What a beautiful, thoughtful posting of the early career days of this exquisite woman. Loretta Young, forever beautiful, forever gracious, forever discreet, set a standard that lives on.
When she found she was pregnant by Clark Gable, and knew that if that fact ever came out both her career and his career were over, she made a thoughtful decision. To have her baby and raise her baby as her own daughter. She knew people would figure it out and by all accounts she didn't care. She later said good girls, married or not, have their babies; it's the bad girls that don't. She clearly felt her faith had gotten her through that challenge and making the right decision.
When I look with humility at these portraits I cannot help but mourn the degradation of imagery between then and now. When I look with apathy at contemporary portraits, I cannot help but feel that perhaps it is already dead and doesn't know it. Your collection is breathtaking, and your music does them justice. Thank you.
I was fortunate to sit and say the Holy Rosary with Loretta Young at the Chapel of Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, where she visited the sick and dying daily. After her visits she would lead a group in saying the full Rosary in the Chapel, and if a Priest was present, would ring the Sanctus Bells during the Consecration. After the Rosary, Loretta Young would lead the group in several prayers. These are wonderful memories. That Chapel is now named in her Honor at the Hospital.
Yeah' I could have been stranded on an island with Loretta Young. What a knockout! She always gets me with that shy way about her in those early depression era films. Especially A Man's Castle. And did you know her son Peter Lewis was part of that fab but fatal psychedelic rock group Moby Grape?
What a powerful light that lived inside this lovely woman* you could feel the sencerity and Love. Lorretta Young remained young for so many years): her inner beauty must have slowed down the hand of time, Yet she will never Die` for Angels always keep giving love and Eternal grace.

Wonderful story Richard. She loved her faith and she was a lady. Not many of those in Hollywood today.

Correct me if I'm wrong but her first big role was in Laugh, Clown, Laugh. She was exceptionally beautiful! <3
