  • Well they don't call them Scarebus for nothing. Looks like just another example of a pilot fighting the computer on one of these things. I just don't trust them.

  • He got the stick shaker going!

  • If it's not a Boeing, you shouldn't be going....

  • wowww

  • In this bad of weather aand with this bad of cross wind I would definatly have gone around sonner. But then again, I fly small aircraft so I really can't judge.

  • TERRAIN! PULL UP! TERRAIN! PULL UP!

  • i think the pilot applied throttle in the exact moment. the plane was not fully aligned nor leveled before that. as soon as the plane was "stable" he applied TO\GA. any moment before that and it would be a disaster.. just my 2 cents, im no pilot. sorry 4 bad english...

  • The 321 had issues with roll-yaw coupling during landings in ice and crosswinds. Would cause pilot induced oscillations like you see here. They fixed this with new software.

  • wow man thats crazy!!!

  • patton, your links take us to the same videu

  • portugal sucks

  • Why do you think the Captain took so long to apply full throttle? I mean he was already at a pitch up attitude for a few seconds before he opened up the throttle...what the hell.

  • I think most commercial aircraft take some time to build up the N1 for TOGA power....

    It's not immediately responsive....

But I can't be sure because I don't fly comm. aircraft.

Any Airbus pilots comment on this???

  • i think there might of been a bit of delay with sound travelling too, looks like the cam was on a heavy zoom across the airport which is a big place so it might seem slightly later than it actually was but it still looks like it wasnt instant power. TOGA can be a pain, im not a pilot but when flying the airbus in flight sim if the pitch angle aint right and the nose is too high on approach it goes to full throttle and its yet another go around, dont know how close that is to reality tho.good vid

  • @patton303 You know what thats about the only sensible comment i've seen on an airliner video all year! Too many Flight Sim Gods around that think they know everything it's refreshing to see some sense used before posting!

  • @patton303 you are correct, but the "lag" time to spool up is not that long. The pilot here did wait too long IMO...and his approach appeared to be too high also. Once the oscellation starts, it is difficult to stop it especially when it gets out of hand like it is here. If I was his chief pilot, he would be doing alot of practice in the simulator.

  • @patton303 i know the reson for all this late go around and slow this and that and late throttle, MUST REACH TAXFREESTORE BEFORE SHUTDOWN.

  • What a pilot!!!! That was not a computer... That was manual handeling...

  • OMFG DAT WAS SCARY

  • Well, the approach was ok, for a heavy crosswind landing. When close to the ground, the crosswind, literally, drops the plane suddenly, and it's the captains job to hold the plane up.

  • cross winds ...

  • Damn they're queezy

  • Orite cool.

Reply was a bit late lol!

    Good luck with vids

  • thanks man....

Yeah... I'm not really a comment junkie..

    ;7

  • lol. u really like planes dont you?

When are u making another drum vid?? :)

  • Working on em' right now....

  • dude thats not a crosswind thats a crossstorm landing ... realy really hard

  • that piolt sucks a british airways piolt could have landed it.

  • lmao

  • Were there crosswinds or am I imagening?.. And I think he needed to do a go-around, if he would have landed he could get a his nose in the ground lol..

  • hey dude its awesome that u r a drummer and almost a private pilot!! im a mexican guy who play drums and almost an air traffic controller!! u fuckin rock dude, keep drummin and flying

  • Thanks man... good luck with that...

  • He flared good. HE COULD HAVE LANDED IT!!!!

  • 321 bullshit.

  • holy shit

  • Great job averting a disaster! The paxs must have been terrified. Wonder if s/he landed on the next approach or went to their alternate.

  • Damn that's scary. I'm surprised if he has a job anymore.

  • actually i WOULDNT be surprised if he got a medal or award of some sort. if yo see the angle that he's coming in, thats not him, thats the wind, so the go around desicion was a quick smart desicion that saved hundreds of people.

  • Actually my friend....

There was no procedure violation of any kind here. Just unfortunate timing with positive results.

    Can't beat that.

  • And Why Must the capitan be fly? Can't be the person of her right?

  • A captain will often let his FO land the plane.

In fact more and more crews are doing that to increase situational awareness.

  • I wonder how bad he pissed himself

  • there was probably a lake full of piss in the cockpit.

  • lol!

  • i've been in that airport,it's kinda on a hill, very strong winds,he was goin 45 degrees on the aproach that says it all, don't see a lot of stuff like that...

  • Find the vid of the Lufthansa A-320 almost skidding off the runway. One of the scariest plane vids I've ever seen.

  • LOL!!!!

  • Wind or error... either way that was close!

  • Yea I agree with ya ILAMproductions except in Georgia its more like car crashes every day or other day.

  • I have to say, airplanes are more safe than cars on the road. There are a lot more cars on the ground than airplanes in the air. you listen to car crashes every 7 days or so, and an airplane crash every month or year.

  • Yeah, I agree, but sad thing is that plane accidents are usually much more fatal. I mean, on a road, if the car engine fails, you can pull over and inspect it, with no injuries. If a plane engine fails (both engines) then there's no way to "pull over and inspect". It's almost certain death...:(

  • hey, chances are that i DO know more than most about aircraft, considering i am a student pilot... I know that cnc3 and battlefield arent simulators but my point remains. By spending some time on a PC flight sim does not make you an expert. The ONLY way to say with any degree of accuracy which is the better aircraft company is to fly both companies arircraft back to back without bias.

  • I think it doesn't depends less on the company, but on the aircraft the company makes. A good quality aircraft doesn't allways have to come from the company with the most money. Still, it doesn't hurt to have favorites, does it.

  • LoL.. funny comment

  • That 'idiot' comment was meant for the guy below me.

  • i would ask to see the captain before getting off. Then punch the cunt in the face.

  • i think the captain was drunk and the co-pilot took controls at the last second, the movement of the bushes in the clip doesn't really justify the aircrafts role, what do you think?

  • Idiot.

  • expert alert! britishagent play flight simulator, so therefore he knows absolutely EVERYTHING about planes! haha i play command and conquer, but do i know how to target a real nuke? i play battlefield, but do i know how to operate an entire real destroyer? get my point?

  • No, these games aren't simulators so that is a stupid comment. however you cant learn everything about flying from a simulator, but ill bet he knows alot more than you do.

  • fui piloto.....parece facil no? mexico.

  • he should have aborted earlier, what he did isn't the recommended!

  • shut up ugly!!!

  • Since only Mother Nature controls the weather (yes, winds too) how can you fault the pilots?

  • He should have aborted earlier...that's was just dangerous and dumb.

  • good job pilot( i have been on 1 just like that):p

  • Wow! Jet Jockeys who know what a rudder is! For a guy with 1,200 hours of DeHavilland taildragger time, I'm impressed!

  • I hate Airbuses. I sometimes fly with them in FSX and the Boeings are MUCH better.

  • The fat chick fell out of the chair man!

  • It wasn't just crosswind. The plane got pushed down too. The pilot did the right thing.

  • WHAT IS A GLIDESCOPE???

  • hi

glideslope is the term and its a computer guided radar which displays the correct descent to a runway using ILS

  • Bravo to the pilot!!!

  • very skilled pilot there. Bad crosswind like that would killed alot of freshies pilots. Bravo to the man

  • lol silly people, even if the pilot wanted to, i doubt he could make an aircraft that large "swing" from side to side like that...it's obviously caused by wind, not the pilot.

  • pilot induced occillation

  • What kind of wind?

...sorry, I'm not usually into that kind of humour...

  • toxic ur a dumbass, its not the pilot, he did the right thing. Its something called crosswinds and they make it really dangerous to land, so he just went up and tried again, its better than trashing the plane...

  • The pilot did the right thing. Full power and try again.

    Better than crashing.

  • hey man that is a very crosswind. they almost crashed.

  • hey colty whatever, its not the pilot! its called crosswinds!

  • Just wondering if any complaints were filed by the passengers?

  • terrible piloting....really bad.

  • What airline is that?

  • Transportes Aereos Portugueses, sometimes i should try reading...

  • Transportes Aereos Portugueses.

They are the best pilots in the world. The sirline company is in the ten more secures in the world

  • That's rubbish. It is not even in the Top 24. On 19th Nov 1977 TAP lost a Boeing 727-200 (CS-TBR) in Funchal/Madeira, killing 131 people. The pilot couldn't stop in time on the unusually short runway.

  • Ooog. I've got fingernail marks on my mouse. I think I'd have left some intersting marks on my underwear if I'd been aboard that thing.

  • "whoop whoop... terrain terrain... pull up! pull up!"

  • I hope the airline gave out complementary underware afterwards.

  • Go around! good pilot.

  • totaly agree with pilotCyros I have only flown light aircraft and even i can agree he left that way to late to abort his airspeed was bleeding making the control surfaces less effective infact i think he was only able to do a go around because of the amount of knots in the head wind

  • OMG. When flying to Chicago I thought I was going to die when it looked like the wing was going to hit the ground. It was nothing like that though. Wow.

  • i messed my pants just watching this

  • Classic pilot induced oscillation!

  • I really think he had it right up until the very end (around 00:19) when the wind blew him way sideways. Its not like he was out of control before that happened, so I understand when he decided to go around.

  • That´s the difference between good and bad airlines. The Go-Around was initiated way too late here! The danger of a crash was imminent and the pilot flying must have initiated the go-around at least before he first tried to flair the aircraft that was at second 15. The engines spooled up after the aircraft dropped several times. Very bad airmanship!

  • it looked like the pilot had the airplane under control until the very last moment, the engines were already spooled up before the sound reached the camera, it was just something unexpected what happened at the very last moment (in the flair)

  • pilot "oh were landing? omg!, pulllllllllllll uuuuuup"

  • move along... nothing to worry about here, I've got everything under control!

  • Great decision to abort the landing...

  • OMG! that must have been soooooooooo scary for passengers!

  • That was scary...

  • wow he could have stalled

  • dude that thing turned right and left .. thatd be scary .. goodd thing he bailed

  • He did a 'go around' - good choice.

  • second officer? u mean first officer. SON!

  • once when i flew on a plane they let the second officer copilot fly the landing it was waving in mid air she almost fucked up the landing

  • hahha i rember the plane i was on having to pull back up like that landing in shannon , scared the shite out of me

  • Looks like one of my standard crosswind approaches, minus all the people on board of course.

  • An earlier go around would ahve been the better choice, I agree... from my experinces.

  • Funny, I had a situation much worser once. Boy, do i remmebr it every time i fly, it really scares me just thinking about it. The pilot should have declared a go around just after the final, it could have been very risky, I guess the co-pilot was flying = ].

  • or the pilot was a cocky son of a bitch.

  • You got that right, he must have been "brave" as they call it, I would never think of being like that, it would most probably turn out to be fatal in some situations where it is crititical.

  • it almost kind of looks like he announced a go around but then still tried to land it

  • In a way, although on the other hand, it couldnt have been. You see that crosswind landing before all the rolling before touchdown, it would have been simple, but when it started to roll, it would have been impossible for a smooth landing. Therefore, he must have thought he would been able to make it before the plane encountered strong crosswinds. Could be either way, from my opinion, this second suggestion is right. watch it closely.

  • thats the thing about crosswinds they usually are there the next time you come aroud too.

  • what

  • next time, go around a bit earlier...

  • prolly the first day of the pilot XD

  • Brrrrrr

  • That was an ugly situation they got into. They should have landed at another runway/airport. Too much risk.

  • I would have demanded a refund, and millions in compensation for post traumatic stress. When one travels First Class there are standards to be maintained!! Steerage, yes, but not First Class!!

  • I would also sue for a new pair of underwear :/

  • well would u have given me the underwear you wore on that flight??

  • Yeah, Some Unreal Ground Level Crosswinds

  • That's why you DON'T land in a crosswind that strong. The shear strength was through the roof!

  • We can conclude two things from this video:

    (1) The Airbus 321 can dance

    (2) TAP is a damn good airline, with loads of wannabe Hero pilots. :D

Clearly Portuguese :P (don't flame me, as im Portuguese myself) TAP is a damn good airline.

  • Yes... Blah Blah Blah...

    -scott, Certified Know It All

  • second that :)

    Still a good video!

  • Just looks like the wind was high (hence the large crab) and gusty (hence the "wabble" stall/mush in the flare). -Robert, Certified Flight Instructor

  • funny

  • Hey sitchy,

I thought your comment was just THE BEST!!!! you must really know alot about planes! I really learned alot from you

  • He should have just used the low wing method all the way from the beginning of the approach instead of crabbing into the wind them changing to the low wing method on short final

  • Side slip. He would have dragged a wing. Just gotta crab then kick it out last minute.

  • This falls into the "what were they thinking!?" category.

  • that woulda been a disaster if he landed, tarmac looked wet to me too

  • he aborted because he had the slicks

  • Landing with crosswind is very difficult.

the pilot take a good decision to overshot.

  • you've gotta hate cross winds...

ksocean- he wasn't drunk, and yes there were some winds, all pilots land like that with crosswinds -_-

  • What do you expect from TAP Airlines aka Take A Parachute! Hold on to your nuts!

  • haha

  • now arriving at gate 8, gate 9, gate 10, 11...

  • LMAO! Too funny! (Either that, or with his eyes closed, the instructor says, "Okay, now open your eyes and recover."

  • it almost sounded like you could hear the screams from onboard the plane for a sec there

  • looks like he held a foward slip for way too long and wan unable to make the transition. Where was the rest of the crew?!

  • Forward slip? Yeah, you sound like an expert....not!

This is actually a classical example of pilot induced occillations or overcontrolling the plane to the extent that a go-around is unavoidable.

  • it's not call a foward slip, a foward slip is not use for cross wind landing it's for lossing alt. Quickly the corect trem is crabbing ito the wind during high cross wind situations and trasition to low wing metode

  • Muito bom

  • WTH? Was he drunk, or was there excessive wind shear?

  • Thank God he aborted that landing. I am so glad I was not a passenger...lol

  • Everyone on board disembarked on their knees!!! All passengers that is who didn't have a heart condition...they remained on board!!!

  • Oh farrrrk!

  • who ordered these side winds ?

  • Looks to me like he did iniciate a go around when that wing dipped. If you notice, he then climbed up just a little bit and then afew seconds later the engines finally spooled up. Jet engines don't just get power when you go full throttle, they have to spool up and it can take about 3-5 seconds. If you count, its about that amount of time before you hear the engine after the wing dipped.

  • im a first officer myself and that attempted landing is simply non pardonable. The conditions were clearly appaling however

  • He the pilot train for Aeroflot?

  • some Pilot was a little "Mai Tai-Mai Tai" on that landing....jesus.

  • OMG I HAVE A Phobia of flying, if i was on that plane, i would have killed myself.

  • I'll bet there wasn't one unused barf bag after that one.

  • i heard the passengers were being rowdy so the pilot decided to toss them up a bit before landing!

  • that is scaryyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Ngaah! I do believe that's a fresh poop in my drawers.

  • I think that guy is a pilot for Delta.

  • I don't know what you assholes are laughing about...dipshits.

  • Humans dont belong in the air.

  • You are ever so right, earthling, that's why we try to keep you out of it. However, you tend not to heed our warnings... soon, it won't only be the Bermuda Triangle... you'll see... you'll see...

  • Holy shiiiittt!!!

  • holy shit! that runway looks really slippery!

  • If that rightside wheel had of touched down which it almost did that planed proberly would have crashed and rolled down the runway. very lucky

  • i have a friend a pilot i sent him this and like you said if he did land on rightside you wouldn't of properly crash he would of definitly crash.

  • i bet the passengers were screaming and crying their asses off in dat type of landing

  • I just had to laugh.

  • haha...i wonder how the passengers felt

  • I need a weewee and a poo now

  • That's amazing, he waited too long with the abort.

  • GOD SAVE THE ALL PiLOTS!!,(passengers too)

  • Yes, that landing should have been aborted well before getting into those tipsy maneuvers. Those pilots are under so much pressure though to make their deadlines and save fuel. I'm glad I wasn't a passenger on that flight.

  • does the alternate airport closed?

  • this is hardcore! omg imagine sitting in that plane...

  • A pantfull of poo in the cockpit after that, I presume..

  • Even though he did nearly crash and it was the pilots fault for not aborting earlier he still did an excellent job of aborting it when he decided to!

  • how long before you actually get the hint of initiating m/a? i would have socked the guy a few if he actually landed later.
