if you are sick, you deserve medicine. simple as that. the profiteering is so clear here, its beyond belief that people don't see its basically common sense people vs. the super rich few who want to buy a second yacht if it means denying people the care they need to live and be healthy. if you are sick, you need medicine. PERIOD. what is complicated about that?
i commend this guy in the video and his knowledge about whats happening with the health insurance we need reform.America is one of the richest countries and for the U.S not to have great health care reform says something about our society
Seems like the GOP's only real healthcare proposal is "let's scare the population to death so that we can hand Obama a crushing defeat." Do you honestly see many of them trying to help the many American families and small businesses facing ridiculous healthcare costs, much less the 40+ million uninsured Americans? Stop eating up their rhetoric, they're manipulating you successfully. Get some facts and perspective that aren't RNC talking points and THEN make up your OWN mind. PLEASE
Good for you, Icominghome!!! I wish I lived in Spain myself, even though I have dual citizenship--family, friends & vacation is not the only reason I travel to Spain every year; I fill out applications and submit resumes at the Ministry of Labor in my parents' hometown in Galicia every chance I get, in the hope of obtaining secure government employment and thus integrating myself into their Social system, including healthcare! I am just patiently waiting for good news;I will not miss the U.S.!
I am a 25 year old college grad without health insurance. I make good money, but still find it hard to make room for health care cost and would have to find myself sacrificing another necessity. I believe if I dedicate 40+ hours to my employer, my insurance cost/coverage should be @ a average/fair cost. But instead, coverage for a single male would cost me $170 a month. $170 a month is absurd. I have finally threw in the towel and signed up for the USAF.
the problem is that by helping the few, you slow the progress of the majority. That sounds TERRIBLE, but its true. When government goes into the medical insurance industry, they don't have to worry about making a profit when others do. Those other companies will go out of business. The doctor/patient ratio will SKYROCKET and there will be waiting lists for months at a time for crucial surgeries. Dont believe me? Read the stories from Canada and Europe. It happened there, it'll happen here.
I don't know about Canada, but the stories I hear IN Europe (when I vacation in Spain every year with my wife to visit my family and friends) about their excellent health system are good. In fact, I was told by many friends of mine (in a humorous fashion) that some American tourists who cannot afford med. ins. in the U.S. actually FAKE a coronary just to get a FREE CHECK-UP . What's wrong with this picture? Face it; Europe has had it for decades on end!! They're NOT complaining, gtcu17.
I moved from Ghana to Switzerland about 2 months ago. I have an excellent insurance which is obligatory for everyone. Actually, the government makes sure you get it because they can't deal with the scenario when you don't have it. And with a little as 10 SF added to they basic I pay, the insurance company even pays for my gym etc.
gtcu17, I know people in Canada and they don't have any trouble seeing doctors.
Why would the doctor/patient ratio skyrocket if private ins. went out of business? Are you really saying if all the sick people could see doctors it would be crowded?
In Canada and Europe there were only longer waits for non-emergency stuff at the start as all those newly insured could finally get their knee operation, etc. Then things were back to normal. Their emergency care never changed.
I understand its not a complete crisis in Europe and Canada. I know it's not people sobbing in the streets. I also know that the American system needs to be changed, but this isn't the way to do it.
My big argument is that I don't think the government should have control over this. I am a big supporter of limited federal government, and this is too much power to them....
First, I have to say I disagree with you. However, I want to give you some kudos this is a legitimate argument, and needs to be talked about. If there is an idea for state governments (assuming you would be more OK with that), or something like that I would be open to hear that argument. The crap about killing the old and the young, and similar "scare" tactics get old.
However, this is JUST the kind of talk we (Americans) need. So kudos to you.
If it is proper that a Central Authority guarantee health care, why not the more immediate essentials for life, food and shelter; why not clothing?
The underlying premise is a form of Communism, where the Government assumes the ultimate role for taking care of everyone. This is the absolute antithesis of the concept of American Freedom. It is part and parcel of a utilitarian life view that underpinned the great Socialized Societies, which we defeated in World War II and in the Cold War.
I make $150K+ a year, it's not rich, but I am very blessed and I'm not struggling. I would gladly pay a little extra in taxes so everyone can get health insurance, and I never pass a homeless person without giving what is in my pocket. I also donate a lot to my church. I do everything and can to help.
I think the stereotyping is very dangerous and does far more damage than universal health care would.
I feel lucky to have insurance and I want everyone to have it. Am I a freeloader?
It's pathetic that this man views going to his church which is made up of his friends and family for help negatively but somehow in his twisted logic thinks taxpayers who are strangers should cover his medical expenses. I thought the purpose of churches were to help those in need.
I don't know. (Although I do know 1 and 2 doors down.) Although my husband did water his plants one day and I told him so. He was grateful. So, we have had a friendly interaction.
And your point is that, if one doesn't know everyone's name, one cannot think kindly of them? Hello? Ever hear of Christianity? Jesus, said, "Love thy neighbor as thyself," not, "Know everyone's name around you." I doubt the Good Samaritan knew or cared the name of that guy he rescued.
There is no correlation whatsoever between the voluntary actions of the Samaritan and forced tax subsidized health care. Charity is by choice not government mandated. Put you're money where your mouth is, show me the canceled check you mailed Russell Axelson.
You post about Christianity, being a good Samaritan, neighbor, seeing strangers as fellow citizens and friends. Yet you won't help Russel directly by mailing him a check. You instead give an excuse not to. Typical of a socialist government freeloader. You leeches only spend other peoples money because you don't have any of your own. Only the poor like gov entitlement programs because they don't have any money to contribute. While we rich are stripped of our wealth to support you freeloaders.
Look, I'm sorry for the way I spoke in my last post. I shouldn't have. But you were getting pretty personal too, and now you've returned the favor by insulting me and calling me a name (or two), so I guess we're even. :)
Actually, most of the industrialized, civilized world has "gov entitlement programs" like single-payer health care. They're a lot healthier than we are!
I don't think either of us is going to change the other's mind. How about we just agree to disagree, eh, bud? :)
No insurance company over the world would buy for a client. And if you're a ill, you even lost your job, so you can't pay for insurance. Like in the vid, the man has to work for his deseases and not because he liked it. Well you have such an rich country you make a lot of wars, why is your governmant unable to avoid financial desease for families and all the people!
That's a very good question. It's because the Republican party, wich represents the rich, sells hate and fear every election year. It truely is sad in the richest nation on earth we are happy to let people go hungry and die from preventable illness because of greed. :-(
People must remember there were 2 major recessions in the early 20th century. One after WW1. Then Coolidge let bad companies fail and did not prop them up. The recessions was deep and lasted one year with a booming economy following.
The other was the great depression both Hoover and Roosevelt massively intervened in the market. That recession lasted over 10 years because of government stupidity.
Nice - but completely wrong. You've utterly failed to connect the dots between the bubble economy Coolidge created and its inevitable collapse, which resulted in the Great Depression. The roaring twenties were a freight train roaring straight into a dead-end tunnel. You guys crack me up. We just had the same kind of phony boom economy, spurred on by the same nonsensical economic theories Coolidge subscribed to, and the same popping bubble. It's called history - try actually learning from it.
We tried your methon of massive government expansion in it led to a 15 year deppression. If you were correct massive government spedningw ould have gotten us out of the deppression but it didn't
Mmm - that's weird, Snow, because every year except '37 the GDP rose and unemployment fell - what happened in '37, you might ask? FDR temporarily bowed to pressure to decrease government spending. When spending resumed, the jobs and GDP resumed climbing until we had a really nice piece of government expansion called WWII, which finished off the depression. So yeah, government spending seems to work. But hey, don't let me confuse you with proven facts.
It never stops to amaze me that people give WWII as an example of recover. Food rationing for an entire population, millions of men living in tents. And this is teh government utopia you promise. It was not until the 1950 and the shakles of government control were thrown off that rationing diappeared and people to start to live normal lives.
Also the GDP numbers for the 1930s are phoney. as the govrenment values goods and services. You pay someone not to grow food and then pay someone to check that they are not growing food and you count that as part of GDP, thats silly. Yet that's in those GDP numbers.
With FDR unemplyemnet was around 20% after government intervention ended in the 1950s it went to 3 to 4%
Snow, when you're doing your fact checking, you kind of shoot yourself in the foot when you get it so consistently and utterly wrong.
Guess what. In the fifties, we had another massive government spending program - it was called the Korean War.
But, as is typical with you guys, when you're confronted with the real numbers, you cry, and when you stop crying, you claim all the numbers were faked. Weird how you manage to drag so much false information out of faked numbers.
Yes yes. Being in the army is kind of a public works program. Everyone forgets that. FDR saved us then. Obama will save us now. Hail the glorious leader Obama!!!
WW II? We had food ratioining and millions of American living in tents. It was not until after teh war and deregulation that things got better and food rationing went away.
yes it did. it was called world war 2. Isn't being in the army working for the government? it was the biggest "jobs program" ever. Roosevelt was our saviour then. Our glorious leader Obama will save us now. All hail the glorious leader!
What the United States needs and deserves is a world-standard Single Payer Health Care System with everyone in and NO ONE left out. Members of congress who are legislating on this have massive conflicts of interest and the insurance companies are invested in big tobacco. Single Payer Health Care -- everyone in and no one left out. Let's bring the USA up world standards with the most cost-effective system possible. It's time for CHANGE. Everyone in, no one left out.
Also, I don't agree with everything he's done so far- Bailing out the banks is NOT taking the side of the tax payer. It just keeps the toxic assets on the books of the big banks, making them APPEAR solvent- Sure the alternative is a VERY scary concept, but at the same time? What about taking the medicine the US prescribes with the IMF when the same thing happens to other banks like in Argentina in 2002?
I mean if you truly mean what you say that you understand my aforementioned concepts (OTF, HUD, etc.) then you know that bailing out our big banks IS NOT "Nationalizing," though similar. If we were REALLY nationalizing? It wouldn't be announced, the IMF's typical plan would take effect.
2 hurdles with that: 1) People would cry "Ah, Socialism!" (despite many small banks CURRENTLY in receivership) and 2) How would you nationalize 1,000 banks (the entire global market, basically?)
Forcing minorities to stay in their place? A snide remark stealthy hidden as bigoted animosity? No way! Thanks JOHN SMITH (or whatever more comfortable Anglo-Saxon name you prefer.)
What the fuck are you smoking? Where did I mention forcing minorities to stay in their place? Where is the bigotry? You have no idea what your talking about
Oh, you know what I mean Steven Henderson or whatever you name is Richard Head. It's all "wink, and nod" bigotry. I'm not stupid, but you can pretend all you want.
It's ok. Hey, I bet you have trouble deciding if BARRY HUSSEIN prefers chicken or hummus on his sammiches, right?
Your obviously an Obama zombie and a pea brained individual. Your philosophy is 'everyone that doesn't wanna suck his cock is a racist.' Your a brainwashed fool.
Could you be more obvious? Seriously, are you putting me on? Next you'll be telling me I worship that fat slop Michael Moore, and how Che Guevara is my idea of a revolutionary Or.. Oooh! I know, France (or you can use Canada's) way of life is so superior to Americans.
It could be worse, you could believe I'm a mung-chugging Ron Paul voter and that I jerk off with margarine to Alex Jones rants on how 9/11 was an inside Job.
Your branching off into completely unrelated subjects and telling everyone your masturbation practices. It's too late you've been identified. You want Obama to get special treatment because he's half black which makes you a racist.
Sadly, it's ALL related. You think lock-step with the "Right Wing" idiots. You don't even have a single thought of your own. You call him "Barry Hussein" because you thought it was funny that some other guy said it, pointing out the obvious fact that he has a "non-American" name. You may not be a racist, but you're stupid enough to sing their songs, and rhetorical chants.
No dipshit I think for myself. Calling him Barry Hussein got you all worked up didn't it. You have no idea how I think, if you knew me you'd realize I'm not that right wing.
Well, it got me worked up not because I actually THINK you may be a zombie of the right wing as much as you think I'm a zombie of the left wing, but if you want to convince people that you're not? using the same rhetorical slanders doesn't help. I mean I didn't call George W. Bush "Dubya" or whatever... slander existed for him. It's not uncommon for those highly opposed to Barack Obama to blatantly call out HUSSEIN like it's a bad thing. It's not, but the SUBTEXT of doing it isn't lost.
I called him dubya. I called him shit head some days. I was wrong, your not a leftwing zombie. It was the imediately bringing up race that made me think so.
I can tell you this- I bet you think I blame George W. Bush for the economy.
I bet you couldn't think past oh, say the Clinton Adiministration, much less name THE BILL that was passed that AIDED (but was not the ONLY cause) of the economic situation we're in.
Do you even know what the OFT is? Or S&P, Moody's? What AAA+ on CDO's are? Or even what mathematical problem the fomula for CDO's faced to get AAA+ ran into that was ignored? How about HWY AAA+ even mattered?
Can you name the head of HUD under Bush? Can you tell me what did Greenspan do? What WAS that piece of legislation Bill "The Thrill" Clinton passed? Or the 1970's legislation that made the 1990's Bill pass easier? Or fuck that! Who was the Comptroller of Currency in 1936 and what did HE do?
Hell, even if you COULD answer, hopefully you're smart enough to know it'd take more than 350+ character to even BEGIN to explain it.
I'm not gonna waste time taking your quizes to prove anything. there isnt room here and it has nothing to do with my dislike of Obama's polices. If you wanna discuss those completely unrelated topics go to my mail.
Obama's administration- defined by Webster: Fascism- a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. Hitler gave free health care too. Wow. Americans will give up their freedom for anything.
ALL Americans are now paying in HIDDEN TAXES the cost for medical care for the "UNINSURED" who must use the Emergency Room.
With President Obama's Health Plan ALL AMERICANS will be covered. These HIDDEN TAXES will disappear.
WHY is a ... "PUBLIC GOVERNMENT PLAN" ... good enough for all REPUBLICAN SENATORS in Congress ... but NOT good enough for ALL AMERICANS who choose this option over a Private Plan??
AGAIN we see the blatant REPUBLICAN LIES & HYPROCRISY !!
Places the INSURANCE COMPANY between YOU & YOUR DOCTOR. The Insurance Company DECIDES what treatment they will authorize & pay for ... or what claim they will deny & cancel the policy.
PUBLIC:
Your DOCTOR is the one who DECIDES what treatment YOU require. NO profit involved. NO more red tape. NO begging with Insurance Company for approval.
All SENATORS in Congress have a GOVERNMENT run PUBLIC PLAN !!
Dear Democratic Friends! Please write your President Obama and demand that the "public option" plan is the ONLY plan we will accept. Do NOT believe the scare tactics the GOP are spouting! Private insurance companies have had plenty of time to lower costs and all they have done is compete with each other to raise prices while people are DYING! We elected President Obama and we must hold him to the fire on this issue! Our majority depends on it! God Bless & Have A Great Day!
MY mother works as a nurse. She pays roughly 15% of her income to pay for health insurance for me, my borther, and herself, and that is with her company paying half.
She opted for the best plan available, she cannot get any more insurance. Yet still we pay $25-$50 per doctor visit and $15-$50 on prescription pills in copays
enough is enough Mr President, we voted for change, there is no reason why someone should dye in this country because someone cant make a buck off them
My Blue Cross /Blue Shield health insurance costs $450per month. I still pay $20 per office visit. They pay only 45% of my prescriptions. There is a $300.00 deductable for tests. So Im paying $450 per month for what? I fully agree that its long past time that our government steps up to kick these money grubbing Madoffs to the curb. According to the WHO we are rated 37th on their list.
This is a step forward. It is only an option! If a health care provider gets beats out by the government option it tells you one thing, that insurance company sucks. Hopefully this will be properly managed and we can end up with a system similar to that of the Canadian western European systems. I really hope some of the specialists especially from the UK can help up in this time. Do not follow the Massachusetts way, it is doomed! If the option is better than all it will become a well run NHS.
Wilsh0311: My Blue Cross/Blue Shield costs $450 per month. I still pay $20 per office visit, and they pay only 45% of my prescription costs. They pay a portion of my dental bills, but zero for eye care
Maybe some private insurance companies deserve to go bankrupt. Correct me if Im wrong but Obama stated that we can choose between our current provider and the government plan.
a public plan can deliver what private insurance cannot. The government does not need to advertise, make huge profits, or compensate its CEOs with billions of dollars. It is estimated that a public plan would have under 10% overhead cost, compare that to a Health Insurance company that have an average of 30% overhead.
There wont be a private option. Thats the trick. A company will not provide a private plan if there is a "free" option. Of course the "free" option means rationing, lines, and substandard care. It means treatments will be delayed, drugs unapproved. It means you will no longer control your healthcare. Don't worry, a politically appointed health board will decide on your care. What could possibly go wrong?
Seriously, just like I can't get my packages mailed any other way except through the United States Postal Service or I can only go to Public Schools. I hate that. I wish we had like a company called "FedEx" or a cool name like "UPS" or I wish I had gone to a Private School, but alas... I live in a Socialist regime that FORCES me to us "Government Only." The USA is just like the totalitarian countries my family escaped. Damn.
fine take schools as an example. Most go to public schools because they are "free" So basically only the rich can go to private schools. So us middle class get to stand in a line and get worked on by doctors who are about as professional as the kids who work at a valvoline oil change store.
Aside from the fact that that's not necessarily true, you wouldn't have to buy the public health insurance option. That's why it's referred to as an "option." If you like your healthcare plan, keep it...and if you don't like your healthcare plan, buy a better one.
underbird: Free? You must be a Limbaugh fan. Truth is Obamas plan states that all Americans will have the opportunity to enroll in the new public plan on an income-based sliding scale. I have no problem with that. Every American should have access to affordable insurance in accordance to what they can afford. Lack of medical insurance contributes to bankruptcy and foreclosures.
You must be afraid of debate. Truth is whatever his 'plan' is, its admitted to be only a step to full government healthcare. Thats why democrats rejected a bill that would prevent the government from using the new health board to deny people care.
I think underbird is correct in using education as the model of things to come. Gov. schools have pushed private schools into near extinction. Sliding scale mean that tax payers will need to pay for those currently uninsured at a cost of 1 to 2 trillion dollars. If government run programs are so good why doesn't Obama send his kids to public schools in DC? After this plan is done middle class Americans will end up with shitty health care just like the shitty schools the gov. provides
i'm Canadian, and i can't even fathom what you guys to the south pay for medical care or prescriptions.
Up here, if you need surgery, you got it.
you might have to wait, but you don't gotta pay.
if you need prescriptions, chances are their cheap.
if i break and arm or a leg, the only thing i gotta worry about is getting my ass to the hospital, not weather or not i got enough money or if my insurance covers it.
FYI - my private insurance costs $450 per month. When I turn 65 Ill pay an additional $96 per month for Government Medicare, which will then pick up the first 80% of my medical bills. My private insurance may or may not reimburse me for the remainder. Its entirely left up to their discretion.
Basic Government Medicare pays nothing for dental or eye care. Thats an extra added expense.
Dont sell out Obama. Most voted for you because they want change. Health care is a huge deal. I just feel he has already sold himself off of universal health care.
i used to live in Cuba, its a developing country and it does exist, so if Cuba with 11 million of people , a shitty PIB and a dictationship system have a free health care system how tha hell USA doesn't? Out there are people that critique B.Obama for his changes, i seriously cant understand they American way of think .
Come to Europe and see how our system works. Less power to Health insurance-companies and pharmaceutical industry. In Holland everybody has affordable healthcare. For most of the people it 's a non-item.
He says it's a legacy thing but I think it's just that it won't get votes, HR 676 is out there it's just a matter of getting your congressman and senators to get it on the floor and vote for it.
The best thing for you and all of us without healthcare service is to move to a country with free healthcare. Too bad we fucking love this country so much, apparently we will die here because of our stubborness. I'm 20yrs old and currently laidoff and without health insurance, and even when I was working 3 months ago I wasn't able to pay for it because I live alone and I earned just enough to pay rent, bills and school. I deeply hope health service be made free, but I don't think will happen.
Health care will never be free, pjce3. If you did not have to pay out of pocket to see a doctor or for insurance, 3 months ago when you "earned just enough to pay rent, bills and school" you would not have had enough money to pay for those things due to higher taxes for your health care. Unless the government will enslave part of the population to provide health services, we will pay for it either way.
I live in Europe and I can tell you for sure that socialism works and is not dangerous! It just let people have a safety net and they are still free and live in a capitalist nation. Our healthcare is fine for the most part.
LOL.. when I post the video about government care in other countries, I get erased. Scroll back down the comment list on the first page and you will find it, folks
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well Obama sell us out on health care reform??? It's beginning to feel like it...Big business, lobbyist are going to win again. It's shameful...wish I had supported Clinton!
without social programs only the rich will be healthy, safe & educated.
4 progress, we all need to strive. we aren't calling for socialism.
let's stop giving tax breaks to companies that take jobs overseas. let's keep US working & spending $ here. this is the key to our coming out of this economic mess. rid the loopholes that make the rich richer.
not calling 4 govt. mandated healthcare-just another option.
we all pay the price when someone can't pay 4 care-who gets stuck paying the bill?
My wish this Christmas is just for government to leave me alone and let myself and others live our lives. I have my doubts that wish will ever come true.
@Eldel15 The Insurance "Free Market" has already been monopolized silly. This is the reason there is need for a government run option. Health care should be available for all Americans and not be handled by businesses who's highest priority is to get maximum profit.
That and a government health care program would actually be more cost efficient than healthcare from private companies. The typical amount of all money which goes into medicare which is wasted via overhead costs is about 5%, whereas the amount for the typical private company is about 30% (due to administrative costs, profit needs, lobbying, etc). With a government program, you actually would receive more healthcare per dollar than in a private system.
I pay for medical cards for everyone else out of my paycheck, but can't afford private insurance for myself. Can't this man can get Medicad or Medicare?
You also realize that people who regularly watch satirical news on Comedy Central, (such as The Daily Show and the Colbert Report) are on average more informed about current events than fox news watchers?
Health care and education should be available for everyone, free of charge. If you American conservatives want to call that "communism" I can tell you that I'm glad to be a communist.
Then you would probably realize that actual communism, as proposed by Marx, is essentially anarchist collectivism. The term "communist nation" is a contradiction of terms, since a society cannot fulfill the definition of a communist society unless the state has withered away, however, in Venezuela, this is obviously not the case, as they still possess national borders, etc.
well, if the government would stop purposefully poisoning and killing us off through food, air and water then there would be no need for them to pose as saviors through healthcare..... wtf....
9/11 was an inside job nano thermite found in buildings that's why they dont wanna launch another investigation because the perpetraters are your politicians who are still in office even now! wake up America!
if you are sick, you deserve medicine. simple as that. the profiteering is so clear here, its beyond belief that people don't see its basically common sense people vs. the super rich few who want to buy a second yacht if it means denying people the care they need to live and be healthy. if you are sick, you need medicine.

744682532 2 years ago
The difference between me and you is you see everyone around you as a "stranger." I see them as fellow citizens and potential friends.
Treebard 2 years ago
Nice words of wisdom. Now, what's the name of your neighbor three houses down?
744682532 2 years ago
I don't know. (Although I do know 1 and 2 doors down.) Although my husband did water his plants one day and I told him so. He was grateful. So, we have had a friendly interaction.
And your point is that, if one doesn't know everyone's name, one cannot think kindly of them? Hello? Ever hear of Christianity? Jesus, said, "Love thy neighbor as thyself," not, "Know everyone's name around you." I doubt the Good Samaritan knew or cared the name of that guy he rescued.
Treebard 2 years ago
I respect your honest answer to my question.
There is no correlation whatsoever between the voluntary actions of the Samaritan and forced tax subsidized health care. Charity is by choice not government mandated. Put you're money where your mouth is, show me the canceled check you mailed Russell Axelson.
744682532 2 years ago
LOLOLOLOLOL........
The whole charity thing for Mr. Axelson is YOUR idea, buddy. Where's YOUR check? LOL.
In my plan, no one has to directly subsidize Mr. Axelson, because we all help each other.
But, why do I even bother trying to explain? Nothing will ever change in your calcified little libertarian brain.... LOL.....
Treebard 2 years ago

SnowCabbage1 2 years ago
Nice - but completely wrong. You've utterly failed to connect the dots between the bubble economy Coolidge created and its inevitable collapse, which resulted in the Great Depression. The roaring twenties were a freight train roaring straight into a dead-end tunnel. You guys crack me up. We just had the same kind of phony boom economy, spurred on by the same nonsensical economic theories Coolidge subscribed to, and the same popping bubble. It's called history - try actually learning from it.

SnowCabbage1 2 years ago
Mmm - that's weird, Snow, because every year except '37 the GDP rose and unemployment fell - what happened in '37, you might ask? FDR temporarily bowed to pressure to decrease government spending. When spending resumed, the jobs and GDP resumed climbing until we had a really nice piece of government expansion called WWII, which finished off the depression. So yeah, government spending seems to work. But hey, don't let me confuse you with proven facts.
47f0 2 years ago
It never stops to amaze me that people give WWII as an example of recover. Food rationing for an entire population, millions of men living in tents. And this is teh government utopia you promise. It was not until the 1950 and the shakles of government control were thrown off that rationing diappeared and people to start to live normal lives.
SnowCabbage1 2 years ago
Also the GDP numbers for the 1930s are phoney. as the govrenment values goods and services. You pay someone not to grow food and then pay someone to check that they are not growing food and you count that as part of GDP, thats silly. Yet that's in those GDP numbers.
With FDR unemplyemnet was around 20% after government intervention ended in the 1950s it went to 3 to 4%
Those are the facts.
SnowCabbage1 2 years ago
Snow, when you're doing your fact checking, you kind of shoot yourself in the foot when you get it so consistently and utterly wrong.
Guess what. In the fifties, we had another massive government spending program - it was called the Korean War.
But, as is typical with you guys, when you're confronted with the real numbers, you cry, and when you stop crying, you claim all the numbers were faked. Weird how you manage to drag so much false information out of faked numbers.

Also, I don't agree with everything he's done so far- Bailing out the banks is NOT taking the side of the tax payer. It just keeps the toxic assets on the books of the big banks, making them APPEAR solvent- Sure the alternative is a VERY scary concept, but at the same time? What about taking the medicine the US prescribes with the IMF when the same thing happens to other banks like in Argentina in 2002?
magog1138 2 years ago
I mean if you truly mean what you say that you understand my aforementioned concepts (OTF, HUD, etc.) then you know that bailing out our big banks IS NOT "Nationalizing," though similar. If we were REALLY nationalizing? It wouldn't be announced, the IMF's typical plan would take effect.
2 hurdles with that: 1) People would cry "Ah, Socialism!" (despite many small banks CURRENTLY in receivership) and 2) How would you nationalize 1,000 banks (the entire global market, basically?)

Sadly, it's ALL related. You think lock-step with the "Right Wing" idiots. You don't even have a single thought of your own. You call him "Barry Hussein" because you thought it was funny that some other guy said it, pointing out the obvious fact that he has a "non-American" name.

Do you even know what the OFT is? Or S&P, Moody's? What AAA+ on CDO's are? Or even what mathematical problem the fomula for CDO's faced to get AAA+ ran into that was ignored? How about HWY AAA+ even mattered?

MY mother works as a nurse. She pays roughly 15% of her income to pay for health insurance for me, my borther, and herself, and that is with her company paying half.
She opted for the best plan available, she cannot get any more insurance. Yet still we pay $25-$50 per doctor visit and $15-$50 on prescription pills in copays
enough is enough Mr President, we voted for change, there is no reason why someone should dye in this country because someone cant make a buck off them
mharris666 2 years ago
My Blue Cross /Blue Shield health insurance costs $450per month. I still pay $20 per office visit. They pay only 45% of my prescriptions. There is a $300.00 deductable for tests. So Im paying $450 per month for what? I fully agree that its long past time that our government steps up to kick these money grubbing Madoffs to the curb. According to the WHO we are rated 37th on their list.
fpm229 2 years ago
Right on fpm! And I hope to God you never have to file a major claim. Then your insurance company will show their TRUE colors. Public option NOW!
phillipmarch22 2 years ago 3
This is a step forward. It is only an option! If a health care provider gets beats out by the government option it tells you one thing, that insurance company sucks. Hopefully this will be properly managed and we can end up with a system similar to that of the Canadian western European systems. I really hope some of the specialists especially from the UK can help up in this time. Do not follow the Massachusetts way, it is doomed! If the option is better than all it will become a well run NHS.

Maybe some private insurance companies deserve to go bankrupt. Correct me if Im wrong but Obama stated that we can choose between our current provider and the government plan.
fpm229 2 years ago
a public plan can deliver what private insurance cannot. The government does not need to advertise, make huge profits, or compensate its CEOs with billions of dollars. It is estimated that a public plan would have under 10% overhead cost, compare that to a Health Insurance company that have an average of 30% overhead.
mharris666 2 years ago 3
You seem rational. Im no expert on the ways and means of public healthcare, but Id be willing pay
a bit more to help the uninsured. Its only the cry-baby right-wingers that are holding this up.
fpm229 2 years ago
There wont be a private option. Thats the trick. A company will not provide a private plan if there is a "free" option. Of course the "free" option means rationing, lines, and substandard care. It means treatments will be delayed, drugs unapproved. It means you will no longer control your healthcare. Don't worry, a politically appointed health board will decide on your care. What could possibly go wrong?

Seriously, just like I can't get my packages mailed any other way except through the United States Postal Service or I can only go to Public Schools. I hate that. fine take schools as an example. Most go to public schools because they are "free" So basically only the rich can go to private schools. So us middle class get to stand in a line and get worked on by doctors who are about as professional as the kids who work at a valvoline oil change store.
underbird 2 years ago
Aside from the fact that that's not necessarily true, you wouldn't have to buy the public health insurance option. That's why it's referred to as an "option." If you like your healthcare plan, keep it...and if you don't like your healthcare plan, buy a better one.
darkasteroid17 2 years ago 2
underbird: Free? You must be a Limbaugh fan. Truth is Obamas plan states that all Americans will have the opportunity to enroll in the new public plan on an income-based sliding scale. I have no problem with that. Every American should have access to affordable insurance in accordance to what they can afford. Lack of medical insurance contributes to bankruptcy and foreclosures.
fpm229 2 years ago
You must be afraid of debate. Truth is whatever his 'plan' is, its admitted to be only a step to full government healthcare. Thats why democrats rejected a bill that would prevent the government from using the new health board to deny people care.
underbird 2 years ago
I think underbird is correct in using education as the model of things to come. Gov. schools have pushed private schools into near extinction. Sliding scale mean that tax payers will need to pay for those currently uninsured at a cost of 1 to 2 trillion dollars. If government run programs are so good why doesn't Obama send his kids to public schools in DC? After this plan is done middle class Americans will end up with shitty health care just like the shitty schools the gov. provides

Basic Government Medicare pays nothing for dental or eye care. Thats an extra added expense.

GIRfan 2 years ago 2
That and a government health care program would actually be more cost efficient than healthcare from private companies. The typical amount of all money which goes into medicare which is wasted via overhead costs is about 5%, whereas the amount for the typical private company is about 30% (due to administrative costs, profit needs, lobbying, etc). With a government program, you actually would receive more healthcare per dollar than in a private system.

Ha ha. watching Glenn Beck (or any other program on FOX for that matter) for real news is like going to a whore house for a wife.

Lawl, yes, everyone watch Glenn Beck, there's nothing more funny than watching that freakball have a meltdown over shit he can't understand.

Health care and education should be available for everyone, free of charge. If you American conservatives want to call that "communism" I can tell you that I'm glad to be a communist.
AlmightyJesus 2 years ago 3
Then get ready to wait in lines, pay bribes to doctors to getb the care you need and not being able to get the best medicine.

NO, we don't need your rationed care, keep it for commie friends in Venezuela.
BlueSkies360 2 years ago
are you a moron? do you realize Venezuela is not a communist nation? do you even know what communism is?
tippx1 2 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Sorry, but it is. And yes, I know what communism is, but YOU don't.
BlueSkies360 2 years ago
Then you would probably realize that actual communism, as proposed by Marx, is essentially anarchist collectivism. The term "communist nation" is a contradiction of terms, since a society cannot fulfill the definition of a communist society unless the state has withered away, however, in Venezuela, this is obviously not the case, as they still possess national borders, etc.

Hope for all american that their Health Care will change quickly
Tipsie79 2 years ago 2
well, if the government would stop purposefully poisoning and killing us off through food, air and water then there would be no need for them to pose as saviors through healthcare..... wtf....
