That J1a is an awesome engine. I've been an MTH guy for a while, but Lionel just has it all over MTH when it comes to sound systems. I have the same smoke problem. My layout is in a basement room with only one window at the opposite end, and therefore no air circulation. Chokes me up after about ten minutes, so I run smokeless. Are you running command control? Do you control the TMCC engines through your TIU? I had lots of problems figuring that out, but now it seems to work OK.
@bluecomet390 The Lionel J1A is a legecy locomotive and it is being controlled by Lionel legacy command. The MTH Dreyfus is being controlled by MTH DCS. My track power is controlled by a series of Lionel 180 watt power bricks which are controlled by Lionel TPC 400's. Two 180 watt power bricks per loop.
@bluecomet390 Once the power comes of the TPC 400's it then fed into the MTH TIU. From there the power is fed to a power port and then to the rails connected in several locations throughout the layout for even power distribution. There is connection or interface cables or wires with the Legacy command base and TIU. There is no need to.
@bluecomet390 I control all Lionel engines with the legacy CAB-2 handheld control and MTH engines the the DCS hand held control. I have three Lionel cab-2 handhelds and two MTH DCS handhelds to allow more than one operator to run trains once. Lionel, MTH Atlas-O we run them all side by side on my layout.
@MrEngineergeorge Just so I'm clear, you can connect a Legacy/TMCC Control Base independently of a TIU to the same track, without the signals interfering with one another?
Very nice!! I used to get the same complaints about the smoke. Just turn the smoke on high and sooner or later they will get used to it. Or at least stop complaining.
Yeah two of my videos have my Virginian engine in them. It is my only legacy engine, but like i said im just getting started :). Model Railroading is a very fun hobby.
GOTTA LOVE IT!!! Just awesome to watch that smoke billowing out of those cylinders! My buddy just got the new Milw Rd 267 and it is just jaw dropping to say the least!
The smoke from the cylinders is very impressing! That is really cool!
