  • he is just beautiful!

  • one of seth's more underrated crackerfarm vids imho

  • 880? 180.

  • Fine version, but Donovan came to this song rather late. It was written as noted below by Texan Jane Bowers in 1955 and initially recorded by Tex Ritter. It was popularized by the Kingston Trio in 1959 on their Grammy-winning album "At Large," which also sold a million copies. Donovan recorded it around 1966.

  • @CompVid101 - and BTW, if indeed this vid is from Newport RI- the Kingstons' version was one of the highlights of their featured performance at the first Newport Folk Festival in 1959.

  • Why doesn't Scott ever sing stuff? :/

  • Texas owes her gratittude to the Carolina boys that died that day. This Texas boy owes my gratittude to this Carolilna boy for this song. Gracias.

  • im from San Antonio thank you so much Seth!

  • i've heard the johnny cash version of this song...this is great too

  • wooooooooooow

  • Wonderful. My ears are bleeding from the amount of pure bliss produced by Seth's voice.

  • isnt this a jane bowers song that was covered by dovovan?

  • Beautiful guitar.

  • Looks like this was shot @ Newport Folk Fest? (Aug 1, 2010) Can anyone confirm?

  • like, seth + donovan? is this real life? <3

  • glorious! I love my Avett boys so much, they're such a humble and amazing influence in a world where such influences, for the most part, are not present.

  • Yes, great song and a lovely version - I remember Donovan's original well.

  • I would love to hear the Avett Brothers sing Cotton Fields by CCR. It would be amazing to hear them harmonizing through out most of the song then have it kind of slow down in one part with just Scott or Seth singing, then pick back back up with both of them singing.

  • @smooshdaboosh MUCH agreed.

  • @smooshdaboosh

Come to think of it, an Avett Brothers version of "Someday Never Comes" as well would probably make me the happiest person alive.

  • So cool to hear Seth cover Donovan. Most people only know the big hippy-dippy hits, but Donovan has an amazing back catalog with many fantastic songs. Great song selection!

  • This mister has the coolest guitars (Skull, Oak Leaves and Acorn, now a Moth). Who's makin them do you suppose?

  • @Copper3024 The skull and moth ones were made by Jordan McConnell, of the Duhks.

  • so could this be a hint of coming to Texas sometime soon?!?! haha...Texas fans let's hope so!

  • Putting up with the wind makes watching this more than worth it.

  • Is this new? Had the beard returned? Where was this filmed (Texas I assume)?

  • @MrStrusz guessing Newport in August?

  • @MrStrusz i doubt because he got a haircut just recently
