I know. I thought it was simply beautiful when I first heard it. It was supposed to be in Fantasia 2000, but the director was told it was too sad to put in, that they wanted a more upbeat and optimistic story. Oh, well...
I love this story. I grew up with it and it made, and still makes, me cry. It's such a sad and brutal story, yet strangely heartwarming and beautiful. Andersen was a genius. I'm also glad that disney didn't change that she dies at the end. It's the entire point of the story.
And to think that now we turn a blind eye to forced child labor and child slavery in other countries, profit always seems to be more important.
