I love Mercedes, but I really think Volvo has always had the true passion for safety. Love the old 280sel, 240 and 300D's!! Mercedes and Volvo have to be the most beautiful cars built, with safety in mind.
I love how Chevrolet made it such a big deal that they had OnStar that called for help when you were in an accident, and Mercedes had that technology nearly 15 years earlier XD
this is where the japanese got smarter... yeah honda is good, but its only because of benz.. it is easier to copy than to think for yourself.. once you copy something, you can make it better than the orginal...honda might surpass benz, but then somebody like " KIA " might surpass honda... just food for thought.
But when it comes down to the BEST cars ever made, it IS the 1970 to early 1990s benzes.. they will NEVER be surpassed by any car because quality just gets shittier and shittier.

@CBass2016 well seeing as most taxi companies in major cities of japan use Mercedes' for their fleet, rather then their own Japanese brands, i think the quality, reliability, and safety competition is pretty clear.

the only reason honda is popular is because of 17-25 year olds who have no money to buy a real car so all they can go buy is the time they lost their car virginity.

They were the first to offer it as standard to the S-class and to their truck range.The US versions were a combination of hydraulic and electronics during 1971.
General Motors came up with ‘Trackmaster’. This was a rear wheel-only ABS system and was offered as an option on Cadillac cars. Ford had the "Zodiac". However, the system was expensive to manufacture and proved unreliable. The best one out at the time was the 1971 Chrysler Imperial. The Bendix Corporation had teamed up with Chrysler to introduce a computerised three-channel system, with four-sensor, all-wheel ABS – they called it ‘Sure Brake’. I LOVE this commercial. It shows how far we have come in terms of automotive safety. Today, we can have head on crashes at 40MPH and practically walk away without a scratch on us. That is remarkable. That kind of crash in the 60s would have almost certainly proved deadly.
I am not sure but was it not Oldsmobile with the first with anti lock in the early 70s. If not Olds it was a GM but I am not sure if it was offered to the public. I think GM also developed air bags in the 70s but I know for sure they were not offered for quite a while later. I don't see the point in developing something if they are not going to sell it. What, they wait yrs for another company to perfect it and put it on their cars. Way to go GM, thats about par for the course.
however,... I have a 2000 W210, but the emergency call function never works... humm... donno why, telephone function also doesn't works. Are those calling equipments optional? and if the W210 doesn't has calling system installed it still has calling botton installed?

Chrysler along with the Bendix Corporation released the first all wheel automotive ABS system called Sure Brake" on the 1971 Imperial while GM introduced the "Trackmaster" rear-wheel (only) ABS on their Rear-wheel drive Cadillac models in 1971. In the same year, Nissan offered EAL (Electro Anti-lock System) as an option on the Nissan President. So Mercedes Benz saying they pioneered ABS in 1978 is no Invention.
I got a 2005 MB CLK320, worked my butt off for the car, and it has been worth it ever since! I'm gonna keep it forever, the stuff that mercedes does is impeccable. My doors close like a bank vault, and the handling of my car is amazing, especially in the rain with my RWD.

I LOVE this commercial. It shows how far we have come in terms of automotive safety. Today, we can have head on crashes at 40MPH and practically walk away without a scratch on us. That is remarkable. That kind of crash in the 60s would have almost certainly proved deadly.

I am not sure but was it not Oldsmobile with the first with anti lock in the early 70s. If not Olds it was a GM but I am not sure if it was offered to the public. I think GM also developed air bags in the 70s but I know for sure they were not offered for quite a while later. I don't see the point in developing something if they are not going to sell it. What, they wait yrs for another company to perfect it and put it on their cars. Way to go GM, thats about par for the course.

mercedes will always be on top of bmw , audi etc ! hell bmw is going down , audi is copying bmw style from 2000-2010 and people whant that not the 2011 bmw....
and merc's they had they're had good thinking with the 2000-2008 models but the new one are just the old ones just 100x BETTER !

@musikstefan BMW isn't going down; check out their stocks. Not to mention they are still selling more 3 series than Audi and Merc sell their C classes and A4s combined. Also, Audi wins the interior quality contest hands down. BMW has seriously downgraded their interiors as has mercedes with the newest renditions of their vehicles while Audi has only improved theirs. And idk where you get this Audi is copying BMW nonsense. It's hard to say one is better. Each company has its own unique dynamic

WTF!? Anti-lock braking systems were first developed for aircraft use in 1929 &
Chrysler along with the Bendix Corporation released the first all wheel automotive ABS system called Sure Brake" on the 1971 Imperial while GM introduced the "Trackmaster" rear-wheel (only) ABS on their Rear-wheel drive Cadillac models in 1971. In the same year, Nissan offered EAL (Electro Anti-lock System) as an option on the Nissan President. So Mercedes Benz saying they pioneered ABS in 1978 is no Invention.

I got a 2005 MB CLK320, worked my butt off for the car, and it has been worth it ever since! I'm gonna keep it forever, the stuff that mercedes does is impeccable. My doors close like a bank vault, and the handling of my car is amazing, especially in the rain with my RWD.

@kikddabottle I'm so thankful to mercedes cuz a friend of mine had an accident, he was in a mercedes c 220 and he survived, the other man was in a mazda 6...and he died. I think mercedes is the best car brand cuz it doesn't launch a car without being sure its safe, confortable and beautiful.

@kikddabottle : I have to tell you that many people died because the airbag in the Mercedes didnt deploy, ex: the kid of a rich man took his cabrio mercedes on a ride, crashed into a tree and airbag didnt deploy, he died....and his father sued Mercedes and why does Mercedes show the airbag in their own commercial?? because they didnt invent it and more, Chrylser was the first car to make airbag standrad safety equipment in 1988, no one else

@legioner9 I thought Chrysler removed their's from the market for refinement after a few years? Also, was it the sensor that failed in the (insert year and model here) Mercedes-Benz? If so, common problem and I'm sure that would of triggered a serious recall. They really can't do electrics well. I just know myself and many others have been saved by the SRS system in a Mercedes-Benz. Chrysler also invented ABS but it also needed revision*

mercedes are worthless in dealerships, my uncle tried to trade in a 1997 mercedes dunno wat model and it was worth 500 bucks and the mercedes had no accidents nor was it ever damaged on the inside or outside and he was trading it in for a audi q5 in a audi dealership.

@Musicislife4000 Mercedes Benz was the first to release the "second-generation" anti-lock braking system in 1978 using a digital control unit from Bosch but Bosch (by the way) does not only supply such components to Mercedes Benz they also supply components to other manufactures & not just automotive. as a matter of fact, If Mercedes & all the other automotive manufactures go belly up I assure you Bosch will be the last to go.

All German car brands are friends under the table. Remember that even though they are competitions, they all come from the same nation and help each other in tough times. Just like in the US, GMC, Chrystler and Ford are competitions but the chiefs each brand went to Obama in one car.
