  • Lovely cars. Such a shame to see just a few of these survive now.

  • @Woolymatt The "How Many Left" website indicates that there are 50 GS models on the road in the UK and 36 GSAs at the end of 2011.

  • I was on the idea of having one of this unique cars again (can`t forget my GS, he saved my life with a blown left front tire I didn`t noticed what happened until I stopped to check) but the spare parts here in Argentina are very hard to get, not to mention specialist to fix that so I desisted to have one for now. I still look to this videos with nostalgy. Is it just me or they are really beautiful?

  • The first car my wife and I had on our return from Cyprus in 1974 was a GS Club in acid yellow. We drove over 70,000 miles all over Europe and loved it. We changed up to Mercedes-Benz, and NAV460P went to someody else to love....

  • It's a great pity Citroen pulled out of the North American market when it did. These cars would have been very popular during the gas crunch of the early 70's when all Detroit had to offer was the Vega and the Pinto.

  • They rusted away.....but one or two are discovered each year in a wide range of condition. There are about 20 GSs and 40 GSAs on the road in the UK and this figure ties in with the 2007 MOT data that was published as a result of a Freedom of Information Act query on MOT data by the BBC.

  • Yep, yep, fair enough.

The GSA was a little faster. Looked much more modern - as was the fashion for plastic bumpers! The dashboard was a necessary upgrade from GS to GSA and those Dials - They were amazing in the GSA!

I loved the flashing choke warning lamp. I loved the satellites!

    Where did they all go?

  • I have one of each: the GS has a better, more comfortable ride than the GSA [but the GSA is super compared with most modern cars] and the 1222cc engine is very smooth in our GS. The GSA hatch is more practical than the GS saloon; the heating and ventilation is far superior on GSA with the central air vent and 3-speed fan. The GSA steering also seems heavier even though both are on the correct Michelin tyres.

  • Wonderful. Brings back some fond memories of a great car. Fun to drive, easy to drive and well, just a great sounding engine.

I reckon we could have a hot debate on which is better; the GS or GSA.

I like the GSA better for quite a few reasons - and I've had both.

Don't forget to blip the throttle just before pulling away...!

  • I have a Citroen GS Club estate from 1977, it is used every day and is a great car.

  • my mom had a GSA x1 , still in her heart...

  • but most cars rotted away in the 70`s, not just Citroens. I had BX`s, an Ami and a Couple of Dyane`s all original fresh thinking that actually worked. In fact the original BX dashboard was so intuitive to use it was a thing of true genius design.

You are a lucky guy to have two of these motors, i am seriously thinking of heading off to France to pick up an Ami estate this summer - keeping my eye on french ebay.

  • @jonno827

I agree with your comments on rust and experienced plenty of rust on products from BL, Rootes, Fiat, Renault, Honda and even VW was not immune.

  • when did Citroen go so very wrong!, wonderful cars these. Their idea of different today is the decidedly dodgy DS3. Utter rubbish.

  • @jonno827

I agree that the GS and GSA are wonderful and have one of each to drive when there is no salt on the road. However, the DS3 will not rust with the same propensity as a GS/A and its interior will not rot or fade with sunlight to the same extent. There are motoring journalists who rate the DS3 higher than some of its rivals!

  • Some real beauties !

  • We had GS-A back in 1996 to 2002 or 03 if I remember correctly and it was a great car, it was just like the one on this video at 3:02 and I also agree that GS was nicer than GS-A.

  • I was surprised but flattered to see my GS Basalte on here !

  • Very nice, the older the better for the GS-the GSA was slightly less pleasing to the eye. RIP DHP800Y

  • I agree, the older GS's were much nicer.

  • classic masterpiece! 5 stars

  • T reg GS is sweet.
