Okay, a reliable source says it's most likely a "scud cloud from the gust front". So I guess it's not an actual funnel cloud. Nevertheless, it was a pretty awesome formation to see up-close.
Also, I know nothing of meteorology but I googled outflow finger and saw nothing that resembled this thing. Not sure, but I'd be more inclined to say this was a legit funnel cloud than an outflow finger. Then again, maybe I'm biased because if it was an actual funnel cloud it makes my story that much better. All I know for sure is that I definitely thought I was going to be caught in the middle of a tornado yesterday, haha.
I was helping my friends move out of their place yesterday (deep south east edmonton) when this thing started forming right near us. It was terrifying! The sky turned a sickly mottled green and purple like I have never seen. And then seeing this thing coming down swirling overhead was scary to say the least. It never touched down and eventually dispersed but was shortly followed by some extremely large hail and one of the most torrential downpours I've ever seen!
Really spectacular funnel cloud !

This was my grad night and I was unaware of it at the time.

Just a finger, nothing to get excited about.
