I got this game! :D, bringing back some really good old memories. At first when I played it I didnt understand it that well I was around 8-9 years old. I tried to buy as many units without caring to build the resource buildings necessary. This resulted in it showed 1000 days to next Ironclad cruiser.

The only trouble with this game was if you started to get the winning edge it was always certain to end in a victory or vice versa. Bloody good fun though.

I buyed the martian telescope research by the surveilence category, but soon I finded out that it was a waste of research time, I still dont know how can I use it, or what is it good for in the first place.
At some point in the game when I were desperately low on oil I had a large force and were about to attack the enemy territory but I were unable to do so, was it because of the lack of fuel (oil) ? Is it the same with the martians ? Strangely my armada were able to travel anywere else other than martian occupied land. Maybe they were just cowards, who know.
I need a big help here I am having trouble maintaining my production cause I always run out of either iron, coal, or oil (mostly the last) but I am still not sure wich one is used for what, and when does it get substracted from my storage, all I know is that oil has to do something with my vehicles.
@omlas6 i believe the production and everything was due to the amount of tanks you have in a zone so if you had alot of tanks in one area then everything would be slow as fuck and if there barely anything there then it would produce faster also i think part of the land has a set amount of iron and coal and what not so that slows everything down to either way this game was near impossible without cheating

@omlas6 Some sectors have more a specific resourse than others, for example, Dover, Wales and Southampton are rich in oil, London, Cotworlds, Oxford have coal, iron and coal improves your production efficiency so I recommend you to build build and build Iron, coal and oil facilites away from the frontilne.

Being a fp shooter guy, this type of game has largely escaped my interest. Yet it's an intriguing concept of strength of numbers vs strength of force.
Did they ever patch this game? they needed to fix the bad tracking of the Tripods, i hated it when they got stuck and sometimes they liked to turn 360 on the spot several times before engaging.
u need to get the patch at "abandonsocios" web page its in spanish but it works fine, the downside of the patch is that there will be no music. it even works on windows 7.
from what it looks like, it would seem to be a mix similar to that of Total war city building part of the game, with C&C red alert battles, which are both awsome

Which side are you playing as? To be honest, I figured out how to play this game mainly from looking online at walkthroughs and managed to download a copy of the manual years back to play it.

This is in game music. It works when you install thi sgame on Computers prior to Xp but every machine after that doesnt play it. Sure you get the songs in th emedia player but the whole in-game experience used to be enhanced by the dynamic music, and martians had it as well. Map screen music, attack music and defend music. I hope someone comes up with a fix one day.

Emmm, know its kinda an old post. Anyways, to run it in XP, just right click on the icon, properties (don't know how it is spelled...) then choose compatibility, enable compatibility for win 95. :-)
The probable reason the game won't work is that it's not compatible with Windows XP... Try playing it on a computer with Windows '98 or 2000 installed... ;-)
I have an XP Pro SP3 system with Realtek Hi Def 8.1 onboard sound and an 8600GT NVidia card and can run this fine in win98 compatibility - and it still rocks today! All very well saying the AI is dumb - but if you don't get the Human strategy right the Martians will slaughter your human troops and citizens!

I just rushed them and took as much ground as i could take, they had far too little territories to build an effective attack force but I had a whole bunch of regions. i kept the heat on them while reinforcing my own territories. and when i was sure they were out of forces-after an attack- i Couterattacked them and took 3 regions, repeated that strategy till they we're out of luck. :D
It would rock my world if War of the worlds 2 (Game) would be made :)
The AI is quite dumb in this game, as they attack with small forces. Sure, they put up a cool dogfight but one wave after another they will be stopped with enough defence :P
One fact remains; The music in War of the worlds game is the best game music ever!
The AI is pretty dumb idd, but if u give them too much time they'll start sending in weapons that can really punch a hole in your defence. same goes for martians, the humans will start really enormous rushes that, despite the fact that they really just roam around the map, can prove a real challenge. Yea a remake would make me happy 2

Its called "The Fighting Machine" which is a remix of the original album, you can only find on the PS1 game (I think), Im not sure, but you can find it on the PS1 game
Haven't got this PC version,but I do have the PS1 version of War of the Worlds.The PS1 version is not bad,(not as complex as the PC)and it is more action based orientated.But it gets a bit difficult in the later stages.I only managed to complete it with a lot of effort.PS1 rating 7 out of 10.Could do with a new version for PS2/3 perhaps!
They should have made an FPS game of war of the worlds, you play as the marines/SAS/soldiers (whatever they were in the story) and gun down some alien asses
The Royal British army at that time... ;-) Heck, they didn't even use tanks back then... So Wells's vision of motorised battle vehicles (like the martian tripods themselves) was true sci-fi at the time he wrote WotW.
i finish this with human easily :D without cheats but i have some difficulties with martians but.... i prefer fight still with humans i love the defense with many cannons!!!
the humans also seem able to go over the 5 ship maxiumum but i used to just blow up the base first usually only using one unit. then before the 20 days to build a new base chuck a load of fighting 2nd or 3rd gens in to kill the tanks nd ships. black dust is brilliant on bases but doesnt seem to work on ships

I have done it With Martians, I based it on very heavy defence. Its also best to have a front line reinforced, and the territories behind that reinforced.
This was a briliant game. probably my fave from the 90's along with Dungeon keeper!

Thats the point, you use the balloons to sight for self propelled guns or your ships.
The bombs were only a self defense measure.

Try HyperCam 2 :) It should work. BTW fantastic video, sad because of that quality, but you putted here ,,Brave New World" and ,,The Fighting Machine" - the two tracks I have been looking from some time ;] 5 stars of course!

Did the remix songs come on the CD. Because i bought it, and when i go on to the menu, and try listen to the songs on that, but they don't work. :(
i also tried to find them on the cd, but they are well hidden if they are on there. Any help much appreciated!

You can listen the songs whit your CD-player. I have the game too but it don't work for some reason. :(

Emmm, know its kinda an old post. Anyways, to run it in XP, just right click on the icon, properties (don't know how it is spelled...) then choose compatibility, enable compatibility for win 95. :-)

The probable reason the game won't work is that it's not compatible with Windows XP... Try playing it on a computer with Windows '98 or 2000 installed... ;-)

I have an XP Pro SP3 system with Realtek Hi Def 8.1 onboard sound and an 8600GT NVidia card and can run this fine in win98 compatibility - and it still rocks today! All very well saying the AI is dumb - but if you don't get the Human strategy right the Martians will slaughter your human troops and citizens!
And a big HEY! for one of the few games based in Great Britain!

There does exist a 3rd party patch to make it work on XP. It works perfectly fine as far as I can see except that you can't play the music ingame.

It's a patch hanging around on the internet somewhere. If you search hard enough you should find it. I've forgotten where it is, but I'm sure you know how to use the internet.

The best tactique to win: Wait, Research, Defend. Don't build offensive units until you get the actual "fighting machines".
And last but not least, when you attack, do it with a massive force. (And cover with artillery from the sea.)
Works for both of them technologies ;)

I just rushed them and took as much ground as i could take, they had far too little territories to build an effective attack force but I had a whole bunch of regions. i kept the heat on them while reinforcing my own territories. and when i was sure they were out of forces-after an attack- i Couterattacked them and took 3 regions, repeated that strategy till they we're out of luck. :D

It would rock my world if War of the worlds 2 (Game) would be made :)
The AI is quite dumb in this game, as they attack with small forces. Sure, they put up a cool dogfight but one wave after another they will be stopped with enough defence :P
One fact remains; The music in War of the worlds game is the best game music ever!

The AI is pretty dumb idd, but if u give them too much time they'll start sending in weapons that can really punch a hole in your defence. same goes for martians, the humans will start really enormous rushes that, despite the fact that they really just roam around the map, can prove a real challenge. Yea a remake would make me happy 2

This is War of the Worlds as it should be. Set in post-Victorian era Great Britain. NOT set during the Red Scare. NOT set during post 9/11.
I remember my father having an old reel-to-reel(what the hell is that?) of the musical. That "Ulla Ulla" bit scared the ever living crap outta me when I was young.

Its called "The Fighting Machine" which is a remix of the original album, you can only find on the PS1 game (I think), Im not sure, but you can find it on the PS1 game

Haven't got this PC version,but I do have the PS1 version of War of the Worlds.The PS1 version is not bad,(not as complex as the PC)and it is more action based orientated.But it gets a bit difficult in the later stages.I only managed to complete it with a lot of effort.PS1 rating 7 out of 10.Could do with a new version for PS2/3 perhaps!

The Royal British army at that time... ;-) Heck, they didn't even use tanks back then... So Wells's vision of motorised battle vehicles (like the martian tripods themselves) was true sci-fi at the time he wrote WotW.

i finish this with human easily :D without cheats but i have some difficulties with martians but.... i prefer fight still with humans i love the defense with many cannons!!!

the humans also seem able to go over the 5 ship maxiumum but i used to just blow up the base first usually only using one unit. then before the 20 days to build a new base chuck a load of fighting 2nd or 3rd gens in to kill the tanks nd ships. black dust is brilliant on bases but doesnt seem to work on ships

I have done it With Martians, I based it on very heavy defence. Its also best to have a front line reinforced, and the territories behind that reinforced.
