  • Adorable. They don't have mouths or stomachs because they only live a week or two and don't eat

  • there so cute where live and i see them alot of them this year to bad thay all got killed :(

  • I just rescud one

and put it in a box with grass

    and gave some sugar water

on a paper towel and its freaking out :S

  • @CyberSodomy Luna Moths don't eat stupid!

  • There are two reasons it doesn't fly off of your hand. 1: it's sleeping. 2: Unlike butterflies, moths do not have compound eyes. Therefore it does not look to them as if one hundred of you are coming toward it. That is why they do not get scared if you go near them. Also, moths have big eyes, meaning great eyesight especially by night :)

The moth is cute by the way. Very furry and it has cute big eyes :D

  • You have a male Luna Moth... at the point you found him, he was dying; they live a short life once out of the cocoon. A week on average. After they mate, they fly away and die. :(

  • its so sad to me cause he looks so tired. The first time i saw one of these was when me and my family went camping, it was bigger then any butterfly i had ever seen, and his wings were flawless. I reached out my hand after calling my parents and sisters over to see what i had found and i pet its furry back, then it flew away like something out of a fairy tale floating through the tall trees. it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. ever since then its been my favorite moth.

  • @LyeLye cool story! I have a Luna moth vid too, check it out :-)

  • Hes adorable.

  • 0:41 / 2:18 So fluffy CUTE, and beautiful! {:D

  • AWWWW look at that cute little fluffy-mothy! {X)

  • lunasatan・・・

  • Poor old guy must have been neer the end of his life already.

  • OMG...its sooo beautiful :3

  • i found one in my back yard but i do not live in north american i live in north carolina but its a caterpillar right now and it has something that is spiky on its but and it looks like a little of a mix ^O^

  • Amazing. I saw one of these flap into my window screen at night. It was the only time I've ever seen one of these little guys. I feel quite lucky! This was in Central CT.

Things are huge! Thought it was a bat at first.

  • i saw one in San Antonio Texas (but in catipillar form), in my backyard...i wish i kept it...

  • the Five-spotted hawkmoth is about the same lenght. Their wingspan are 3 9/16 - 5 5/16 inches

  • OMG that's really beautiful! I wouldn't be scared of touching that:-> but I am scared of the Manduca quinquemaculata moth or Five-spotted hawkmoth.. one time one of them flew inside my house n scared the crap out of my sister and I. eww

  • Wow its so beautiful! It has weird antennas though.

  • It almost looks like it can glow in the dark lol =D

  • you said they don't eat? how do they stay alive then?

  • @SorvahrSpahr I think I read that they only live for a week once they become moths because they don't have mouths.

  • @CelestialSushi that's a big fail for nature eh? xD awesome creatures nonetheless

  • @SorvahrSpahr

They don't stay alive. Their only mission once they become a moth is to have sex and then die. (Serious)

  • They're so beautiful, cute and fuzzy all at the same time ^.^

  • I've got a new light above a full length door. I lie in bed at night and watch the moths attracted to the light. I've seen the luna moth for the third time last night. What a thrill. I opened the door and it flew inside. I got to have a good look at it. Thanks for this video!

  • wow luna moth

peacock moth is also very big

  • when I was 6, me and my sister were sitting in the car at night, waiting 4 our parents. All of a sudden, we saw one of these things crawling up the seat in front of us. We were just about to run out of the car, then it swooped towards us and we both screamed and ran out. We didn't find it again after that...

  • You are so lucky!

I love those things so much.

  • I saw one of these on my back porch. It was just hanging there, never saw one again in my life until this video. I didn't know what to call it, lol I was assuming it was some rare prehistoric insect lol. It was so amazing to see as a kid. Thanks for posting.

  • saw a caterpillar of one of these. bright green, can practically glow in the dark. NOW I KNOW WHERE THE "LUNESTA" COMMERCIALS COME FROM!!

  • Adults don't have mouth as they don't eat and only live for 1 week. So sad and beautiful.

  • All I have are ugly moths that torment you...xD these are actually pretty though =)

  • Sad they live just a week. Mother Nature can be cruel at times.

  • Lucky you! I would like to see one.

  • before i left for college i saw a luna moth caterpillar and we had no clue what it was till i researched it for my essay

  • Beautiful and fascinating creatures.

I wonder what they feed on?

  • They don't eat as adults (moths) as catterpillars they eat leaves I guess...

  • I live in NY and never seen anything like this. Would be nice. We just have ugly Gypsy moths here.

  • I found one in NY. Near Rochester.

  • Wow! thats awesome! :) your very lucky to see it, extremely lucky to hold it! :D

do you know if they live in Belgium? or anywhere in Europe? awesome video XD

  • hum i know abot Luna Moths they r only found in North America............

  • darn it.

    lol.

  • The adults have no mouths. They eat nothing :-(

  • This is true for most saturniid moths. I'm overwintering a male and female polyphemus at the moment.

  • I SAW TWO AT SCHOOL TODAY

  • No you dint shutup.

  • i did i promise but i touched it and got suspended so YAH

  • I have yet to see one, but I hope I do in my lifetime. This one is very pretty.

  • My daughter and I just found one outside on our porch and she freaked! They are huge and scary-looking to little girls. Otherwise, they're beautiful.

  • i didnt pick one up becuase i thought it would fly away or something

howd you get it to just sit on your hand

  • I guess it was just very tired!

  • @damaster77854 If you are very gentle they will let you shepard them onto your hand.

  • WOW WTF

im in tomball texas and i saw 4 of the on a brick wall

My mom and i were walking

    she was afraid of them

this was in plain day at 4:30

    weird because theyre nocturnal

  • no need to be afraid, they dont eat - so no mouth to bite with!

  • I thought if you touch its wings, it dies, is that true?

  • lol, why would something die if you touch its wings? :P... probly if you brake the wings... not if you touch them, i touch moth's of all sorts and butterfly's also, ive never seen or touched a luna moth before D:

  • I've only seen one in my life and it was a female so it was brown.):

  • the fact that the moth isnt trying to escape surprises me lol

  • me and my brother found a moth while playing tennis we caught it and will release it in a few minutes

  • ah, i love luna moths. they're so beautiful and elegant. i wish i could have a trained luna moth. that would be cool and highly impossible. but they are so beautiful.

  • We have tons of those here. Ever night when I come home there will about 8 million moths flying around the outside garage light, and usually I'll find at least one.

  • Saw one tonight, took some great pics. almost the exact same features as this one.

  • there is one of these in the bathroom at Morehouse College

  • aww the only time i ever got to see it was when it was devoured by my preying mantis... all i got to see was its green wings =(

  • it has such a cute face! he has beautiful antennae.

  • Me and my friend caught one last year in Connecticut at a local McDonald's. Unfortunately the container was too small and it damaged its wings while trying to get out. Sorry Luna Moth's Ghost if you are reading this, it was my bad and I owe you.

  • What a beautiful boy. :) Thank you for sharing!

  • the one i had was freakin huge as seen in my vid

  • jesus christ! oo.41 - 00.45 look its got a face! scary

  • That one's a male - you can tell by the big feathery antennae :)

  • i found one on the exact same day! except it was a more brownish color! it was huge, though!
