I met Elliot once in Pasadena at a guitar shop on Colorado Blvd that sold a few left handed guitars - I think 1987 or 88 and he was really nice, cool and very normal - he was just sitting there at the counter signed a few and there were only 2 people in the shop - shook his hand and thanked him & The Cars for contributing to my partial hearing loss - he laughed. His solo here is on target.
It was late 1981, cruising around in a friend's Trans Am with his stereo cranked up to 11 playing Touch And Go, and it was this song that drew me to The Cars. I am so glad Ric decided to give it another go. If it's possible, I'm sure Ben is smiling down. Very grateful for this upload!
Benjamin Orr was considered the sexy heartthrob of The Cars when he was still alive and in the band years ago. However, Greg Hawkes did a remarkable job filling in for him on bass here. Benjamin received the highest number of votes on The Cars Heartbeat City website. He got 22 votes. I voted for Elliot Easton and sure enough he an Ric Ocasek both tied at 15 votes. Drummer David Robinson got 8 votes and keyboardist Greg Hawkes only received 4.
I'll give this a thumbs up cuz it's a good song, but as one guy told me in another post... they didn't seem to be too into their gig, especially Ric Ocasek
I bet it's their way of a tribute to Ben doing the show like this. Can never replace him so why have someone outside fill-in ? If they can keep it up this way do it ! Sounds great !
Wow, how awesome a performance was that? They sound pretty damn good to me. Elliott is dead nuts on his guitar leads! All the negatives I've heard are a mystery to me after seeing some of these perfs on YouTube!
This is just so refreshing - and man - they sound like they fit perfectly in to 2011 - the music is timeless. It's just so damn good to see them up there!
I went to the hollywood palladium and spent an evening with the cars, and what an Incredible show. This group has some outstanding musicians. Ben would say "carry on". Also the new cd kicks ass. Hope to see them back in los angeles soon i'm there.
Thanks so much for putting this up! Excellent! This is the first time I can say I loved this song from this tour. I liked seeing Greg in front playing bass,it was a nice tribute to Ben for me:) And Elliot was great also:)
@Chrisedge Nice videos dude. I was at the first show in Seattle. Front row center stage. Our venue was small about 1700 and SRO venue only. It was awesome i was 8 feet from Ric and Elliott. I got killer photos over 100. But security was on anyone recording. Thanks for posting these. I am hoping by the end of this tour the whole show will be here. I see there are 5 from Seattle & you have 2 or 3 different ones. I really like about 5 of the new songs.
So f..king happy they are back, yes we wish Ben was here too..but the new c.d is incredible.

Finely crafted intricate songs rarely sound as great as this one.

My favorite Cars song of all time. I was afraid it would flop without Ben on bass, but I'll have to say that Greg handles the bass line quite well.

They did this song very well in Toronto last Friday.
Easily the biggest surprise of the night was when they played Up and Down.

The Cars need to hire a bass player, even if he's an unofficial member, sort of like Bon Jovi

Excellent video, great job on the quality! Man, can Elliot still play those lightning fast solos. I love watching him play.
Thanks again, I am going to see them this Friday in Toronto.

I'm still loving that syncopated verse 30 years later - timeless greatness before your eyes! Easton is flawless as ever.
