  • Lots of Love to Ireland / Luke and The Dubliners from Palestine....

  • This is one of those songs that, because of the solemnity given off by their absolute perfection, I can listen to only in that rare, wonderful state of mind that you have to be in to lie on the grass to gaze at the stars.

  • lieve broer ik hou van jou... Als ik dit hoor moet ik aan jou denken..

Mijn lieve lieve broer voor altijd!!!! XXXX

  • i love this song irish singer that is not with us anymore but his song will live forever be proud of your irish singer because they sang from there hearts and there country

  • will some of these posters fucking grow up and realise legends, you would,nt have your dole if it was'nt for luke kelly.

  • 3 people have no soul

  • If your Irish kind music my mum got me up to be Irish this is all the same.. Patrick From Belfast ireland. love this Being Irish.

  • My favorite song

  • Whoever subtitled this has been quite creative and at times it seems that he/she didn't know English. The combination is really funny.

  • @oskhen85 free translation? :p

  • @BOBLOL00 Hehe, yes, quite. The main content is pretty much the same, though.

  • rephrase - Greatest IRISH song of all time :))

  • greatest song of all time.

  • Ireland on its knees 18/11/10

(1997 - 2010) Burt Ahern, Brian Cowen, Brian Lenihan, FF Party

    r.i.p luke

  • This is so great !

  • who's that red haired devil with a angels voice.

  • by the way wangman why would u hide my post just because my opinion did'nt gel with yours?

  • @ceolnaghra i've no idea why there is a show/hide link above your comment. trust me, i would not be that petty. i love paddy reilly.

  • wangman where can I see Lukes original version?

  • seem we are in a basic agreement how about that.thanks also for additional info,my father told me the stories of the spanish sailors taking refuge in ireland when I was but a wee lad.

  • at last the british have apologised didnt take them long

  • Justice for Derry

  • i <3 the Dubs, this song makes me cry, my family came to england from Ulster to escape persecution. religion causes more problems than it solves, i'm proud of my Irish Catholic heritage but i hate all this sectarian violence in the north, it just makes me sad :(

  • Resist foreign occupation.

  • Thanks for the posting! This is one of my favorite Luke Kelly songs. A pity he left us so young. I think everyone has a town they loved so well, but hindsight is blurry sometimes.

  • Very beautiful song sang by the great Luke Kelly. I love his voice !!

  • One of my Paddy's favorite songs, which he sang often. I buried him in Creggan 2 weeks ago. Home at last darlin. love you. xx

  • oh u really are from there LOL^^ I knew it..

now go and hang yourself english bastard!

  • Great song and a great band!

  • its andy, im not going to even lower myself to your standards.

    merry christmas

  • well its a good song

the lowest form of intellegence is arguing on youtube haha

  • bigsinger1981 speaks wisely here

  • thanks Luke, great music,Derry Londonderry,Who gives a shite, enjoy the music you prick, or FUCK OFF!

  • Hard to belive some people will argue over the colour of their shit. Regards

  • I thought I would never ever say this But Paddy reillys version of this song is better than Lukes, sorry Luke!

  • That would depend on which versions you're comparing. Paddy's 1982 Festival Folk version on YouTube is probably better than this 1980 performance by Luke. But Luke's original 1973 recording is much better than Paddy's 1975 hit single version.

  • @ceolnaghra at the time Luke sang this version, he was already severly ill. A few days or weeks after this performance, on June 30th, he broke down on stage. A brain tumor was diagnosed and he died four years later. So, there are earlier versions of this song by Luke which are better.

  • now ronny and luke make their music in the heaven. what a gain to heaven... rip ronny and luke

  • Amen

  • RIP Luke,It was really nice!

  • a song abt simple times and simple needs, listen to all you tubes talkin shit abt history this and history at, ats why this place its fucked in the head, great people on both sides of the peace line, a fightning spirit rarely seen in anywhere else, you'd do well to understand the lyrics and jus fuck up n listen too it, PEACE. LOVE. HAPPINESS. RIP TROUBLES, shankill rd belfast..

  • see how the celts saved britain it shows we are a much richer and purer race than britons

  • "Celtic Europe" today refers to the lands surrounding the Irish Sea, as well as Cornwall and Brittany on either side of the English Channel.check your geography about europe one kelt or selt or celt the latter english languaged changed hitler was a celt hallstatt region was where celtic society started and that is now known as austria so richer and purer tell me how as they say we all bleed red blood whats the difference the colour of the skin to define if someone is british

  • also the true english language is welsh/cornish and has nothing in common with the saxon/viking/roman/french etc etc etc 'english language that is spoken today so really,uk is just a tiny insignificant sattelite state of europe nothing more nothing less, the irish are purer due to the fact the romans did'nt go there and conquer it

  • a tiny insignificant state that seems to bother every southern irish person and most catholics in northern ireland then how can ireland be pure when the english who are mixed breed went and controled ireland and bred with locals and also spanish invaded ireland and pilfered the women so what is pure about that if you had any sense you would just give up as you cant speak gaelic know nothing about celts nothing about who invaded ireland what about 1690 when king billy was there did they breed

  • @normanc Actually the spanish never really invaded ireland,(OMG)...In the centuries old wars going on between spain and england,it was not uncommon for spanish gallions to be sunk off the coast of ireland by the English. For a variety of reasons, such as contempt for the english and the fact that both spain and ireland put God befor king as both were roman cathlic countrys, the irish took them in and protected them from certain death at the hands of the english, result ,dark haired irish.

  • @stevekon11 i do apologise when i said invaded i should have stated it was like todays polish invasion of uk the armada was chased from england and the spanish ran away and went up the atlantic along the irish coast where about 5000 spanish perished due to rough seas and rocks the survivors stayed hidden in ireland and bred with irish ladies that resulted in spanish children and spanish blood in the irish while the rest of the survivors escaped to scotland

  • and what has ireland got more than any other country travellers and look at them most are inbreeds

  • i can trace a direct line to brian boru last high king of munster, what can you do?direct lineage of britanistan even your monarch is german/greek haha what a joke

  • well mate if you can trace yourself back to Brian mac Cennétig, fair play to you but if you want to boast about a man who made himself king not the people and if you want to boast about a man who from nordic descent if you check the history books which then again would make you a descendant from norway as for my family tree well i never check as for the queen well if she is greek german thats where the celts came from and that makes her more a kelt than you from scandanavia

  • back to yor original post about derry, how can you be so pleased to think it has changed its name to londonderry,in the world view it is nothing,it will no doubt change like leningrad to vladivostock etc etc,,kings were never chosen democratically in the beginning, people just chose between two evils,i could google a million things to refute your argument and no doubt you could do the same,so let's agree to end the grumbling here

  • ok i agree takes bigger men to agree to agree if that makes sense but to be honest it will be derry to some londonderry to others anyhow where are you from

  • believe it or not the UK,

  • thats 2 of us then i live in grimsby originally from limavady moved here just over 2 years ago

  • good luck mate,it's not worth arguing and hatred about, enough suffering has been caused over there and here,we are all one race the end of the day, take care

  • cheers and take care yourself

  • Returned from Ireland three weeks ago. It was my first time there. What a wonderful country! I will return.

This song is on the CD I got. I start shivering when listening to it.

  • you cant but feel emotional when you hear this song... so goddam proud to be irish, so proud

  • Up Th Ra

  • that's not very Irish.

  • how the hell is it not irish.... it will mean different things to different people... for me it reminds me of my uncles and other relation that left for america and england when times were tough!!!

  • I was replying to the poster's "up the ra" statement, not the song, if you were paying attention.

  • so was he

  • no he wasn't.

  • read taramcm then clubhurlers comment then yours??????????????????

  • God bless you Luke, a great irishman

  • irish pride!

  • we sing these song's ,because they are our history lesson's for our childeren ,i grew up in belfast as a roman catholic ,and i know first hand ,what the english bastard's put us threw .69 on the fall's road was no joke.we will never give up our fight for freeedom .tiocfaidh ar la

  • I think he was. This was June 1980. He collapsed on the 30th June.

  • Speak for yourself Liamick. I am Irish and i promote and live our culture and Language everyday.

  • good oul lukey

  • StormyOK67

Check the map of Ireland, Derry IS DERRY!!

  • fuck up you prick

and listen and enjoy the music no need for a big crusade its music not a fuckin history lesson

  • im irish and i welcome muslims to our country peacefull people portrayed as terrorist by british and american imperialist propaganda. they are fighting the fight we fought for 800years. countless time over the 800years of occupation/genocide/terrorism/dehumanization at the hand of the british we ask america for help, everytime shot down. the irish/blacks/chinese/mexicans built america on slave labour.

  • This song is so beautiful...

    All the pain and emotion!

  • We have one life. enjoy it for fuck's sake. Chill out.

  • maybe u don read the bible but some of us do

  • dirty english bastards ruind our country!

  • ur fuckin right about that love.. scumbags.

  • in all fariness we're pretty much english now. copying them with everything,

  • well siad

  • oh am sure u have had some cash with her majesty on it and treasured it and i say as for apprentice boys i cant answer that one and to be honest not that interested in answering although am a protestant and a unionist am not one of those who parades it around i do have cathoilc inlaws AND A DAUGHTER TO A CATHOLIC MOTHER as for referring to old laws am sure we are not the only country that has unlike anything sinn fein refer to in there laws check up and corerect me if wrong

  • Interesting that a Unionist organazation calls itself the Apprentice Boys of Derry. Explain that one??

  • The Associated Clubs of the Apprentice Boys of Derry are a fraternal organisation whose sole purpose is Celebrating the Anniversaries of the Shutting of the Gates and the Relief of Derry, and the famous events of the years 1688 and 1689.

  • Ireland belongs to the Irish. This is not a political song. It is a song that represents the challenges of living in a town where being an Irish Nationalist meant a life of no work, no opportunity etc. However, it represents a love for a hometown. Derry is the name of the town now officially. The British may still "own" it - but time will change that. Londonderry is a long past name. British presence in Ireland will end - of that there is no question

  • i think your just full of bitter hatred the british like yourself and the romans conquered half the world and brought civilisation to where the made home as for the indians whom i think personally are a great nation i dont care what names they call the streets or cities all i know that londonderry will always be that not londondelhi or derry not even oakwood of columba

  • Nope - no bitter hatred. I have a lot of British friends - but I don't support their politics on northern Ireland. I support the political process and democratic process. But the British gerrymandered that for many years. Irish "unionists" are welcome in Ireland but they will have to drop their allegiance to Britian and the Queen. Londonderry no longer exists. It was changed back to its original name Derry through the political process. I don't hate anyone - I just want my country back.

  • lol londondery is londondery and i can recall the courts turning down an appeal for it to be called derry as for it being your country u dont have a clue where ur from cause if u were born in the 6 counties then ur british and if not then u are in the wrong country looking for something u will never have anyhow its hundreds of years of rule and u lost that battle and look at the irish government they dont want the north cant afford to keep us too many priest pay outs for molesting kids

  • Oh - we will have it. Just like we took back the 26 counties in 1922 after 700 years. I know exactly where I am from. I have lived through "The Troubles" Your mighty British Army was never able to contain us for we have pride and determination. You should become really British - wear a turban and open a corner shop selling newspapers. The facts? In 20 years Muslims will outnumber British Christians. Now there is a scary thought for you.

  • well what ever you think i lived in county londonderry for 40 yrs and to tell you the truth the british special forces and the police could have taken out all the terrorist on both sides in one night and thats fact but there would have been to much outcry ayhow checking back they seem to have scarred most of their own peopleas for paki and muslims well i have ben over the border and there seems alot of muslims there so the whole of ireland will be the same and catholicswill be outnumbered

  • @sixmilebridgeandsf ye took nothing back ye acceded to the wishes of the brits, gave in, left six counties behind, collins,de valera, maginness, adams, who will be the next hero, give the so-called republic back to the brits,ye freestater,at least they know how to govern not like the pricks here.

  • and as for unionist having to drop allegiance to the britain and the queen well that dictatorship no irish man living in london has to drop his allegiance to england why he is making british sterling cause there is no work for him in the south of ireland its only been the last 25 years since the south became civalised it was ruled by the catholic church and look what that did ruined everything molested kids kept single mums locked up in work houses and sold the kids shambles

  • Absolutely agree on the Catholic Church. As for no work in the south of Ireland.. Check your unemployment numbers, the U.K. has a higher rate. I'm not asking anyone to drop allegiance to the Queen. Ireland just wants back what is rightfully hers - the 6 Norther counties. And we'll get them back.

  • if you recall the population in the south will be about 7 and a half million in a few years time according to the irish government as far as i van recall there is 4 million now so the rest will be immigrants and most of those will be muslims so u should be scared more than i well in a way safer for the kids the priest wont molest muslims i bet you love spending that cash with the queens head on it anyhow if mr collins had not a been slaughtered by his own then u would have had the counties back

  • We won't have the Muslim problems. We just don't let them in. You brought them home with you.

As for Derry. The name was officially changed in 1984 through the democratic process at local council level. Until a Unionist judge overruled that referring to a 1613 charter. Pretty sad when you have to refer to a 400 year old legislation.

I don't have cash with the Queens head on it. You are making an incorrect assumption that I have worked in the U.K. I never needed to, never wanted to.

  • as for population check back on irish population since the great potato famine the irish population has declined and that was not through death a lone most emigratted and not just to america uk has received over a million and as for a 1.41 percent rise in migrants over the next 12 years will take ireland over 6 millionand surveys show how many muslims are there now 3 percent thqats 1 in every 17 not long till its 3 to 4 if not more and then paddy will be speaking and reading from the qur'an

  • jesus we barely read the bible these day's pal ;)

  • Best thing that ever happened to the Irish was being next to the English, my opinion as neither. What do you say about a maritime people on an island that to my knowledge are the only ones who never figured out how to sail more than a few miles from shore in canoes.

  • Your knowledge is flawed. But with a name like Wolfgang, that explains a lot. Read your history books and stop making stupid satements based on ignorance.

  • For me, this is the best version.

  • in what language are these subtitles?

  • Norweigen.

  • What a muted reaction from the audience. After wiping the tears from my eyes, I would have been up on my feet stomping and clapping and cheering...oooh, if only...

  • never mate the british left southern ireland and if they leave the north the loyalist will never let any name change sure look at the holylands in belfast full of the names of streets in isreal and that was because of the jewish influence but do we hear any complaints there no just cause the great british called it londonderry the nationalist dont like it well its about time you and others realised its only a name and what you make of it its up to the individual

  • Wait until the Pakastanis and Indians start changing U.K. street names. You conquered them and you brought them home with you. Good luck to you - you can have them.

  • yes most of england has roman names anywy, even london is roman origin

  • u men a brillat northern irish song its about londonderry not anywhere in the 26 counties

  • do you hear him mention londonderry in it . Dats got nothin to do with the fact he was a genius from Ireland who cares about 26 or 32 counties anymore one nation you fool

  • Well, he did say "there was music there in the Derry air. A lot of people refaer to Derry as Londonderry.

  • Fuck off you hun bastard......Derry will always be Derry, never the british town you want it to be. It's a shame the I.R.A. didn't get you back during the troubles.

  • its a shame you are brain dead thats how much you know about the troubles and who was shot you idiot londonderry is its name has been 400 years and still will be next 400

  • I know plenty about it and Parnell St. in Dublin used to be called great britian street, but yet it isn't anymore. It's funny how things can change suddenly and names always change with it. Unionism is on the brink of a big split so they say, though republicanism is mainly united. Let's see how many names change then 'eh.

  • The name is Derry officially. And it will be Derry from now to eternity. If you don't like it - fuck off back to England

  • @sixmilebridgeandsf its only derry city, still called county londonderry

  • twat even london was a roman name

  • Yea - but you have a nation of Pakis and Indians - by 2020 they will outnumber and you'll' be a Muslim country

  • i was'nt talking about you derry is derry is derry!

  • takes one to know one and names have to originate from somewhere but it will always be londonderry no matter where it came from so long live roman londonderry

  • it's officially Derry now never mind

  • londonderry is on the road signs even if the council is offically called derry city council its still londonderry by law idiot

  • actually in the republic of eire it is still referred to as Derry or 'Doire' and in derry the signs have been put right by the nationalists

you should know that but they bastardised your name also it should be conchhobair so ye don't even know yourself and ancestors!

  • connor is spelt the british way and if you check the irish phone book you will see it is also spelt this way as for seeing the signs in londonderry cant as am not there and anyhow putting a sign up wont change its offical name as for the republic calling it doire they can call it what they like as the words say republic of ireland then we have northern ireland 2 different countries 1 irish 1 british andif you know your history connor is also scotch but then u dont

  • i know connor is spelt the british way that is because they were too thick to be able to pronounce the gaelic surnames, you should be ashamed to abandon your heritage

and so what if it's official just because some kangaroo court in the uk decided it?erin go brach cead mile doire! and the eastern side of scotland was gaelic in 7th cent the people from northern ireland populated it and took over the picts!!

  • whats wrong with your gaelic bird leave permission and thousand to londonderry yep you are really an idiot as for my heritage i was born in northern ireland am british and always will be as for the british been to thick to pronunce it the irish way i say it closer to the british showing them how to speak and say the words properly say it as u see it

  • ok r.i.p to all that have died

  • legend of a song makes me want 2 go back ti the town that i love so much

    r.i.p luke and ronnie

  • dont forget ciarán

  • ok r.i.p ronnie luke and ciarán

  • and bobby lynch

  • brillant Irish song

  • How touching, I've never seen this version before. Ronnie Drew looks old, grey, although he was only 47 at the time.

  • His hair was very dark, so it went grey very early. He also had a broken hip at this time, which is why he's on a stool.

  • TEDDY !! Yeah....

  • WANK STAIN U AND HIM

  • WOT? kILBURN?? oim ah plaastic Paddy misilf '48 tbsure!♠♠♠

  • Happy Paddy's day from county Kilburn

  • We will give back when you return us the six counties!

  • God, it's painful to sing when you've got a pounding headache. I've done itmyself. Fair play to Luke.

  • One of the most beutiful songs ever and I really love his voice. I´m very happy that I have the privilege to see both Luke and Ronnie in Gothenburg in about 30 years ago.

  • YOUR OLD THATS WHAT THAT MEANS

  • out of all the great songs luke sang, this is easily my favorite.

  • Comment removed

  • Get out NOW!

  • who? the dail?

  • May God cradle you in his arms though God knows you Burned the Candle at Both Ends. God Bless and keep you Luke and your brother Ronnie ( Drew)

  • "Shitty" song??? Dude, you've GOT to be kidding me. It's absolutely entrancing and lovely.......nothing like we experience here in the States. Damn, if he's not at his best, then his best must be incredible!!

    .

  • Comment removed

  • yeah but you don't call this song shitty just because luke is ill, that guy is a fuckin idiot

  • I`m with you,we`ve been lucky to have had them here all these years - Luke,John,Ronnie,Paddy,Ciaran,Barney et al.They have been the best Folk group ,along with the Seekers, that we have ever had.I still like Jim Reeves though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh it truly was.. but still no other version sung by another singer can come even close to this..

p.s.:please count that he had a big tumor in his brain on that day and think twice before commenting... (this "p.s" isnt for you MattinTexas)

  • Is this concert on DVD, by any chance?

  • ahh sure not at his best but who gives a rats arse! its Luke thats enough!

  • In my opinion this is the way this song should be sung. Even though Luke is in poor health here, it's his best version.

  • Lovely song very beautifully sung by LK

RIP Luke, such a shame he is gone, so sad.
