I don't know how frida kahlo was. I don't know how people in Mexico were in that time. I haven't even watched this movie, but I get the impression that the romance and the dynamic of the relationship of this to characteres, even their individual personalities, were completely Americanized. They reflect stereotypical traits that would appeal to the actual audience, but wouldn't necessarily fit nor be loyal to the real situation.
