I won't play a game where I'm not allowed to keep my pistol loaded.
I had a student a year ago who was big into IDPA. He had good skills, but I couldn't get him to keep his pistol loaded. You have to watch the neural pathways that you are burning. Watch videos of how smooth and quickly, without thinking, Jerry Mickulek and Todd Jarret can clear their weapons...
I think you missed the point. Clearing is just for safety during an event with lots of people. It's like that in a lot of places. Your friend not carrying loaded has nothing to do with IDPA....but bad mentality....and can come from a lot of places.
@vigunfighter That's the dumbest reason to not play a gun game I've ever heard. Training scars exist and are something to watch out for, but being proficient at safely unloading and clearing a firearm is not one of them. There's nothing preventing the shooter from scanning the scenario and providing a mental break between shooting and unloading.
You not being able to get a student to keep his carry gun loaded is indicative of a poor mindset, not training scars.
IDPA and USPSA are both SPORTS not training. When you have to agaonize about a milllion little rules it has evolved from training to a sport. IDPA has so many rules it is not funny.
IDPA can be played a sports competition or a scenario based training system for self defense. All depends on how you want to treat it. It can be as real as you make it or it can be just another sport.
@TheFirearmEnthusiast I know they are expanding overseas, and want to continue growing internationally. You should email them idpa dot com and see about setting up something at a local range. If DishD is local to you, I'm sure he'd participate!
@drzmanproject The Firearms Registry don't want to allow it since it is related to self defence. We even had to change our IPSC targets so they wouldn't look like human silhouettes, otherwise they would've banned that too. We might see it in New South Wales if we get another two seats in the Legislative Council.
@drzmanproject Thanks, btw those two seats that we're looking for belong to The Shooters and Fishers Party. We already have two seats at the moment, the shooting sport is definitely growing here lol.
@TheFirearmEnthusiast Wow! what is up with the 2 original English-speaking countries? They have lost their minds in all the liberalism of the modern world. I though no guns and carry knives in England was bad enough, but it seems that the disease has spread to Australia...
I joined the IDPA a couple months ago, it's a blast and only as expensive as you want it to be. There's no way I could afford 900 rounds a day but a match will only be a max of 150 rounds and only comes around once a month. Tons of fun though, had to miss my match this month because I went hunting instead. Way better than just shooting at a range though.
@biguy525 Yeah, a guy at my local range shot 900 rounds in just one day, then came back the next day for some more! At that point, reloading must be essential.

A friend of mine shoots IDPA, he says the only problem is that he shoots about 8000 rounds a year practicing for the matches. Nice video.
