There are 2 Tomato clowns in the tank. And all the fish are doing well. The watermelon Mushrooms are about 3 times the size they were in this video and some of the zoanthids have been propagated.
No matter how many filters you have on your setup they will not remove the excess organic material that a skimmer will. It will keep your water quality at a high level which a lot of corals, fish , and inverts require.
In traditional mechanical filters, the uneaten food, waste, etc. are trapped, but are still left in contact with the water so it is still polluting your water although you believe it is in the filter and contained.
He is doing just fine. I am thinking that by you asking that maybe you have not had such good luck with yours. I seed my tank every 2-3 months with copepods. It really makes a difference in how well a mandarin does. You also must have a lot of live rock in order for the pods to reproduce and hide. I also have a lot of mysid shrimp running around in my tank. If you need any help with your mandarin or anything else with your tank please drop me a line. I will be glad to help you out.

i don't think it would hurt to add some more fish like clownfish or things that arn't aggresive so your mandarin and firefish are ok

The plain answer is YES,
No matter how many filters you have on your setup they will not remove the excess organic material that a skimmer will. It will keep your water quality at a high level which a lot of corals, fish , and inverts require.
In traditional mechanical filters, the uneaten food, waste, etc. are trapped, but are still left in contact with the water so it is still polluting your water although you believe it is in the filter and contained.
