skipping along the white sands of whatever tropical island, doing the Samba with my island man, drinking a mojito (no sugar, please), frolicking in the waves,
eating fresh fish and banana by moonlight....going back to my hut on the beach...
sigh... Well what you reading this for START PACKING YOU CAN COME TOO!!
yea, this song makes me smile and do a little samba...lol...OMG!!! before I go to work...Well I say it's better than coffee or those red blue brown white or yellow pills!!!!lol!!!! YOU WILL BE SATISFIED!! TAKE A RIDE!!!!! BIRD BEAUTY OF THE SKKKKYYYY!!!!!
Again it's Johnniewalker to the rescue - after listening to Songs in the Key, I had to listen to this which I remember in reading the liner notes to Sergio Mendes and his Portugeuse lyrics which Stevie appreciated and 'carnaval' being mentioned. I used to feel SO GOOD when I played this song.
Reminds me of my summers in Philadelphia. Sundays in Fairmount Park..... Georgia's Hill, Belmont Plateau, West and East River Drives, & the Ben Franklin Parkway. Cool Sisters, Fly cars, Sporty Brothers, a Sunday gathering every weekend. And there was WDAS-FM radio !
I discovered this song about 6 months ago, and I helplessly OCD'd on it everyday since. Every arrangement of this song is ethereal perfection and the background vocals can melt stones....Makes me really sad that you can't have this kind of effect with today's music.
Whoever you are, I could hug you! My thoughts exactly.. I discovered it about five years ago- I'm still paralyzed -pure dope as only Stevie can render... wonderful Sergio Mendes, taught Stevie the Portuguese.... Stevie's songs keep swelling to almost the breaking point until my mind is gone.... how wonderful! Go back and check out "Superwoman" as a suggestion.... peace profound.
Only quality music like this can blindly and delightfully bring out the love in people.
That's why he's the only Artist thus far that can make me appreciate music on an array of levels even outside of my earthly grasp and life in general.
It's lovely to know that there are others that share that same appreciation. It's kind of a life statement lol Hugs to you!
@sitarnut Oh and thanx for the heads up on "Superwomen", That's actually another oneof my favorites with the continuation going into "Last Winter". Can't say it enough, truly gorgeous music, just genius
@queenray1 Seems that your request has been waiting for one year, right?
Here is the portuguese part from Stevie Wonder's Bird of Beauty. Poetic context might be diferent, though:
It's ok, you should rest your mind. It doesn't matter what's gonna happen from now on. Go and sing the joy that has arrived so suddenly. With your heart happy like this, you're only gonna sing carnival. Lyrics by Sérgio Mendes.
Peace!!! I say thank God for older brothers and sisters...lol... I was in pampers probably popping my rattle on the ground shaking my little hips in the pamper!!! lol...I can definetely hear Syreeta..her voice is distinct mellefluous melodius...LOVE HER!!!!!!! LOVE STEVIE!!!!.....Peace!!!

Don't know about sipping a pina colado in Jamiaca, I loved listening to this in a small town called Arbroath nestling on the north east coast of scotland sipping the local teeth-rotting Irn bru drink as a 9 year old!
Excellent piece of music! Lyrics fab, Stevie the 9th wonder of the World. I feel like doing the Samba and I'm at work! Stevie, please stay with us....we need your genius now more than ever! That's me up above, still sitting on the beach! LOL
Sitting on the white beach in Negril, Jamaica....sipping on a pina colado with a fine Jamaican man sitting by my side - looking out at the blue sparkling water, looking a the yachts and the beautiful setting sun.....as if....THANKS FOR THE MENTAL VACATION STEVIE
This song is soooooooooooooo ahead of its time. But now you know it exists. Now you can get it. Oh and by the way, this song if my memory serves me correct, was really popular during the 1970's. But you know some songs, for what ever reason they just become forgotten. More than likely because Stevie Wonder has made sooooo many hits. So its easy to see why some might fall through the cracks. Of our mind. Kinda like out of sight out of mind. I can't recall hearing this song much after the '70s.
Yep, I know for a fact this was popular because in 2007, he performed some of it during the middle of a stretch of "Ribbon In The Sky" (He would perform a 15 minute version and would mix other songs in the middle) and as soon as he started singing the opening lyrics, the crowd gave a big pop because they were familiar with the song.
Hey, would you or anyone else be able to post the full Portuguese lyrics? I used to have the cd, but not anymore. I can't find the full set of lyrics to the portuguese lyrics anywhere. Somebody help a sista out!
This set of lyrics is also missing half the third stanza, which is the problem that I've been encountering with online searches. I've since figured it out and verified it with a Brazilian friend. Thanks!

This song is just one of many of Stevie's GREAT GREAT musical creations.
What I think this song is about is Stevie encouraging us to see the world, i.e get off our asses and travel.
U don't need 2 do drugs 2 take a trip.
Furthermore the 'bird of beauty in the sky' is most obviously a plane.
He also sings in portuguese as he had travelled to Brazil a few times prior to making FFF.
Lte's heed his words and take a vacation somewhere warm and try to learn something new of the world!

Yes, this song is an ANTI-drug song. Ibeliece it was made after Stevie had a car accident (in which he was the passenger), he was in a coma for a while, and it resulted in him losing his sense of smell. After the accident, he had a different outlook on life and taking drugs. Thus the lyrics:

Your comment is the most Logical that I've taken the time to read especially when a cousin of mine was one of his nurses during that time.
Some folks fail to remember that the "Bird Of Beauty" is a Dove which is supposed to represent Peace.
How Stevie still has society Picking Their Brains trying to decipher what he means may have been made to be thought provoking anyway.
Wow!! A man who can't see, makes the world Wonder. I enjoyed your comment, "Thanks".
