I love this tune. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. Great down beat. Good to see David and the guys still playing in some form or the other. But this is classic Starwbs.
@hieronomy you do have a point Deep Cuts was a great LP/ CD I saw the tour. They started that gig with Cut like a Diamond.I think this band was amung the best of the Brit folk prog bands, up there with Tull and Ferport Convenchen. There was alot of great bands in the 70s
The Strawbs have been one of my fave band from all the way back to 76.i've seen them meny times.I remember that EL MO gig to no Lambert but John Ford was there with Dave they do like to come to Toronto Strawbs 4ever!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the post.... I have all the Strawbs vinyls... safely stowed away... I haven't had a turntabe for a long while. A sound engineer friend of mine is gonna set me up to transfer my vinyls (lots O' great music from the past never made it to CDs.)

saw these guys in the grooviest nite club in Atlanta, "Richards" ..circa 1974 ..place prob only held 3 or 4 hundred....played foosball w\ two of them before the show in the game room there ! Their music blew us away !..I was in a cover band (still am) & we tried to do "It's Just Love" back then .. wow .. great to see this video
The only problem I have with Dave Cousins is his voice. He has an uncanny resemblance to that of Benny Hill. Check out 'Ernie the fastest milkman in the West' !
Nice one mate. I had the honour of propping up the bar with him and Blue Weaver a few years ago after a gig. A real gentleman is Dave Cousins - not to mention a fantastic songwriter.
This is the only rollocking cowboy song I ever cared for, and its not even in the genre. Reminds me of the garage band I was in called Gabriel Oak when I was a mere slip of a girl in the mid-70s. We had one concert outside of our garage. It's amazing the music ignored by main stream sources. It's like finding a gem under a cabbage leaf.
Frickkin' Great! Not a lip-sync. Where did this originate from??? Hero and Heroine is one of my all-time favs in the so-called "prog-rock" category and this video represents that that category did, in fact, have immense rockin' potential beyond just fantastic composition and instrumentation. I would love to have an entire Strawbs concert if one exists on DVD.
I believe I saw these guys only once, after the release of Hero and Heroine, but they were mesmerizing. There was not a sound while Dave was singing Hanging in the Gallery, and tears flowed when the song was finished. It remains one of the best shows I've ever seen.
been seeing them since 74 and they never dissapoint. ive got about 25 stubs. they were great at bb kings in nyc june 2008,and the capitol theatre in n.j. in 74 or was it 75 hmmn
Fantastic--thanks for posting two Strawbs videos! yeoldetoade pointed out the two typos in the credits some time ago, but they haven't been corrected...so again, it's *Chas* Cronk and Rod *Coombes*. Cheers!
I see from the video, they are using two Mellotrons....poor roadies, they are bloody heavy! I used one Tron in my band and was hapy to change the settings as required.
The best version of this song was done by a local band in the mid 1970's by the name of Harlequin. They played NY in places like the Rising Sun in Yonkers, the Glen Island Casino in New Rochelle and places on Long Island. When I saw The Strawbs, I was a little disappointed since the Harlequin version was so much better. It was like listening to Rat Race Choir do Led Zep better than Zep. They also did a fantastic version of The Musical Box by Genesis. Does anyone know what happened to Harlequin?
I saw them Nov. 6, 1975 in St. Louis MO. Ticket was $6.00. I still have the ticket stubs! One of the many great shows from that time! Always small venues!
This does bring back very good memories. I saw Strawbs 3 times, each time was fantastic. Yes, they were very progressive. At the time we saw them, my friends and I were into Gentle Giant, Yes, Renaissance, Genesis (with Peter), Manfred Mann, and of course King Crimson. These bands kicked ass then and their music is timeless now.
I have this dream that I could put together a trip to the London olympics and see a bunch of my classic rock favorites while I was there. Don't forget Procol Harum.
I've been a fan ever since I found an abandoned 8-track in my dorm 1978. This is the first I ever heard of Strawbs. Heros.. is my favorite of all their albums... I admit I am a progger and this album is very 70's progressive. I saw most the original lineup 2005 at Nearfest and much of it was Heros and Heorines... great concert
I always thought this album was a concept story line about a relationship gone bad. No matter what it was one of the Strawb's finest achievements! Great Video!!
Have you ever seen a relationship between heroin and a human that has "gone good"? In any event, David Cousins stated back in the '70's that the song is definitely a metophor for drug addiction.
this is more than one can ask, thank you!!!
