I studied Aikido for nearly a year and I did derive some interesting and useful techniques that can be applied in a street fight situation. However, it is somewhat flawed in it's application due to it's fantasy factor. A real street fighter needs to develop good boxing, karate, and grappling skills in order to be a well rounded opponent able to defend him or herself in a "real" fight. There is too much fantasy in Karate, Kung-Fu, Aikido, etc. No room for that in the real world.
