Just think if Bob didnt see the guy with the Metallica shirt in the desert..... we wouldnt have The Black album, Metallicas monumental step forward in the music industry!!!! \m/ forever)
Wish mettallica would go back to this or the old speed metal. This is the last 'good' album these guys made. Each album after I have had very high hopes, but listened a few times and sold the album. Even the last effort to me was just OK, with a few decent songs and the rest just junk. Haven't listened to any mettalica post black album for a long time.
I think that Jason's ORIGINAL opening to "Misery" could've been a song ITSELF! Cliff did it on the first album...why not give Jason a shot at it, in a more clean and less distorted way than Cliff did. BTW, I'm not knocking Cliff for his song either.
@Pritz78 I wonder what could Jason do now if he were in Metallica. I mean, with this "new" vision of allowing all the band members to compose and write songs. The Echobrain thing was just ok. They had one or two interesting songs. After that, I just saw him at Rockstar: Supernova or INXS, I don't remember which one, after that i've never saw him again.
Anyway, I think that Trujillo is the most accurate bassist for Metallica now, I just can't imagine Jason playing the Death Magnetic songs.
@LeaArg12 if u wonder what jason could compose for metallica,i suggest u listen to flotsam n jetsam's album doomsday for the deciever.he wrote most of the tracks on that album, listen to that n imagine if metallica did heavy songs like it.i gotta admit though, newsted did pretty good for himself after leaving metallica.i mean ozzy, voivod, its even been said hes working on a project wit tony from black sabbath n nicko from iron maiden.
@Pritz78 most ppl dont know that jason originally wanted my friend of misery to be an instrumental like the ones on metallicas first four albums.but his idea was disregarded,so the black album was the first to not have an instrumental.
Jason Newsted was left traumatized by the rest of the band jajaja, but he said a wise thing, you should be open to new things, new styles, that's what made the beatles, hendrix, zep, sabbath, maiden and many other bands so great, the ability to innovate and still keep it "simple", but... he didn't had a chance to persuade the band with that tought... ... umm whatever, anyway we got this great album :P
I've uploaded it to the MegaVideo server cause YouTube blocked it (something about copyrights or whatever). You can find the link by clicking "More Info". And view it clicking the red "Play" button, it will open an advertising window, just close it and click the "Play" button, which is green now, and watch the video. If you can't watch it, let me know.
Great song "The Four Horsemen". They've played here in Spain and I almost pee on my pants 'cause of it =P But I think that the beer had a lot to do with that too... =P

@LeaArg12 you could argue he meant it as in "bass guitar" wich is a valid term since their so similar, and cliff is in fact very overrated
