hi Collette, i have a few advices for you:
1. Stay away from the Salafis (men with huge beards, and women with Burkas/Niqabs) they are the radicals of Islam.
2. Try to learn about Islam by reading books, not listening to people.
3. There's no such thing as a Muslim dress code, they are all made up (don't let anyone convince you otherwise), so just be comfortable.
4. Learn about Sufism.
