Fine art is - art for a reason that isn't in the box! Whitread is one of my favourite artits- it is unfair for anyone to comment on conceptual art without realising that their is a meaning behind it all- and to understand the art you need to find out the concept!
It is really great that people who don't follow the arts and don't recognize this as art, are viewing and commenting. Youtube really let's one know what's "out there". The one thing that strikes me is that someone can be so fascinated with the idea of concretizing empty space. I like the idea, too, but, for me it isn't so enthralling that I would spend years on it. One would have to have followed her chronology to see small developments. But I'm not so engaged in her ideas that I would. VG
if you've spent any time looking at what artists have been doing for at least a century, you will recognize it as art. if you haven't, you may not--but then, if you haven't spent any time looking at what artists have been doing for at least a century, what would give you the right to say it's NOT art?
When I was in Paris someone told me that there were artistic structures that were placed around Paris randomly...roll of a dice. I don't know if its true. But I like the idea. I t wouldn't happen in London because our emminent architectural consultant Prince Charles would put his oar in

it is not very imaginative art.

@kukunu She makes negative space just as important as the objects that create that space. I think that's imagitive.

How on earth is this not art? Explain bowlingballout. It's easy to blurt out. Even more ridiculous with your analergy to alcoholism.

It's art. I may not "get" it, but it's art. It may or may not be good art, but it's art...

It's art. But she seems to like a lot of the basic shapes, squares and circles.

It's art as much as alcoholism is a disease... it's not.
But I doff my cap to those clever enough to dupe the public into funding such atrocities in the first place.

Personally I reject dadaism. There has to be some sweat involved or it isn't art in my book.
I'm sort of a snob that way. :)

Yes it is.
