I will never get how people can dislike those videos... It's typically Avett Brothers.. nothing to dislike about it! :) .. if you don't like them, don't watch it.
Fine version, but Donovan came to this song rather late. It was written as noted below by Texan Jane Bowers in 1955 and initially recorded by Tex Ritter. It was popularized by the Kingston Trio in 1959 on their Grammy-winning album "At Large," which also sold a million copies. Donovan recorded it around 1966.
@CompVid101 - and BTW, if indeed this vid is from Newport RI- the Kingstons' version was one of the highlights of their featured performance at the first Newport Folk Festival in 1959.
glorious! I love my Avett boys so much, they're such a humble and amazing influence in a world where such influences, for the most part, are not present.
I would love to hear the Avett Brothers sing Cotton Fields by CCR. It would be amazing to hear them harmonizing through out most of the song then have it kind of slow down in one part with just Scott or Seth singing, then pick back back up with both of them singing.
So cool to hear Seth cover Donovan. Most people only know the big hippy-dippy hits, but Donovan has an amazing back catalog with many fantastic songs. Great song selection!

Come to think of it, an Avett Brothers version of "Someday Never Comes" as well would probably make me the happiest person alive.
