screw what everyone says, you did a good job. and if they don't like it, they don't have to watch it. you have a very pretty voice, and your czech is pretty good. keep up the good work and just watch your breath support, and with your jaw on long vowel sounds
your acting was pretty bad but not terrible. You really need a lot of work vocally. I think you should be singing more coloratura roles right now and starting off with easier things. But I must commend you on your diction! Very nice! Keep working!
@chokkan2 If that's your only complaint...then just shut up. Cutting down tall poppies just proves ones own insecurity. She's made a very brave attempt at quite a difficult song. Singers don't come fully-fledged off the shelf, you know - there's heaps of work in technique, repertoire, and yes, culture. I'm sure she meant Czech the language - for someone who has probably never been to that part of the world, it's an easy mistake to make, especially given the paucity of education these days.
@droxina Yes, that is my only complaint because I cannot say a bad word about the rest. She sang it very well and also her pronuncation is quite good.
I made the comment because when you are singing in public and you want to present the song, you should also do some research first. If I am right, she is saying that the song is in Czechoslovakian. That language does not exist and never existed. So that just proves that her knowledge is very limited.
@chokkan2 well, we all know that a lot of americans are bad at geography. an old european joke goes: "war is god's way of teaching the americans geography". haha
the pleasure and feelling to sing or play beautifull music, not for virtuosity but for passion is something wonderfull. The art and beaty is for everyone.congrats.
You have a very pretty voice. Good breath control and interpretation. In the world of opera you are only a baby to be singing such a complex aria. Most opera singers are well into their 30s before they would sing this in public. I can tell that you have practised for many hours. Well done, keep singing.
Really pretty interpretation. Just watch, sometimes on the high notes, you tend to go a bit sharp. You have such potential, but it'll take time, you'll be really amazing once you get there. Keep singing
Well, what I want to say about that high note - it's quite easy to sing it very long, because it is sung on forte fortissimo - which means, very loudly. It helps to keep the sound.
I really dislike the high "b" note on that video, because the sound is very fragile, even sung with the microphone.
I guess you don't sing legato - the tones are too sdeparate. Also, you have quite bad intonation on the higher notes. Just try to sing more simple arias, for example "caro mio ben" by Giordani. You have really beautiful voice color, so I'm sure it would sound great :)
Absolutely gorgeous. I speak Czech - your pronunciation is fine...as someone else here has said: Dvorak would have fallen in love with you and your singing. This, btw, is my favorite aria of any opera
I read your comments made to a 17 year old young woman singin this complex Dvorak song. The one thing that struck me was you never backed up what you said. Therefore I will tell you a Fact of Life.
The suppressing of ideas or talent never succeeds in making them go away, ever. But what it does do is simply bring "you" down that uncomfortable level of scorn in the eyes of all observers.
delicate and subtle voice as it should be for this aria.
very clear diction!! even though i understand nothing i can repeat every single word. famous sopranos don't care here because they probably think it will be forgiven for them since this is Czech language. but you beat them. bravo!
moreover i know how hard is to sing to the microphone holding it in your hand when you've got an opera voice to command.
wish you luck and many possibilities to sing it with the orchestra one day! :-)
tressa 13...shame on you. she's obviously a young singer who will get much better with time.
tressa 13, perhaps you are an amazing singer, but you have an ugly, primadonna attitude and even though you may get hired in operas, nobody truly likes your snooty ass. i bet you have no friends, and the ones who are nice to you, only fear you or talk behind your back. you are a nasty bitch.
I am going to have to agree with PonselleLover and AmbularNYC. You have potential to grow, with the help of a good teacher, choosing suitable repertoire, and taking care of your voice. Keep singing!
Im sorry, its just not ready.. you are good though. id love to hear you singing that aria from the Marriage of Figaro. Voi Che Sapete! youd be great at that!
You're obviously a beautiful girl, gifted with a beautiful bright soprano voice. But right now, your voice is too light to face so dramatic a repertoire and you still lack the diaphragmatic breathing technique that would avoid these sometimes straight and strident sounds - your breathing is too shallow and you sustain with the neck. But the cantabile, the slancio and the emotion in the rendition were really promising for your future.
You have a beautiful voice! BUT I am going to have to agree with everyone who is advising you to take a step back and work on some easier stuff first--like 24 Italian songs and arias. It's mentioned so often for very good reason.
I think you'll be wonderful on this someday, when you are ready to tackle harder rep.
Keep training!
And one more note: ALWAYS be nice, you never ever know jusr who you are talking to!
I think your wonderful! This song is SO beautiful, and i know how hard it is to learn it in czech.I hope i can sing as beautiful as you when i am 16 (i'm 13)
Congradulations on all your hard work, and your beautiful voice!!!!!!
Being "mainly self trained" I'm sure your a legend in your own mind. When you finally get to post a video, others will be able to judge if you're a soprano (good or bad), not you. If your going to try for Idol you should loose "a few" pounds and gain a few friends. Either way - you sound like a bitch.
I'm sorry, but you can ask anyone. It's not my opinion that I'm amazing, it's theirs. As soon as I'm able to get videos on I'll let you know. And I didn't post that you suck only from my opinion, but from everyone else around me who also heard it. This song is one of the most beautiful in the world, and I am getting absoluetely sick of amateurs such as yourself thinking they are good enough to sing it.
I asked all my neighbours-they never heard of your AMAZING voice! So who are "anyone & everyone" and their credentials to pass constructive critical comment? If you can't afford a video camera maybe you could borrow one, it should only take an hour or so to post your "amazing" voice and then "anyone & everyone" can really make up their own minds!
It is a beautiful aria-maybe you should show everyone how to sing it then all the amateurs on youtube could stop posting just in case it upsets you
tressa13, it's SO obvious that you are simply jealous of her and thus trying to bring her down. She's got an amazing voice and you won't get anywhere (near a big stage) by whining on youtube.
Babyrhibubble, you go, girl. Don't listen to envious people telling you you're not good enough to sing this aria.
I love your performance, you've got a wonderful voice. It's sending shivers up my spine... and that happens only when I listen to something exceptional. I play piano, I'm not a singer (was taking voice lessons only for 4 years) but keep it up, you're amazing. I hope to see/hear more of you in the future.
Final remark... it's not in Czechoslovakian (there is no Czechoslovakian language, it's either Czech or Slovak), and this is in Czech ...I can tell, I'm from Slovakia (but Dvorak was Czech)
wonderful!
Ignore the jealous and misguided and reach for greater heights

Great Czech, gorgeous voice but all over the place, many times too sharp or too high but with a great teacher she could be amazing.
Her voice is so rich and strong but it needs lots of schooling.
The micro holding and acustics are horrendous!!!
She has a lot of promess and lots to give.
