This is one of my favorite gospel rap songs. I didn't even like gospel rap until after I found out how talented they were and how much knowledge they teach. I learned more about atonement and substitution in this song than I heard my 24 years in church background. I never understood until I heard this song and then later other gospel rap songs.

Why did you have to shed blood? Life for life - human sacrifice and the age-old tradition of scapegoating. Place all the blame on an animal (usually a goat) and then kill it and everything is okay. Same theory as a wickerman, sorry did you think human sacrifice was a modern thing?

Humans always had this intuition that they ought to atone to the divine.  The Bible attests that God wrote his law on our hearts, which is why humans care about right/wrong, and have a predisposition to believe in something greater than themselves.

@TazHall The fact that “the bible attests” that anything is written on our hearts is testament to the fact that the people who wrote the Bible incorrectly believed that the human heart was the center of thought and emotion, rather than a big lump of muscle pushing blood around our body. The same flawed thinkers proposed that you can wash yourself clean in the blood of the innocent - repellent and clearly not caring about right/wrong.

@blaublahblah The Bible treats the "spiritual" heart and mind as interlinked and equally important. It is based on the belief that you are more than a meat puppet that you have a soul. Your soul is what makes you alive. If it leaves, your body is dead. Basic. Try to get past the face value and think a little deeper about it. They were not just talking about the muscle in your chest.
