Race and skin color are two separate things. Approximately, 85% of Dominicans have dark skin, but that doesn't mean that Dominicans are Black. Black (with capital B) is a race, while black (in lowercase) is a color. Look at people from India, for example. Would you say they are Black just because they have dark skin?

Race and skin color are two separate things. Approximately, 85% of Dominicans have dark skin, but that doesn't mean that Dominicans are Black. Black (with capital B) is a race, while black (in lowercase) is a color. Look at people from India, for example. Would you say they are Black just because they have dark skin?

People now think that the proper thing to call a black is an African - American. That is simply not true. They should actually be called black and white people should be called white. African Americans were African hundreds of years ago but are not now. So should whites be called German American or English American? I don't think so because I don't say that the guy across the street is a German - American. And unless you actually know the person their ancestry could not even be African

But Dominicans are mostly mulato, black and white. Yet they choose to deny their African heritage and many of them make fun of blacks americans and black carribeans when they themselves are barely a shade lighter.

Dominicans in the U.S., as well as all people that come from Hispanic countries, are considered as "Hispanic", which is not black nor white. In some cases, like when you have a background check done, they don't have "Hispanic" as a race and make you check "White" instead, no matter how dark your skin is...

@TonyElTijuanero I'm not black. It's funny but a few years ago I worked retail with this Dominican guy here in New York who used to make fun of black people. He was light-skinned and had light eyes, but of course was obviously not white and was one of the lighter-skinned Dominicans. He had been helping this white lady and then forgot about her. The lady then asked me to help me locate him. I asked her to describe what he looked like. She told me "it was a nice black guy". Get over it.

@MrPa1310 There's nothing wrong with having a mixed heritage; the world appears to be moving towards a majority biracial population anyways, so you may be indicative of how the future will look on Earth. Personally, I don't think this is all good because a lot of the distinct racial characteristics of whites, blacks, even Asians may be vastly reduced, leaving less diversity. Now, as far looks, to me the nose might be the most "Hispanic" looking- but it's a photo, different from real life.
