Wow, I have been searching all over the internet for a short and precise tutorial on this, and finally I found it. Thank you so much mister for helping me out. :3
This help quite a bit. I have a question though. When you export a UV Layout, you said you can load it into GIMP. Can it also be loaded into Photoshop?
You do NOT need to apply it as a texture in the texture panel. :) Just like in Blender 2.49 and previous, you need to turn on "Face Textures" in the material panel for them to show up on render. Just thought I'd put that out there! Bai!
Thank you very much. You've helped clear up a lot of problems I've been having with UV mapping in Blender 2.5 that have been causing me to tear my hair out. Your tutorial cleared the basics up very well. None of the other tuts I'd found to date have been able to do that.
Good tut thanks for the effort.. just now starting to use blender been using other 3D stuff for years... I am totally blown away by the openess of the Blender community...
I think it is obvious to anyone paying attention that this is the direction that software and frankly many business services will move in the future... that is a certain introductory percentage of 'Freeness' rather than cash on the barrel head at the beginning of the business relationship...
@norvman It´s happens to me the same. I used Maya about a year ago, and I learn almost everything, howeber I found blender a lot better and more flexible, and the best part that it´s free.
can I ask you a question about uv mapping? I need to do uv mapping for the whole scene with all the objects in it. I could do uv mapping for each object apart but not the whole scene, because I need to export the whole scene at once to MD2 file and render in opengl. the scene was already imported from 3d max to blender
Perfect thanks it helps a lot!

Good basic tutorial (save for the baby chatter in the background) :)
How do you unwrap a multiple-part complex object and get all the pieces on one UV which you can use as a texture map?

Where are the options for UV unwrapping now? Like how to set it to angle based and all of those...

I don't see any "Image" tab or options in the materials or textures window.
Am I doing something wrong?
How do I import custom textures into Blender that I already made in photoshop or gimp?

To see textures in the render you can also go to Material / Options and enable Face Textures. :)

@ShafikSalih I'm not sure what your question is. If you mean unwrap all the objects at once, then currently thats not possible.

@theadamgaskins
thanks again, that is what I am asking about
