I was thinking about building a clone out of an s13 coupe. Full powertrain, diffs, ecu, wiring harness, with turbos and all is about 4k, I think that's pretty good compared to buying an engine alone for an American car project. Anybody got any hateful words for that?
Any skyline can be brought over with the proper modifications that meet US safety standards. Motorex was the company making these modifications but do to legal matters (theft ring) they were shutdown. U can buy skylines dirt cheap in Japan but u really spend a lot to get them to the US and modified.

@Lukeentertainment R33's (gts's and gtr's) manufactured between Jan 01 1996 through Jun 31 1998 are the skylines that have been crash tested in America. As long as you have the DOT compliance work an inspection done they can be imported, to my knowledge at least... I haven't read up on it much in the last couple years but as long as nothing has changed in the last 2 or 3 years thats how it is.

@jhi2007 to an extent. we cant legally drive a japan spec one here because of smog and all that, and they dont have VIN numbers but for an extra huge cost you can buy one over seas, have it shipped over here in pieces and then build it and pay a bunch more for extra parts so you can pass smog testing and get a VIN number for it so it can be registered, And of course there are a shit ton of legal things you would have to go through and a bunch of bullshit that make it a hassle.

Actualy you can own them in the U.S. Still originally there were two companies importing r34's but because one got caught not crash testing to standards or lack there of crash testing they got shut down I forget the names but if you google them they should still pop up last I checked it's 100,000$ to have an r34 imported and a 10% military discount which if you ask me dosnt really make a lick of difference it's still far out of my price range :-(

@93gtir because they never were crashed tested so they could meet the U.S. standerds, in the U.S. you have to crash some many cars take what wrong with them and fix on the car to make them more safe. the company who was doing it a long time ago had got closed down because he lied about testing the cars and the goverment started to take them back there is one way you can get them that is if you do it for show and it never touches the road

Safety things as far as i know but doesn't mean it can't be drive it US you can mod it to the safetly standars... I live in PR, USA territory i and saw a GTR R34 in a dealer for sale as far i know it was modded to make it legal.
