@CleverNameHere81 A lot like an electric guitar really! Electric guitars don't need to be picked, especially if the action is low. Tapping on the neck makes a sound. This works the same way. The main differences are that it has two different preamps, so it can had different tones for different strings. Also it doesn't make any noise on it's open strings. It requires a complete circuit by having a string touch a fret, so can strum chords if you want to and it only makes sound on notes you press.

@JohnnyStreets Actually it uses a very sensitive noise gate system that can be turned off to let all the strings vibrate if you want to do that.
