I know what you mean. You numb your pain so you don't have to deal with it, so you don't have make your family suffer with you. If they don't know, then you can go on living for them. It gives you comfort to know that at least your family isn't suffering with you. Live together, suffer alone. It's better that way. Their ignorance is bliss, for you and them. That way you don't have to talk about your pain and they don't have to live with the knowledge that they can't help you.

I used to never cry or anything, because I hated being asked what's wrong. I locked myself up, became a "clam". I didn't want anyone to worry about me or anything. So to put on a brave face everyday to hide everything after awhile, becomes everything you know.
