Apparently Yojimbo in Japanese means "Bodyguard" hence why he needs payment to do his damage. You can raise his compatability by doing certain things, even coming down to the answer you give him when you first acquire him. Choose "To defeat the most powerful enemies". for example this raises his compatability. If you get it to max he will start doing free Zanmato or for very cheap.

I read that the following steps are good for a higher chance for Zanmato:

1. If it's overdrive gauge is full

2. Pay him over the 100 gill

3. Yuna and Yojimbo has a special relationship together, so DON'T dismiss him or DON'T pay him 0 gill, and DON'T let him die.

If those 3 didn't happen your chances will be a lot higher to get Zanmato

The only time I ever saw Zanmato when I played X was when I went against Dark Yojimbo. I always thoughti t was sort of cheap, the concept of Yojimbo. Instant kills are what Odin is for, if you want a swordsman look for Gilgamesh. -_-

@TheShadowParliament If you look at it like in depth information, Yojimbo was known for Instant kills, killing everyone with one swipe of his katana (Zanmato, supposedly the sharpest blade ). when Odin was really known for his spear (Gungnir, rumor to start wars by simply dropping it. which is seen in 7 as an alt. attack). Zantetsuken,(Sword of Vengence) never really existed with Odin. But bring back a Dead Samurai was a sweet idea, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Yojimbo is one of the most badass aeons in ff except he drains your entire life savings just for him to use a strong attack. Bahamut gets #1 because he just stares down fiends like Chuck Norris and flys over and pimp slaps people and if he's really pissed he will just shoot giant energy orbs at you!

@ironwolg If you have the international version i heard it is harder-that could be why. I've got the old regular version. Anima had some knasty attacks but maybe it was because anima like many of the aeons were so fantastic in their appearance that maybe kind of turned me off somehow. Anima's special attacks are beast but you have to admit the chains unfortunately make him look like a sitting duck. :(

I'm the only one who's able to get the Zanmato on cue whenever I want. True story.

I paid triple his asking price, never dismissed him right after summoning, paid 0 Gil or let him die. I always paid stupid amounts of Gil, he never once Kozuka'd or Daigoro'd. It was always Wakizashi if it wasn't already Zanmato.

I Already found the way to Activates Zanmato... 1st.you must make Yojimbo Overdrive meter to Full and then pay him with the same way you hire him in Cave of stolen fayth..Trust me it`s works...

I have payed him 10g, 600, 120,000g and he has done Zanmato without a full overdrive on yuna. Paying him high increases the chance of use, however you could pay him 9999999 and he still might not use it. Now having yuna in overdrive increases it quite a bit more. The point is from all the times I have used yojimbo, hes just random regardless of what you pay him. If anyone wants to see him use that move then get yuna to full and pay an pray Good luck!!!

Zanmato is much rarer

in the North American and Japanese versions of the game. For comparison, it's possible to guarantee a Zanmato with AS LITTLE AS 16 GIL in the international version, whereas it's IMPOSSIBLE to guarantee a Zanmato in the Japanese version.

i always use zanmoto attacks on dark aeons coz they got the best items/weapons/armor iusely reset game if i dont get what i want, a holy ring armor for yuna for example ribbon and hp break limit and 2 open slots wich i fill in with auto regen and auto haste if you have this armor on all 3 of your main chacheters notting can stop you olmost but for this you will need to reset game alot until you get sick of it, but once you got one its worth it saves many hours if you where to build one

remember the amount of money you got 150.000 gil let him fight weaker enemy's first give him 50.000 every time so its like only 3 times only ok but you give alot of money on weaker enemy make sure he doesnt uses daigoro only his other attacks this will build good relationship and he uses zanmoto alot if you fight dark aeons but give for example you got 150.000 gil give him all or 145.000 zanmoto succes will be higher

I remember before i bothered taking him seriously i used to pay him 1 gil for that stupid ass daigoro attack and that's all i got. I'd be LUCKY if i got a Kozuka,but NEVER a wakizashi. Not even SINGLE HIT wakizashi.

Once i started taking him seriously and building up his compatibility rating and paying him 1024 each time. I remember once i reaching 99 in compatibility he was doing zanmatos like once every 4 turns. I'm at 121 now. Can't wait till i get max 255 compatibility

I don't remember in the history of the entire Final Fantasy series them ever implementing a move that kills ANYTHING in 1 hit (including bosses). Only moves that kill anything in 1 hit (except bosses).
