Between this (elucy dot org) and all the other genus and species that trace out our past, it's very much a lock as a fact. Once you start looking at the genes of both H. sap and the other great apes and how they relate, all reasonable doubt is removed. You might correctly debate afarensis as a direct ancestor, but it is part of our ancient family of man. An ape, like yourself.
