@69peeweeherman I started with the FDOC at 37 years old. No you dont have to have prior Law Enforcement. The pay is mediocre I was an electrician before this. Im just a simple man trying to put food on the table and come home alive. I work at a psych camp . we house Inmates that have very sick minds. Ive had urine and feces thrown at me. The general public never heres our side to any story. The public bases there knowledge of a C/O on what these POOR POOR inmates and there families tell them.
Correction officers can be dirty and low down just like te felons they watch over, or abuse, which ever you call it. if they had been busted for the wrong they have done in their life, they would be behind bars too. I hate florida prisons, and co's. i do not trust them. By the way, my son is doing 10 years for pawning stolen jewelry, he was railroaded.18 yrs old. he made a mistake, needed help. where is that help. your creating a kid who has no hope because of twisted CO's.

Whoa, all the heated comments... I just wanted to say I enjoyed the videos. My fiancé is at AVPCI. Of course, he doesn't like it. But as a visitor, I found the staff respectful and pleasant for the most part, and I appreciated his introducing me to the warden.
With that all said, @TheJDFLA, I think you deserve to be mugged by the same sort of criminals who my dad keeps in line 5+ days a week, year-round. Not that I wish that anything violent happen on anyone, but obviously, you don't appreciate the work these correctional officers put towards keeping you safe from murderers and thieves, so you must want something bad to happen to you, right? And, in spite of all that, he NEVER complains to me or any of my family about what he puts up with.
He went through a lot of tests to get his job in the first place, and has worked hard and almost been killed several times on the job to help his family and work his way up to becoming a Sargeant after many years of service thus far. He puts up with a lot of shit in there -- he's told me about the gangs of 50+ people that once surrounded him when he was all alone. Psychos that like to show off pictures of their mother who they blasted in the face with a shotgun. Dealt with a few riots, too.

The Florida DOC is currently seeking people who have no other options due to their lack of basic intelligence or any learned education. He lives 3,000 miles away from his entire family, who resides in the Pacific Northwest, while he lives in a dormitory just outside the prison with painted brick walls and no kitchen.

I used to work at Tallahassee Road Prison back in the mid 90's. They just broke ground on Wakulla, and the Central Office crews were run out of T.R.P. I drove a "Big Yellow Truck" (5 man DOT work squad) Keep safe and go home to your families every night!
