I used to think this was actually pretty sweet, then I went and first-time played the original Starcraft in preparation for the release of Starcraft 2. No nostalgiavision here, the atmosphere of the Protoss in SC2 doesn't even hold a candle to the original's..

As a protoss player this music actually ruins the game for me. It is so badly composed.

Its just lots of ambient sounds put together in the aim of creating something alienesque. But there seems to be no main theme or development of melody or harmony. There is actually nothing good I can say about it apart from that it is well produced. It might make good film music if it were actually accompanying on screen action in a precise way, however since it is a video game this is not possible.

I agree. The Starcraft 1 Protoss music, nostalgia apart, told a story. You could imagine Protoss society with it, it's castes, it's desperate fight for survival. You could also feel the wisdom of a race which is tainted by the errors of the past (Aeon of Strife) and the rise of a hero who would take it's place alongside Adun in the pantheon of the greatest Protoss heroes. You can also feel the pain of the loss of Aiur, and the exile to Shakuras...It truly tells a story.

When Lighthammer18 hears this music, it makes him want to play a ladder (ranked) match on StarCraft. However, when he proceeds to play the game, he gets rushed by the opposing Zerg player with a rush strategy known as the 6-pool. When this happens to Lighthammer18, he rages and quits the game.

Ultimately, this is a vicious cycle as he will eventualy hear this music again, play another ladder match, and rage quit. I hope this translation helps.
