best.

  • just wanna add...jeff leyton rocks too!:)

  • wow! amazing! colm rocks!

  • i did not know that peter karrie played val jean. i loved him as the phantom. but i dont think hes right for this role. I liked either the french guy or colm. i met colm in person and he was the nicest person. he even let me try on his mask. eeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk
