  • Pet Sounds is considered one of the best R&R albums. It's of the same caliber as a Beatles album, but goes in a different direction. If Smile had come out when it was intended, before Sgt. Pepper, maybe musicians would have been influenced by it as they were by Sgt. Pepper. There is mutual respect among the Boys and Beatles alike. Musicians hear different things in songs. We hear things that inspire us. I have been inspired by Beach Boys and Beatles, but in different ways. It's all great music.

  • Brian Wilson was and is a very talented man. Paul and John always payed him respect. In fact Paul's favorite album is Pet Sounds. But even Brian will tell you that The Beatles were the best at what they did. Nothing Brian ever did will compare to SGT Pepper or Abbey Road Brian said that himself.

  • All the hype, such as in Wikipedia, "The Beach Boys challenged The Beatles both in terms of commercial and critical appeal." The arrogance to assume they were as good as the Beatles! Then the hype about this opus, "I'm gonna make the greatest album! The greatest rock album ever made!" So I listened to all this Smile stuff on YouTube. Good Vibrations was the only decent song. But the falsetto voices of the Bum Boys, like the BeeGees, sounds too effeminate and poofy for my liking.

  • @denSwagman get in touch with your feminine side then!

  • @denSwagman you know nothing...Paul said that Smile was the album that influenced Sgt. Pepper's. Paul can even be heard chewing carrots in the original version of Vega-Tables...So get off that The Beatles were all sanctimonious trip. The Boys (especially Brian Wilson) were just as proficient musical geniuses as the Liverpool Boys...WOW...Get an education before you post inanities.....

  • @sexyma403 Pet Sounds inspired Sgt. Pepper and Paul gives it out to friends. He calls it "required listening". No one heard Smile BEFORE Sgt. Pepper. Get an education before you post.

  • @denSwagman You are in a very tiny minority with your opinions.

  • Our Prayer was really, really, really good.

  • smile is a marterpiece

  • I agree, Beautiful harmonies!...5*s..

  • what beautifull harmonies. true genius

  • I was there for this, if you looked over the bowl there was a huge illuminated cross on the hill not to far away. With Our Prayer and the state of the night, one could have very well been moved by a religous experience. Made me believe for a few minutes.

  • Our prayer?Gee is amazing. It just blows my mind with warmth.

  • Their was no "Gee" performed.

  • @jimet409 Why not?

  • I saw SMiLE on October 4th 2004 in Ann Arbor Michigan. It truly was a once in a lifetime treat! Brian Wilson is one of the greatest composer/performer/arranger of the 20th century. I do believe that SMiLE today is so much better than it would have been with The Beach Boys. Mike Love especially hated it and without their support, it just couldn't have been as good. Brian now has a band that loves him and respects his amazing talents. That makes all the difference in the world!

  • God I was awak in the airforce than but i'm from detroit near annarbor but at that time I was listening to Smile almost constantly, I TRULY TRULY TRULY love Brian Wilsons music and it has thankfully been the music in the background or should I say forefront of sooo many important events in my life. He is one of a kind TRULY.

  • Reminds me a bit of Dewey Cox's Black Sheep.. who made the original? Hard to say.

  • that whole segment of the film is a parody of Brian's SMiLE era. in fact brian's smile collaborator Van Dyke Parks wrote black sheep.

  • @dbor009 Like Bob Dylan, maybe Brian Wilson sounded like Dewey Cox!

  • Our Prayer/Gee is really a treat, amazing song. However I prefer the original with the Beach Boys, but the new Smile version is also really great and rewarding to listen to. Thankful that Brian finished Smile

  • This was a great show! I was there too and I have some videos of the show posted. Is it me or when they talk about SMiLE right before this song, does someone in the band say "Download it."? haha Sounded like it to me at the show and it seems like you can really hear it at the beginning of this recording. haha anyway, awesome night!

  • "Down low" I think.

  • I was there for this, it was...amazing! the best part was during Our Prayer and looking towards to the right to that huge glowing cross on the hillside. I'm not a religious person but at that moment I was close to god thanks to Brian. Amazing show...just wish he played the whole concert with the LAPH Orc, you know, done more Pet Sounds and SMiLE songs...but oh well, seeing Brian regardless of what he plays is always a treat and an honor. Thanks for posting this vid.
