I hate the heckling laughter of the audience after she tries to light'n the mood. Takes guts to be up there in front of people telling your story, I've spent all my life with dyslexia and it's no cup of tea! I was almost in tears myself when he began to cry, because I know just how that feels. I may have missed out at high school but I'm now larning graphic design and advising my lecturers at university how they should work around me :) be strong you can effect your own reality.
well when people tell him he's stupid just because he can't read or write that's stupid.Everyone has different things that are able to do and not able to do.For instance,he can make those boots.Should he call someone who can't do it stupid?Of course not anymore than a person who can read or write should call him stupid. But if they want to be stupid for not seeing that and call him stupid..well then thats too bad for them
it's just gotta be so frustrating for him. how can it not be? its a HUGE challenge to turn something like this around and help someone like this see the bright side of it. i must say, i realize just how much we take reading for granted tho
i think he got more then just dyslexia. he seems to have a hard time comprehending the questions. perhaps he is nervus as well.
i have to say that i rely hate that hag. some of the questions was rely fuzzy, which makes it hard for him to give a direct answer. and then she imply that he is stupid by saying "other then your thinking how is your body"
i agree, i think she was really confusing him! she had me confused! this poor guy, she was definately being a bit harsh...i just wanna give him a hug!!!
Byron Katie is not making fun of this man. She is coming from a place of clarity that enables her to see the humour in how we torture ourselves with our own thinking. If you do not 'get' this kind of humour that is fine but it is a mistake of perception to think that she is making fun. Byron katie comes from a place of compassion and understanding. To call her a 'bitch' is a result of your own projection....turn it around and see where your own truth is. Are you a bitch?
I'm I? Well, I wish the shoe was on the other foot. I stand by my word. Let's see how she would deal with his inability. Also, she is pushing this man for her own ego.
If that makes me a bitch, than so be it. Put her in her own hot seat and probe her about something like the death of a loved one, and tell her.... Now, turn it around... bullshit!
No.She's not making fun of the man, she's trying to help him. That's why he is there. If he wasn't there,he wouldn't want to be "probed&questioned"as you put it.He is there because he is willing to question his thoughts and perhaps change his perspective because he is tired of feeling bad.Otherwise,he would not be there..and that would be fine too
This is one of my favorites. It's very nice to see someone let go of some bitterness about something that wasn't their fault, and to not see his dyslexia the way everyone else does.
You probably have some talent that makes up for it though and the extra work you have to do to get around your disability will make you a more disciplined, harder working person. In the long run you may find that you've gained an advantage over other people because of the disability.
Hi A trial has been carried out at Staffordshire uni by Mr David Hillidge his finding have shown that my hypothesis is correct go to Youtube put in The Primary Cause of Dyslexia.
A given language is taught with disregard to preference meaning a right to left scanner would not develop dyslexia if the text was in there preferred scanning direction. This is confirmed by the development of the Greek language between 1000BC to 550 BC and in particularly Boustrophedon.
Excellent snapshot of how dyslexia can affect a person. Also I note how courageous this man is in openly displaying his 'difficulty'... Dyslexics are differently abled not disabled, though they do fall foul to the aggressive people in society. When someone says are you stupid when you ask them to spell something, my reply to them would be..'Look if you can't spell it just say and I'll ask someone who can'. GOOD LUCK TO ALL DYSLEXICS.
I like the way of Kate Bron's and way of thinking. the other person to help themselves to self teaching, also self motivate himself. But I don't agree with some negative work she doing with turning it into entertainment of the audience witch his giving this 42 yr old mixed messages in my opinion its really unfair on him. I personally think myself anyway.
oh yeahh. rrg i was looking for it in Loving What Is, and i couldn't find it; i remember reading it though, so i thought, 'oh it must be in another book.' but i returned the book A Thousand Names For Joy to the Library so I couldn't read along hehe.

This woman is a bitch. I feel for this man, perhaps if she was in his boots she would not make fun of this man.

If this "work" helps other people, great, but I don't get her, it just does not make sense for me.

I would love to know what kind of profession Peter is in...one where he uses his amazing talents.
Does anyone know?

A 42-year old man discovers, that he doesn't need to read and write to live his life, that he's even better off without it.
A great example, how powerful The Work of Byron Katie ends up every stressful thought.
Thank you so much for this great Work!
