A great man, and advocate for all moral atheists out there, a shame I never got to meet you, you will be remembered. and I'm sure will live on in the hearts of many
With Sir Ed's passing,an entire era has come to an end.The time when you could be famous and still put the wellbeing of others above and beyond your own needs.Everest was just one of Eds triumphs; he achieved much, much more in his life.
God bless you Ed,give my regards to Louise and Belinda.
Your life is an inspiration for millions. Your kindness and down to earth nature was gods greatest gift to you and to us, you will be dearly missed by all Kiwis, we thank you.
When you explain what it means to be a Kiwi, inevitably Sir Ed and Lord Rutherford enters the conversation. We climbed the highest mountain and split the atom, first. It is ingrained in the NZ psyche. The man said it best, 'Aim High! There is little virtue in easy victory'. Something NZers are expected to replicate. RIP Sir Ed.
In my relatively short life I have met a number of people like Hillary, and they all had two things in common. 1) They were all born before WWII 2) None of them thought they were any better than any other person, as when they did the exceptional things they did they believed they were "only doing their duty". Modern people have lost a sense of "duty" and while in many ways that's for the better, it probably means we will never see the likes of Sir Edmund again.
Yes. He is a true hero. We will miss him. I can remember him since the day I can remember and he always has been my hero. A true hero, a true kiwi and a true mate. RIP Sir Ed. You will be always remembered.
