Fine version, but Donovan came to this song rather late. It was written as noted below by Texan Jane Bowers in 1955 and initially recorded by Tex Ritter. It was popularized by the Kingston Trio in 1959 on their Grammy-winning album "At Large," which also sold a million copies. Donovan recorded it around 1966.

I would love to hear the Avett Brothers sing Cotton Fields by CCR. It would be amazing to hear them harmonizing through out most of the song then have it kind of slow down in one part with just Scott or Seth singing, then pick back back up with both of them singing.
