The early MGM shorts weren't too bad, but as the series got older there was more lame sermonizing and morality play mentality instead of humor for humor's sake.
@OurGangFan - Good point! But olddude521's comments were spot on. I'd usually laugh at the Hal Roach films (though they could also get maudlin at times), but when MGM took over - LHM! I got so depressed (as a child!) because I couldn't measure up to the morals they were preaching.
Thank you for making this. I really like the MGM episodes myself. I don't see why some people think they were bad. I think they're really funny too. Especially Froggy. Love that goofy voice of his. :)
